Yes, that is a good possibility. If it only began happening after repaste, try taking the GPU out of the socket, blow out any dust or lint in the MXM slot and reseat the GPU. If you're lucky it may just be a bad connection in the MXM slot.

    Mr.Fox, thanks for the reply.

Try to do seat/reseating several times. Still the same problem. I will try to clean the GPU connector and MXM slot right now. Just still waiting about my compressed air can I ordered to arrive. Just two question mr.Fox, Any side effect to my system if I'm not switch back to PEG or disable the on board GPU ? or maybe I'm missing some feature ? I don't like using Optimus either, but seems like now I don't have a choice. And the 2nd question, Any tips about how to properly cleaning the golden GPU connector and the MXM slot ? I read quiet a lot of horror story about how fragile those parts is, how it's easy to bent,etc..etc... Beside, it's my first time doing this stuff, so any help is really appreciated.

  2. Guys, i need some advice.....

Several days before, i just lost my laptop display after repasting My GPU card process. I manage to get it back using removal of CMOS Battery process, and put it back. But now, the BIOS got back into it's default settings and I got problem everytime I went to switch the BIOS setting for set the primary display to PEG and for disabling the internal on board graphic setting. The screen go back to dark after I save the setting. Does that mean my 680m card have faulty since the display on my screen is always gone everytime I set that card as primary ?

78C way too high/stock clocks, even for a 560M 75W heat sink (proper heat sink 580M/675M 100W #MT1DN), clearly poor contact between the GPU die and heat sink + components (thermal pads) or heat sink radiator incl fan are clogged with dust...GPU fan working correctly?

1- After extracting driver package delete the following folders:

    Display.Optimus
    Display.Update
    GFExperience
    GFExperience.NvStreamSrv
    GfExperienceService
    LEDVisualizer
    MS.NET
    MSVCRT
    Network.Service
    NV3DVision
    NV3DVisionUSB.Driver
    NvVAD
    ShadowPlay
    ShieldWirelessController
    Update.Core

    2-  Display.Driver folder, copy/overwrite nv_dispi.inf  -> run setup.exe

Hey j95, Fan of your work here..... ^^

I often use Shadowplay for capture and reporting a cheater during online play. Since you told us to delete some folder mention it above, it's this process optional ? I don't need GFE, but I need it to activate my Shadowplay feature. if it's optional, which folder should I keep if I still want to use it ?

    Appreciate your help.... ^^

Wah...wah.... kasian nih orang Surabaya..... :D

1.Download DDU program first. There's a link on page 1.

2.AC Syndicate eh ? Mine's have no problem running it at 358.91 Version Driver. So, I suggest you download the same. Check Page 35 from the j95 Post for the link, or you can search on google or at the nvidia site and download the driver based on the OS that you're using.

3.Still on that page 35, Download either the nv_dispi.inf OR nvcvi.inf depends on the Alienware model and GPU that you're using.

    4. After everything has been downloaded, just follow the instruction on page 1.

  5. Hi I have been following the threads on M17x r3 680M compatability forum on notebookreview.com

I have recently updated to windows 10 after a clean install on my M17x R3 with a 680m running fine up until now. I tried going through the laptoptogo site but none of their inf files work for me and I don't even want to attempt to mod an inf file myself due to lack of knowledge on programming. I went through and disabled the driver signature verification through the advanced boot options but it made no diffrence and the nvidia installer cannot detect my graphics card. I already am running the same modded bios you mentioned in your guide to installing the 680m and still have the same settings nothing works also this is my first post so I can't even download the files that are recommended.

It's just me read it somewhere or supposed to be for the R3 model can't installing the new Windows 10 because lacking the UEFI compatibility ??

I know I read it somewhere or there's workaround during installing it ?

Need your advice since I got the same system and GPU like the person above....

  6. Hi guys,

Never felt the need to re-mod a new nvidia driver for my M17XR3 since i had modded the 285.62... that was before i noticed a little something with GTA5 for PC..

Now i see that 347.88 / 350.12 drivers.. should i be worry about stability or killing my 680M

The last update happen because my 580M was fried by a nvidia driver so i am worried.

What do you guys think ?

Any input are welcome.. thank you!

Just Upgrade it...... Smooth Install......Give it a go..... :D

  7. Hi, im relative new user in this site and i took the chance to ask some things i wanted to know and i can't find on the web..

once i used baby wipers to clean my pc and i kinda screwed its surface, specially the outside face where the lit up alien logo is (front cover).

it now feels like.. not soft anymore.

is there a fix for this? i found a replacement in ebay, but no video of how-to..

and for future cases, how can i clean the pc correctly? (not only keyboard-screen)

    -----------------------------

extra question, is there a lot of difference between r3 and the newest r5/r6?

What do you mean baby wipers ? The one with the alcohol in it ?

Difference ? yes, shape, color, and most definetely the spec and hardware compatibility.....

  8. I've used this thread in the past to upgrade my failed gtx580m to the GTX780m with success and for that I thank you. However I am still on some very old drivers (335.23) I have just installed GTA V and am aware that there is a new driver that reduces the stuttering that I am experiencing currently. I see J95 has already released an updated inf for it but I am not sure how I go about installing the new drivers on an old modded m17xr3.

    Do I just:

1/ uninstall existing drivers using DDU in safemode,

2/ extract new Nvidia driver v350.12 to a folder

3/ replace inf file in that folder with J95's modded inf file

4/ start v350.12 installation direct from the folder

Would somebody please verify if that is correct or if I need to do anything else like we had to during the original graphics card install?

Almost, don't forget to disable the Driver Signing if you're using Windows 8 or 8.1 on Command Prompt ( as admin) before you start the Driver Installation......

  9. Wow, see all the post above....... what a beast rig you have guys..... :D

I'm already have the PS4 version since I worry that it will stress my Laptop so bad. But still, play it on mobile everywhere I go during work seems wonderful. Just curious, is this game still requires a decent CPU yet ? like majority off almost all open world games......

  10. If I want to use GTX680M I must have 120Hz display on my laptop? Because I have 60Hz. That's why I have black screen if I use GTX680M only? (with disabled optimus and HD4000)

No you're not. My system run on stock 60 Hz on screen and also with the Optimus system disabled. Never had a problem on Display since I installed 680m for replacing my 6990m......

  11. You're system is identically with mine I guess. I'm using 680m on my M17xR3 since my 6990m were dead, and always use the .inf modded driver since that upgrade. now I'm still using 344.60 and plan to upgrade it into GTA V driver (350.12). Yes, I also notice that they're not using nvdm.inf anymore and replacing with nv_dispi.inf. I'm still downloading the driver now and will post my result in case it will help you decide. Just in case you have to courage to move on and try by yourself you can go visit this thread and check the last post for the updated driver include with the modded nv_dispi.inf file from the good old fellow j95. Just follow it step by step on first post and you're good to go....

    http://forum.techinferno.com/nvidia/6307-%5Balienware%5D-aftermarket-upgrades-driver-support-modded-inf.html

Your driver is ancient right now..... you need to move on..... :D
