  1. Has anyone been able to get the exp gdc beast working on the lenovo z580? What about the ones with discreet graphics? Did you have to use setup 1.3 or was it working without it?

Theres a thread here about the z580 but it dosen't answer my questions well. I have a lenovo z580 with discreet gt630m. Will the exp gdc beast setup work with mpcie on my laptop? Will I need setup 1.3 or not? Thanks.

If your laptop has the 860m I would not even consider an eGPU. If you have the 765m the eGPU will be an improvement, but not what you are likely hoping for. The x16 slot is for the dGPU and it cannot be changed. You only have one mpci-e slot, so you can only do x1 2.0, and even that requires having no wifi card. You will need to use nando4's setup program to disable the dGPU for optimus to run since Clevo systems lack a BIOS option to disable the dGPU. With the performance hit of x1 there will be some games that run better on the 860m than if you were running an eGPU 980, although there would be some where the 980 does win significantly.

Even with the CPU upgrade, the CPU will still be a substantial bottleneck in many games. I personally would go for a new laptop, or maybe a desktop for games when at home. I have no idea what hayden55 is talking about when referencing a 980m.

Thanks for the heads up. But I guess I'll wait for a decent laptop then. Won't the CPU be able to let me play games on 1080p medium on 30fps even? What about at 720p? I was actually thinking of using this as a low end gaming system until i build a full desktop. Thanks

  3. Hi everyone. I have a laptop with a core 2 duo t7200 CPU along with 3GB of ram. I'm planning to go the egpu route with an exp gdc expresscard adapter along with a 750ti. I wanted to know that by how much will the t7200 bottleneck in games? What about in gta v? 40-50 fps is good for me. I'll be playing on 1080p with settings at med-high. Thanks.

  4. Hi everyone.

I have a HP Compaq nx7400  laptop. Its pretty old, but since I had it lying around, I though of using it as an eGPU project. The card i plan on using will be a gtx 750 ti.  My questions are as follows:

    1) The processor in the laptop is a core duo 32 bit processor.  I will upgrade it to a core 2 duo t7200 or t7400 processor. Will this processor bottleneck too much in games? 40-50fps is fine for me though.

    2) I'll be using the EXP GDC Beast for this using express card slot. What are the chances it'll work? Can anybody confirm it works?

    3) What is the setup 1.3 thing? Will I have to use it? I really dont want to spend too much money on this project. Is there a work around or will i have to pay $25 for the software?

    Thanks.
