So all I need is the Sonnet III-D, 980ti, high end x16 riser with propper isolation/shielding for electro magnetic protection, Windows 8.1 through Bootcamp and a Thunderbolt cable?

This (my) setup. What hardware would I need to do all the the things you did in your setup but with the 980ti? Listing it down would be helpful. Thank you so much for the help!

@Tango: The extra fans are not required in my mini setup. It will just make the eGPU run cooler and quieter.
A GTX 980Ti should work too, especially in Windows. Of course it will not fit into the AKiTiO itself as a mini setup.
What case would be suitable but still use the same cables? Thanks for the quick reply!

Is it possible to do this without the extra/new fans (on this post: http://forum.techinferno.com/implementation-guides-apple/9821-2014-15-macbook-pro-iris-gtx970%4016gbps-tb2-akitio-thunder2-win8-1-%5Bdschijn-2%5D.html and will that setup work with the 980ti too?)? Will this work with the new GTX 980ti?

Does the video guide you linked only work with 10.10.1? Also, could you please explain how to build this setup or link a video explaining how to do it? Thanks!

What cables did you use? Could you please specify the specific hardware you used (cables, adapters, GPU, PSU)? Also, did you use the Akitio Thunder 2?

With an Akitio, I will need a riser (with a molex adapter or not?), the GPU, a PSU and a Thunderbolt cable then. Right? Sorry for being ignorant
Plus PCIe cables (6/8 pin).
