  1. Question for svl7. I have the Alienware 18 with the 780 cards. Will your 780 vbios for dell work for this? I know it is a Dell but I don't want to assume a black screen, and toasted cards. Thanks.

    I have an Alienware 18 with dual 780m, and I can assure you that slv7 VBIOS works wonder for our cards. If you follow the flash guide on page 1 step by step is a very safe procedure, and it's totally worth doing it. Don't forget to buy slv7 a beer when you have a chance. We can't thank him enough for what he's been doing for the community.

  2. Ok so I've had only 1 680m in my m18x r2 for a few months and just today i received my second card. My master card has the following vbios: 80.04.5b.00.02 and I'm guessing that's slv7's unlocked one. So... I check the vbios version of my newly arrived card and it states it the same version. I'm not sure how this is possible if i haven't flashed it yet? I guess I wouldn't care if the core clock of my new 680m went above 719mhz...

    what's the proper procedure here? Am I not supposed to flash the new card so both vbios' match? Or is there a newer version of the unlocked vbios I should be using? Thanks for all your help in advance.

  3. Nope, Nofew. Before I flashed this vbios I was reaching around 45 FPS with a slight OC and the OV'd 1050. And before that, I was about 40FPS average with my stock vbios and a 50 Mhz overclock, when I was at .950 volts, around. This vbios just messed me up, I'm pretty sure. I'll report back when I flash a different one though.

    Yes, this vbios in examination messed me up to, although I know there are several users who don't have problems with it. I didn't experience any fps stuck at one value, but the cards became very unstable and crashed constantly. I tried all the vbios available for Dell 680m and, aside from that one we're discussing, all work great. I'm currently using the OV 1050 and I'm quite happy with it, since I can overclock 1040 core and 1100 memory gaining great performance and stability.

  4. It's really weird. If you saw the slv7 logo at boot it means that you did flashed the cards. Today I tried flashing the cards again with the vBIOS I've already been using successfully and all went well. I flashed in the following way, give it a try:

    1) summon cmd.exe in Administrator mode

    2) nvflash -b backup.rom

    3) nvflash -4 -5 -6 "Dell 680m - 80.04.33.00.32__'OCedition'_revised_00 - OV 1050v.rom" (the most stable vBIOS with my system. It allows me higher OC > +292mhz core clock +400mhz memory).

    4) follow the prompt - it will ask you if you want to go ahead and flash, type YES

    5) it will ask you again if you want to flash the second GPU, type YES

    6) done, type EXIT

    7) reboot and check all it's working

  5. did you flash both your cards using i<card number> command?

    0-for card 1

    1-for card 2

    if you directly flashed without card number, i think it only flashes the master card

    explains why overclock limit +135mhz is not there when sli is off

    i would advise you to save BOTH their vbios seperately for flashing back to stock

    I agree with Rajat. That's what most likely happened. Make sure you follow the steps for flashing the vBIOS correctly and repeat the process for the second card typing 1 this time.

    I'm currently using the Dell 680m - 80.04.5B.00.02_'OCedition'_revised_00 vBios. I can overclock via Afterburner or EVGA PrecisionX to 900 and the system is stable. However, if I try to go higher, let's say 940+, after some times playing or benchmarking the driver crashes or the pc freezes. Needless to say that the notebook is well-cooled and temps are always checked and optimal--CPU & GPUS never over-heat and there's no throttling whatsoever. So, my question goes to the M18x owners with 680m SLi who are using one of slv7 (amazing) vBios: what's the max core overclock you've managed to reach with stability, and what vBios are you using to do so?

  7. What are your core clocks and memory clocks with this vbios?

    You say this is the only one you can OC the core. All the ones I have tried have had some sort of core clock OC available wether is be 135, 324, or the one that seems to be open.

    OCnewedition causes driver crashes for me once I try to OC my cards with something that was stable with anothe vbios.

    I still think the 900mhz core clock with OV is still the best and stable. Until someone shows some benchmarks that surpass what I was able to score then I don't see how ocnewedition is better.

    EDIT: I didnt see that you repsponded to my previous question. I'm glad your not having problems with that vbios. I wish I didn't because I know my core clocks can handle a lot more OC and still waiting to be able to unleash the true power of these cards.

    Yes. The 900 mhz one seems stable, but as the others, the cards throttle badly (temps never higher than 60, so it's never been about heat. The 758 one crashed only once in Crysis 2, but the rest seem ok. I overclocked up to 950 and run Heaven dx11 for longer than an hour with heavy tessellation and AA 8x. It kept always above 75 fPS. Also run metro and Crysis 2 benchies and not once the driver crashed.

    EDIT: so, even with the 758mhz vbios the cards throttle at about 200mhz -- still no driver crashes though. I guess I'll have to go back to the 900mhz one again.

    EDIT 2: installed the 900mhz and it was throttling as well, atty first. This until I locked the fps to 60 with evga precision and now they don't throttle anymore. I tried it in long sessions of unigine heaven, crysis 2, crysis wars, and borderlands 2. No problem so far.

  8. So your not having driver crashes with the 758mhz with unlocked core? Intertesting.

    There were a couple of us that were having driver crashes with it and it was only stable at very low OC which didn't produce the same results as some of the other vbios. Not sure what was causing it, I don't remember if it was OV or not.

    What are you able to OC your cards to then?

    None of the vbios I tried -- the 758mhz included -- gave me a driver crash in game. However, all of them but the one I posted the link experience a 100/200~ mhz throttle. I'm still trying to experiment with various clocks and yesterday I was able to play Crysis 1 and 2 at 950mhz core both all maxed out and with vsync ON and keeping a stable 60 fps (50/60 for Crysis 1). Note that in Crysis 1 the cards "throttle" from 950 to 850 (never below it) but I never experience a drop in fps or stuttering.

    I'm currently using the "Dell 680m - 80.04.33.00.21 - OCedition_OV," which is the one that allows me to OC both core and memory with Afterburner. Note that this is the only one that allow me to do so. I tried all the others scattered around the pages of this thread and the above-mentioned vbios is the only one that unlocks the cards.

    I have an M18x r2. I tried all the various vbios over the Dell stock one.

  10. So, let me share my personal experience with various vbios and their performance so far. I tried all the various mod so skillfully made by svl7. All of them allow higher clocks and noticeable improvements in game and benchmarks. However, all of them but one (the New OCedition svl7 posted on 09/08 that you can find linked below) have locked core voltage - not possible to further OC through Afterburner - and throttle down about 100mhz and more. The one I linked is in my personal experience the only one, that starting from a locked 758mhx core clock, allows to OC as far as you like and although throttles a bit in mhz didn't drop a single fps in game.
