    "The version of OS X on the new MacBook Pros (late 2016) will not work with existing [Plugable] Certified Thunderbolt 3 docks and adapters (released prior to November 2016). These existing devices use Intel’s Thunderbolt 3 chipset (Alpine Ridge) in combination with the first generation of [Texas Instruments] TI USB-C chipset (TPS65982). Apple requires the 2nd generation TPS65983 chipset for peripherals to be compatible. Certification of solutions across different device types is still in-progress for this 2nd generation chipset."

  2. If you're not underclocking in Windows, I would definitely only get a card with 6-pin power connector. Without it, I think you'll always be fighting to get enough peak/stable power through the slot alone. My MSI GTX 950 2GD5 OC fits in the Akitio nicely and is rock solid. Plug & play!

     

    950 is also much better "bang for your buck" than 750 Ti right now and not much more expensive, if at all.

     

    There are also versions of the 950 that shut off the fan at idle, called "silent cooling" etc. (Mine doesn't ever shut off the fan, but is very quiet when running. Leave the case off and unplug the Akitio fan and there's just a barely detectable hum because it never needs to ramp up the fan, even under load.)

     

    EDIT: 950s are rated 90W, but I am running Dell DA-2 (220W) to make sure I have enough power. 120W adapter + 950 may still be cutting it too close ...

    Aha, this makes sense, and the 750 Ti has been benchmarked at peak 141 W, even if it averages more like 64 W.

    Thanks OP, this is very helpful. I was considering this setup but I'm looking for something that will work in OSX too, so I'll probably instead go with a card with 6-pin connector + Dell power supply, maybe GTX 950.

    -GTX 750 Ti

    -quality 120W 12v 10a power supply

    is stable and working? Or if it's not ...

    I'd prefer to simply plug in a 120w psu and close the case, but will need to decide whether to buy a 750 Ti with or without a 6-pin connector (can't simply upgrade to Dell DA-2 later if 120w + 750 without connector is insufficient). Or I could just build an i3 hackintosh for $50–75 more ...

    (I have Macbook Air mid 2013 TB1.)
