  1. The fan tables are controlled in the EC and that is not easily modded. The behavior is intended. Alienware released that BIOS like it is on purpose to stop 6990M CrossFried for burning itself up from the fans not running when they should.

You can read more about why in this thread: AMD 6900M Series - Overheating and Thermal Shutdown (Alienware / NBR Teleconference)

    Thank you for that link.

So, the fan tables are still the same no matter what video card the system came bundled with? Mine came with a GeForce GTX 460M... I will read all those threads in full.

I am currently using HWiNFO64 to manually control the fans, I thought I might be able to correct such behavior with an unlocked BIOS version. :(

Would anybody still recommend to flash it?

  2. I own an Acer netbook. It is a basic unit, mostly capable of office work, but what I can say is that I had it for over 8 years and it has been 100% reliable and durable.

I did not plan to use it for such a long time because I was confident it was going to break eventually, but it was a big surprise. I use it all the time, I'm a developer and an IT guy, I always carry it with me to configure networks for security installations (cameras, dvr, etc), I travel to factories in remote places and I have dropped it many times. Never had a problem, not even the HDD failed once. Last month, I replaced its HDD with an SSD unit to increase its performance and prevent any damage due to travelling.

    Definitely recommended.

  3. I recently installed my new 780m. I started playing Arma 3 and I watched my temps climb to 90c pretty quickly. The card throttled itself like it was supposed to and the game started to lag. I tabbed out to look at PrecisionX and try and set a new fan curve because they wouldn't turn on. Then, all of a sudden, the fans turned on pretty high and dropped the temps down to 52c rapidly. I was able to play for a couple of hours with no problem. I tried to start up DayZ and the fans wont turn on at all after sitting at 90c for a while.

Whats going on? How do I get the fans to turn on before it reaches 90c for an extended period of time?

Hey, I have a similar issue, mine won't turn on the fans until it reaches a high temp (over 60C), once on, they lower the temp down to 40 C and turn off again, letting it climb back to over 60 C, the cycle repeats forever. Same scenario if I am playing a game with the only difference that the temp range increases from 60 C to 85 C

I am checking if that behaviour can be corrected by flashing to an unlocked BIOS.

    What BIOS are you using?

  4. I have the A05 stock BIOS (m18x R1) and for some reason the CPU/GPU fans won't turn on until temp reaches 60 C, at that moment they lower the temp down to 45 C and turn off again, repeating the same cycle over and over.

Anybody had that same issue? Is there a chance to fix that with the unlocked BIOS ver?
