  1. I'm also here in canada mate.

bought the akitio thunder2 online last feb.5 at b&h photo. Received it after 7 days including the weekdays. Paid about 345.43CAD for everything taxes+shipping+fees.

note: also dont use powered riser as it causes instability issues on the egpu set-up. Just pry open the front part of the akitio thunder 2 so the gtx 980 would fit.

    btw this is my build:

    macbook pro 13 2015 i5 128gb ssd (windows 10)

    EVGA gtx 960 4gb(single fan)

    EVGA 750w g2 PSU

+ some ordered cables to power up egpu set-up

    Current driver(362.00)

tried it @Dschijn still no success. The result is either infinite spinning wheel or no egpu on the device manager. Ill try more booting process to see which one would give me higher chance of making the gpu work. Thanks

@Dschijn earlier today got boot success 1 out of 3
the boot process that usually works based on my experience
-connect the thunderbolt cable to the egpu and SLIGHTLY connect the cable to the mac
    -power on the egpu
    -wait for few seconds
-power on the mac then hold onto option key
-wait for the wifi search (2-3 seconds usually)(wait for the mini spinning wheel to finish)
-then boot to windows at the same time plugging the thunderbolt cable

-after that usually the spinning wheel last about 4 seconds or more

  3. @Dschijn

my set up finally work but the problem now is the booting process. Cant seem to find the sweet spot for booting.  Only got 1/10 success rate.

if i hot plug it after the windows load the egpu would show up in the device manager but no games would run and other apps are iffy.

And if i hot plug it before os selection just like your booting method or before/during the spinning wheel. The result would be computer freezes or infinite spinning wheel. If it boots intel iris graphics is the only one showing up on the device manager. But sometimes it would boot properly( very little chance :( )

    good day experts! :D

I have a problem with my egpu set up. When i hot plug it it is recognized by device manager without error but i cant run any games. Also tried doing other boot up method like tranj10 and dschijn method but its always stuck a infinite spinning wheel or bsod or it freezes

thanks in advance for the help

    build:

    macbook pro retina 13 2015

You should be totally fine with the DA-2 since you already ordered the cable.

Imho the Corsair would be much more stable, but your GPU will not bring both PSUs into critical power issues. The DA-2 will habe the big advantage that have an external and fanless PSU. With the Corsair you would make it harder for you to be able to close the case.

I went with the psu instead of dell da-2(didnt find a seller with reasonable shipping cost, too expensive for a used item). Just bought a evga 750w g2 psu got it for a very good deal.

Can i still use this cable(http://m.ebay.com/itm/261932428549?_mwBanner=1so that i can close the case or do i need to use the cables that comes with the psu plus this cable( http://www.ebay.com/itm/ANTRON-CHD04-12BARREL2-5-MOLEX-4-PIN-TO-12V-BARREL-ID-2-5mm-OD-5-5mm-USA-MADE-/261920944843?hash=item3cfbb472cb:g:ZG0AAOSwZd1VdevFto power up the akitio box and gpu? Would love to close the case without moddifying it but if i got no choice i could still live with moddifying it like benchallenger's/phantron's awesome egpu set-up

    thanks! :)

  6. Good day experts! :D

I'm currently in a dilemma if I should go with a dell da-2(used) or a PSU(corsair cx430w modular(bnew). There's only around 5-10 dollar difference in total cost(shipping. etc.) with these 2 items. So which one should i pick? And also which one will be more stable?

    planned set-up:

    -macbook pro retina 13inch 2015

    -akitio thunder2 pcie box

-evga gtx 960 2gb itx (single fan version(would probably fit perfectly with akitio box)

-Pre-made cables from ebay (Akitio eGPU 8 PIN TO 2 x PCI-E 6 PIN super low profile no latch & 1 x BARRELhttp://m.ebay.com/itm/261932428549?_mwBanner=1) I also got this cable (4pin molex to barrel plug 12vhttp://www.ebay.com/itm/ANTRON-CHD04-12BARREL2-5-MOLEX-4-PIN-TO-12V-BARREL-ID-2-5mm-OD-5-5mm-USA-MADE-/261920944843?hash=item3cfbb472cb:g:ZG0AAOSwZd1VdevF) if I'll just gonna use the cables from the psu.

question again- is my set up gonna be alright? Or do I need to change some of the parts?

    thanks in advance! :D

Oh that is great. That cable is the only thing you need if you want to power the GPU with a Dell DA-2.

@aldwinjimenez The "all in one cable" you linked is not made anymore!

    You will need:

    - 90 degree 6-Pin PCIe

    - 6-Pin PCIe y-cable

    - barrel plug with screw terminal

Nice! Thanks sir. So there's one extra 6 pin connector? ill just leave it dangling?

Oh forgot to mention i contacted the ebay seller and said he cant sell the cable anymore on ebay but it can still be purchased directly from him.

If you want to be able to close the AKiTiO case, you will need the one fan version of the EVGA GTX960 and the correct amount of 90° 6-Pin or 8-Pin PCIe plugs to power it.

If you don't want to close the case, you don't need to stick to that.

Yes sir.thanks for the reply. But im still confused. Im getting this single fan version with a 6pin connector. Gpu image below. Do i just plug in only one 6 pin connector from this cable http://www.ebay.com/itm/261932428549 going to the gpu? Will it be enough to power the gpu?

or do i still need to buy this cable http://www.ebay.com/itm/251837196021 but with a 6pin connectors on both ends so that i can plug all the 6pin connectors from the 1st cable I mentioned? Or it's not necessary? Sorry for the noob question. Thanks again sir @Dschijn

btw this is my planned specs for my egpu build running on a Macbook pro 13" retina 2015(osx10.11.2 / win10):

    -EVGA gtx 960 sc(single fan version)(6.80"x4.38") (max power draw:128w)

    -Akitio thunder2 pcie enclosure

    -Dell da-2

    -these cables: http://www.ebay.com/itm/261932428549 & http://www.ebay.com/itm/261932428549

will it run stable or do i need to change some of the hardwares or the os version on osx/windows? Thanks! :)
