  1. Yes. It will work on stock BIOS.

Thanks for the reply! I never got an answer and need a fix to my wifi situation so I just went ahead and flashed my bios to 3.05 and bought the intel 7260 ac. Maybe I'll pick one of these up and pop it in there to test it out with a stock bios.

  2. Just wondering 2 things

    1. Is it possible to permanently remove this "secure boot" nonsense? It is analogous to say a locked bootloader on an android phone?

    2. how does one go round disabling it, (im trying to install a linux distro and I keep getting some stupid errors

    3. is there a 3rd party bios available? Would I even want such a thing?

not sure if it is the same on the y510p or not, but on the y410p you press F2 at POST to go into bios setup then the security tab and there is a secure boot section and you disable it. this will disable it until you re-enable it. i also found that i had to enable legacy support for boot devices to see usb, optical, and external drives during boot. As someone said you press F12 at POST to get to the boot menu.

  3. Lenovo laptops have wi-fi white list, that's the reason you had trouble with changing wi-fi card. According to SSD there rather are no restrictions. Just 42mm length in the key of B for m.2 and don't use ADATA Premier Pro (I bought it and my laptop cannot see that disk).

Thanks for the response! I didn't know there were different keys too. new to the m.2 and msata

this is what i was looking at. Looks like it has B and M keys. Will that work in the y410p also?

  4. So I'm looking through everything I can here for information on how to improve my wifi situation. Seems like this community is more geared towards the 510 due to the gaming prowess? I have seen people speak of this wifi card (Amazon.com: Azurewave AW-CE123H / 802.11ac/n/b/g + Bluetooth 4.0 / Half-Size PCI-Express MiniCard (Broadcom BCM4352 & BCM20702): Computers & Accessories) but it always seems to be in context with a modded bios or the y500/y510p. The chipset matches that of the permitted FRU in the y510p manual. I'm just looking to see if this card would work with a normal bios. Going the route of modding is fine, but if this card works and I can keep my warranty entact that would be amazing as well. Some of the threads i've found mentioning it are 10+ pages long and the search thread option is giving me an error so it's hard to sift through some of this stuff to find info. Most of the posts are also older and none speak of the y410p specifically. Does anyone have a definitive answer on if this can be used without installing the modded bios?

  5. So we are running a few different HP products at my office. One of which is the Folio 9470m. There was recently an update that moved away from protect tools to the security client. So from intel/mcafee to digitalpersona/winmagic. Overall, it seems like an upgrade, but it appears as though customization of the encryption software pre-boot screen is gone. I'm looking to see if anyone has attempted to modify this in anyway to change that screen to add branding and things of that nature. HP says it cannot be done, but it's their level 1 support and they don't seem to inclined to escalate it any further. Any assistance would be appreciated.

  6. I just replaced my stock HDD with a Samsung 840 Pro I had here. Works great with the Win 10 preview. So after I got all the System Reserved garbage figured out (ie: moving it to c:) I have that m.2 slot opened up for another drive. I was looking to get the transcend 256GB m.2. seems like the 42mm m.2 options are pretty limited. Are there any quirky hardware compatibility I need to look out for? Upgrading the wifi has been a nightmare which is why I'm initially here to get the modded bios so I can install an AC card. Just wanted to see what the opinions are about the m.2 situation. Seems like most of the posts around here are 500 series.
