  1. This is a stupid question but if I disable this how can I re-enable with no display if the egpu doesn't work for some reason?

You have igpu / HD3000 graphics. Look at it this way dgpu is just extra, igpu is primary card.

thanks I will give this a go - I noticed if I tried to cold boot the machine with the card plugged in it would do the normal POST checks (i.e. cycle num and key lock leds etc) and make noises but nothing would display - I tried connecting it as soon as the HP spash screen came up before windows even started booting but this did not achieve anything either.

You have to hot plug it as i mentioned in steps 2,3

  2. Any advice would be appreciated..Thanks

1.If you can disable in bios dgpu then restart - if not you have to buy diyegpu setup

2.press F8 to get to advanced startup options

3.power up egpu and connect expresscard

4.resume win,you should see your card in device manager

5.install drivers (try to find some unified drivers for mobility/desktop support,it will be better if you have bought nvidia card / or try with normal catalyst driver / make backup of you laptop before so you can easily restore back),after installation of driver you will be prompted to restart (after restart quickly pull out expresscard)

6.power off egpu then power on,repeat steps 2,3,4

  3. is it okay for me to use a lower PSU like 650W?

Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2

Yes ofc, when the manufacturer says that you need xxxW they mean with total system. You will be running only the card.

Your card has 250w power cosumption so you can use lower psu.Just check that psu has sufficent amperage on rails.

  4. Hey guys, I have a 4530s with a 2670qm cpu with intel hd 3000 and an expresscard 2.0 slot. I plugged in a 560 and everything works great but my link speed is stuck at 1.1opt instead of 1.2. Any ideas on forcing the full link speed?

Do you have PE4L, if you do then check in bios that your expresscard speed is set to 2.0. Then, did you halt Win with F8 then connected expresscard and booted to win?

Also check link speed when gaming or other intensive GPU activity.

  5. So i did what as above and had some interesting results But first...

    1) how do I disable the radeon in bios?

Upon boot you press F10 not esc. Than in system subsection you select 2nd row where your expresscard speed, sata, integrated peripherals are.

Down on the bottom you have tick box under switchable graphics, and just untick the box and save bios. I can't remember by hard i'am at work now.

I will update this post when i now exactly where it is located.

After saving bios you halt win (F8) plug pe4l resume win.I suppose you have valid nvidia driver installed before hand. When you get in win you will probably still have win on you laptop screen. You have to go to display properties and select screen number "2" external monitor if you have one.

Good luck, it should work, except if something is wrong with PE4l adapter.

  6. Guys,

Can anyone help me on my issue? I am really frustrated and don't know what I am doing wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have HP 4530s it's basically the same except screen size.

Express card slot is very fiddly of probook series, you have to insert it very swiftly or sometimes it can't be recognized.

So if you have dedicated graphics hd radeon you have to disable it in bios than halt windows with pressing F8 and than plug pe4l and resume win.

If you have only intel than only halt win with F8, plug pe4l than resume win it should work.

  7. 3dmark11 says the GTX660 is running as the primary video so you may be seeing x1 2.0 rather than x1.2Opt (x1 pci-e compression + internal LCD mode). Can confirm by running 3dmark06. If the result is < 10k then you're running the slower x1 2.0. Usually need to hotplug the eGPU after boot or set the PCI Reset jumper to do it for you to get the HD3000 as the primary and [email protected] running.

    Can see my Dell E6230 + GTX660 @ x1 2.0 and x1.2Opt results for performance differences.

    Ok will try, thanks.

  8. Thanks nando, i didn't had to use diy setup at all. I just disabled dgpu in bios, and hook up expresscard and it immediately shows picture on external monitor.

So i have HP 4530s with i5 2410m soon to be upgraded to i7 2630qm, and i also upgraded screen to FHD. Really awesome laptop.

My 3dmark11 score NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 video card benchmark result - Intel Core i5-2410M Processor,Hewlett-Packard 167C score: P5026 3DMarks

Farcry 3 is flying with fhd and ultra details at 35-55fps.

  9. Hi, i have some problems with my HP 4530s. I finally got all the parts, i have gtx660. My 4530s is with dgpu hd6490m, and i have booted diy setup, disabled dgpu, run compaction 32a,and chainloaded to win.

I installed the lastest drivers from Nvidia, and gtx660 doesn't have any errors but my intel hd3000 have code 43,and i can't get picture to my external lcd.

I have seen people run gtx card on my lap also with dgpu hd6490m.

If anybody have the steps neccesary to work.

    Thanks.

  10. I'm clueless now, guys. I want to know how to mod my ati legacy driver to add both ati iGPU and amd hd 6790. Please give me procedures to do that.

Sorry but again i have to tell you to try XtremeG driver that recently added legacy support. You have 12.10 and 12.6 modded for legacy.

  11. You don't have to disable it as it is the only card you have in system. The problem is that xpress 1100 is very old card. You need driver that will coexist with 1100 and hd6790. Xtreme g drivers doesn't have 1100 in support list, also as i can remember dna driver also don't. You can always try with xtreme g.

  12. Sure why not, you have nothing to loose, but create a restore point or as i do backup c-disk with acronis, so it's easier to restore if drivers don't work.

Worst thing it can happen is corrupted screen in win after installing the drivers. You can than boot in safe mode and use driver sweeper + uninstall in device manager then boot again and install drivers you had before.

Of course, if you can disable dgpu in bios, and run diy setup 1.x if you have it and do comapction/chain load to win.

  13. Well, looks like I'm stuck unitil either DNA open their website or they upload their drivers to online-source.net.

You can try and use xtreme G drivers 12.7 , backup before you try, or create restore point, sou you don't have to hassle if it don't work or screen is corrupted after boot.
