  1. I did try that a few times with no success.

I have however corrected the problem since.

XTU either wrote the multiplier or the voltage to the RAM. I was able to correct it with Thaiphoon Burner.

Thanks for the moral support :).

  2. I appreciate the offer, however, I don't know if I feel comfortable soldering on the board just yet. I also am not the best at soldering so there is no guarantees I wont screw it up :).

If you happen to figure out a flash method, I will help you out. Just let me know.

    Thanks again for the offer.

    Billy

  3. Yea your right Luis on NBR already confirmed that the new 14 doesn't accept anything higher than 1.35v.

My problem is I was messing with XTU and I tried adjusting the multiplier on the ram and the system didn't like it and I think the RAM is still stuck and possibly at 1.5v.

My computer wont boot past post and has 4 beeps, however, if I remove the sticks it beeps only twice. I'm hoping it isn't something more than the ram.

I prefer A00 since that is currently what I am using, unless you think it is worth the upgrade to A03.

  4. It looks like Insyde updated the way they install the BIOS.

I tried to compare some of the extracted files from the current BIOS release for my Alienware 14 and the extension to the file that needs to be renamed isn't part of the extraction with the current BIOS.

My 14 is beeping 4 times, according to Dell that is a RAM issue. I replaced the low voltage RAM with regular DDR3 hoping it solved the problem. I still have the issue and I was hoping to be able to do a blind flash of the BIOS but can't find any resources on this and hoping someone in the community has some knowledge.

I posted this in the general Alienware forum because I am assuming the new lineup is all using this new Insyde format.

    Thanks

  5. I'm usually oblivious to problems resuming from sleep because I always disable sleep and hibernation functionality on all systems. My computers are always either turned on or shut off.

I was supprised with this as well. I have never used sleep or hibernation and that's the first thing I disable. With the speeds of todays SSD it really is pointless to use them I believe.

  6. I just ran this bench. And I have to say I am stunned with the score. I think I had the highest score according to 3dmark previous to this run with a 12949.

Only thing different is my ram speeds and the removal of the Dell provided ram.

Here is the 3dmark link of my before and after benches.

    Result

    And a screenie.

And this is ran with svl7's 900mhz core vbios.

  7. Yes, you are right. I totally spaced out. I'm sorry. With all the vbios I have tried during the last few days I'm getting confused :-)

The Dell 680m - OCeditionNew is the one I'm currently using and that, at least in my case, unlocks both core and memory clocks.

What are your core clocks and memory clocks with this vbios?

You say this is the only one you can OC the core. All the ones I have tried have had some sort of core clock OC available wether is be 135, 324, or the one that seems to be open.

OCnewedition causes driver crashes for me once I try to OC my cards with something that was stable with anothe vbios.

I still think the 900mhz core clock with OV is still the best and stable. Until someone shows some benchmarks that surpass what I was able to score then I don't see how ocnewedition is better.

EDIT: I didnt see that you repsponded to my previous question. I'm glad your not having problems with that vbios. I wish I didn't because I know my core clocks can handle a lot more OC and still waiting to be able to unleash the true power of these cards.

  8. My best score thus far is P10740, Graphics 11233, Physical 10788, w/ combined 8044 (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3920XM Processor Extreme Edition,Alienware M18xR2 score: P10740 3DMarks)

My system is an R2 w/ OC 4.4 all coures 3920XM and SLI OV/OC 999Mhz Card0 w/ mem at 2050 & 800Mhz CPU Card1 mem 1800. The SLI is configured with PhysX being processed by the CPU with SLI/Max3D on. Additionally, the system is supported by a verified, cached RAID 5 SSD's w/ WEI 7.9.

BIOS is set w/ all C-states off, memory at 2133 1.55V, Extreme edition of 4.4 all 4 coures, FLEX 40, Time window 5 sec, and Long/Short term TDP at 99 each. The bus speed is 105mHz and the overall effect on my 16GB of ram is 1900+MHZ.

I disabled themes, its a clean install Win7U fully updated and with minimal servies/startup apps running. I set the 3DMark 11 Basic Edition to high over all CPU's.

lastly, my max GPU temp is 82c w/ CPU 95c for a very short duration.

Shouldn't I be getting higher benchmarks than this? What are some other tweaks I should look into?

I don't have time to check my scores but, my highest score is 12943 I think and that is with svl7's 900mhz core clock with OV plus the 135+mhz allowed to OC. My memory for gpu0 is 2700mhz and gpu 1 is 2400mhz.

My processor is set at 50 flex 46 46 46 46 with the rest of the same settings as you. I am also running 1600 on the Pri Plane.

CPU is dedicated to Physx as well.

I am running my system with it sitting on an AC.

