Hey svl7 thank you so much for all your effort so far!
I bought myself a Y580 last week with no OS pre-installed, the BIOS version it was shipped with is 2.0.7.
I know someone already asked for a modified version of 2.0.7 a week ago, I just wanted to check if you found the time of doing a modified version or if you are still planning on doing so?
Thanks in advance!
Edit:
I flashed the "Lenovo_Y480_Y580_-_BIOS_V.206_[unlocked][no whitelist]" BIOS and my Intel Ultimate-N 6300 was working just fine.
Yet I sadly had big problems with the NVIDIA GPU:
- The NVIDIA driver and 3D programs kept crashing constantly
- Artifacts in 3D scenes
After flashing the modified BIOS I just loaded the setup defaults and didn't change anything.
Anyone else experiencing similar problems?
After reverting back to the stock Lenovo 2.0.7 (5DCN40WW) BIOS everything was working just fine again.
Same thing for me. My Y580 came with windows 7 and 2.0.6. I am using the unlocked one from here, but am getting really bad tearing and artifacting 3D games (Battlefield 3). I'm hoping for a 2.0.7 unlocked version or I will have to use the crappy WiFi that came with the laptop.

When I get home I will try putting my old drive with Windows 7 in and seeing if the same bios files will flash.

Hi everyone!
I have a Y580 that came with Windows 8 and the BIOS 5DCN90WW.
I tried flashing the unlocked BIOS from the post #155. Thank you for your work svl7 :-)
I tried with several configurations, but always got the same error when running the bat file to do a backup: Error 104: The two SPI flash devices do not have compatible command sets.
The flash devices found are exactly the same as the one indicated on the screenshot from the post #163.
I tried to execute the backup bat on several configurations:
1. The stock Windows 8
2. The stock Windows 8 after uninstall the antivirus
3. When starting Windows 8 in "Safe mode" (even though it is not called like this anymore) with a command prompt only
4. With Windows 7 x64 SP1
@En-TACT, did you already get this error on your system? If yes, how were you able to avoid it?
We're waiting to hear from svl7

As you've read through the forum, there are issues for those who have the Y580, WIN8-64b and cannot flash the modified BIOS, resulting in various errors... svl7 attempted to resolve this on my machine, to which I provided the BIOS dump (5DCN90WW). Still awaiting to hear from him.
Thanks, and thanks svl7

Hi,
I'm trying to install the bios from thread #155. I have a Y580 that came with windows 7, and now is running windows 8. I have the original modded bios from thread #1 installed currently.
I unblocked all files and ran as administrator and get this error:
------------------------------------------------------
C:\BIOS>FLASH.bat
*************************
To flash the BIOS press y, to abort press n or any other key.
Confirm with enter.
Flash? y

It might be that the windows 8 y580 bios is not compatible wit the windows 7 y580. There is an updated bios for which is version 5dcn40ww.exe. Would be great to get that un-whitelisted. The reason to get 5dcn40ww is that playing some 3D games I get crashes and this bios is supposed to fix some of the crashes in games.
P.S. The BACKUP.bat gets the same error, Error 104.
Any help would be appreciated.

Is there a way to bypass the "The version of rom file isn't newer than version of bios"? My Lenovo Y580 has bios v.207
Thanks

Just installed this on my Y580 running Windows 8 with no problems (from post #258). My Y580 came with Windows 7 originally and I was using the modded 2.06 firmware from the first post.
Thanks!
