  1. Beautiful! Thank you sir. Disabling the dgpu seems to be helping me tremendously. I've also turned by macbook over (Apple logo on the table), and it really seems to be helping with temperatures. GTA V seems to be running between 50-60 fps on Very High settings on my GTX 970 FTW. I'm running a MBPr 2012 i7 2.6ghz Thunderbolt 1. Even though I'm bottlenecked at 10Gbps, I'm still quite pleased with the results. Still seem to be having the strange power issue with 3DMark. I'll try out the molex to barrel adapter when it gets here on Saturday.
  2. How specifically are you disabling the 750m dgpu? Just by using Afterburner and sliding it's clocks to zero?
  3. My system powers off by itself when running 3dmark, as OP's did in the beginning. My PSU is an evga 500W ATX 12V. I'm currently using a cheap powered riser so I assume this may be the source of my problem. I'm waiting on a molex to barrel adapter to arrive (via ebay). Could it really just be a software problem (Steam version vs. stand-alone)? I find that hard to believe. To reset my system and power it up again, I have to unplug & re-plug my jump starter bridge. Also seems strange considering I was running a few games without a problem....GTA V and Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. Perhaps 3dmark purposefully draws more power and I've surpassed the threshold of my crappy powered riser? Seems most logical.
  4. Are you hitting any obvious walls related to the MBP's 85W power supply limit? Just wondering if there is anything that can be done to circumvent that through Throttlestop.
  5. Nando, I seem to be having trouble with my setup. I have a mid-2012 Macbook Pro Retina with the Nvidia 650m dGPU, trying to setup an Nvidia 970 FTW eGPU via the AKiTiO Thunder2. I've run your eGPU setup via the hard drive as well as a USB installation, and my system always freezes on compaction. I've run several scenarios via your compaction help section, but I always end up freezing when the compaction process completes "Press [ENTER] to return to menu..." I can never get past this screen. It always seems to show five error messages near the end: error - bridge (bus_behind=a) range 1 shouldn't overlap with bridge (bus_behin error - bridge (bus_behind=9) range 1 shouldn't overlap with bridge (bus_behin error - bridge (bus_behind=8) range 1 shouldn't overlap with bridge (bus_behin error - bridge (bus_behind=6) range 1 shouldn't overlap with bridge (bus_behin error - bridge (bus_behind=1) range 1 shouldn't overlap with bridge (bus_behin Does this give you any clues as to what may be going on? Any idea if an earlier version of your eGPU setup may help? Thanks
  6. Hi nando, just a friendly reminder....I sent a paypal payment last night. Can you please e-mail me with the link? Thanks! - - - Updated - - - Aaaand it was in my spam folder. Lol sorry. Thanks again.
  7. Hi guys, noob here.... I would like to pursue an eGPU setup on my iMac, but I'm unclear as to whether I will have the ability to drive the iMac display? I understand it will take a performance hit, but can I accomplish this at all by modifying kext files? I've read that if you have a dedicated GPU (in my case, the Nvidia 640m), you are restricted to using an external monitor. I'd prefer not to do this, as I like my iMac display. Is there a way to disable the 640m and use Intel integrated graphics (noob question -- does my Mac even have that?) Thanks in advance. Glad to finally join these forums...I love seeing constructive responses instead of "why would you do that?"