  9. So, let me share my personal experience with various vbios and their performance so far. I tried all the various mod so skillfully made by svl7. All of them allow higher clocks and noticeable improvements in game and benchmarks. However, all of them but one (the New OCedition svl7 posted on 09/08 that you can find linked below) have locked core voltage - not possible to further OC through Afterburner - and throttle down about 100mhz and more. The one I linked is in my personal experience the only one, that starting from a locked 758mhx core clock, allows to OC as far as you like and although throttles a bit in mhz didn't drop a single fps in game.

    Link: http://forum.techinferno.com/attachments/general-notebook-discussions/4926d1347183728-dell-680m-oceditionnew.zip

So your not having driver crashes with the 758mhz with unlocked core? Intertesting.

There were a couple of us that were having driver crashes with it and it was only stable at very low OC which didn't produce the same results as some of the other vbios. Not sure what was causing it, I don't remember if it was OV or not.

What are you able to OC your cards to then?

  10. Hey svl7, good to see your back. Is it possible for you to increase the voltage on the dell bios that you posted , it's the one with no limit on core. I think you called it "dellNEW"

I tried it and you can set the clock to what ever you please and I check the afterburner graph and they do change but with the lack of over voltage it is now stable and get low performance.

Wouldn't the best vbios to re-moddify be the Dell 680m - 80.04.33.00.21.rom_900default_OV.zip with more then what's availble for OC. Like maybe atleast 324+. That I think would probably max out our cards.

This vbios seems to be the best one available.

    What do you think slv7?

  11. Now that I can flash fixed cards, Ive tried all four ROMs. The "base 850 to 889", the "850 to 889 w/ OC", "850 to 889 w/ OC/OV", and the one on page 39 or so. Trying all four, I am using the one that leave the base 758Mhz while opening up OC w/ possible +600 or so. I am OC to 959 w/ RAM at 2000 and its stable. I enjoy it. I have removed all the Dell rubber BS and using Arctic. Its amazing.

    Thanks for testing, much appreciated.

I think that is roughly what I can OC with on the possible 600+ but anything more and my driver will crash or computer will blue screen.

I am using a 900mhz core with 124mhz possible OC and that one I get my best benchmarks with (I believe currently I have the highest score for a 3920xm and 680m sli according to 3dmark).

You might want to try that one, I don't get throttling with it like I do with the one your using.

It's in this thread somewhere on one of the earlier pages. Its posted in svl7 post for download.

  12. FEEDBACK:

This worked! I am running Dell 680m - OCeditionNew.zip (51.8 KB, 15 views) on both cards. I flashed them when they finally showed up in the device manager and BIOS, but when I restarted and got past POST, the machine hung there for 2 minutes with an under-bar in the upper R.hand corner prior to booting. I actually turned the machine off w/in a few seconds and flashed over again, played with settings etc, but still the under-bar. After I was about to give up I just let the under-bar remain without interruption and after nearly 2 minutes, boom, windows begin to load. After this "initial wait" of 2 minutes, there has been no additional need to wait for boot. Furthermore, I had to reinstal Nvidia drivers to enable SLI. Thank you!

Are you able to OC with that vbios and not have your video driver crash. That was the problem I was having with that vbios.

  13. slv7 here is a little feed back.

On the Dell 680m - 850 base - 889 boost - OV - OC.zip vbios, I could max my core out to 324mhz over core clock. Memory on gpu1 to 900mhz over and gpu 2 to 600 mhz over. Sometimes I would encounter a BSOD or driver crash with my 2nd card that high. It seemed stable under 575mhz.

With that being said, the new vbios you just modded I get driver crashes after about 1 min of setting my cards to the frequencies stated above.

I don't have any other data besides that.

  14. svl7 thanks a lot for the work you have done on the Dell 680m vbios. It works great.

Is it possible for you to set the core clock higher than what you currently have it set to?

I have both my cards maxed out on the core that you were able to unlock up to 324mhz over the core clock.

I don't if it is possible and haven't seen anyone ask if you could make a new vbios that would have the core set higher or if you have the ability to go past 324mhz of OC.

If not you still did some great work here.

    Thanks

  15. I'm trying to download this one http://forum.techinferno.com/attachments/general-notebook-discussions/4695d1344361304-dell-680m-850-base-889-boost-ov-oc.zip (I think it's what you said) but the web does not let me yet :/

Can I get my gpus flashed into windows?

Miguel I believe you ahve to be an "Elite Member" in order to download. Or you might also need to have a certain number of quality post before your eligible to download.

You can download this version - Downloads that svl7 has already provided. It doesnt have the Over Voltage but does allow you to OverClock.

EDIT: I forgot you asked about flashin in windows. The answer is yes. I just wrote a very quit down and dirty way to do that over at notebookeview http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m18x/632169-official-alienware-m18x-benchmark-thread-part-2-a-219.html#post8799629

You need to have the latest windows version of "nvflash" and know how to use command promt in windows

Hopefully that will help you out a little
