@J95, I was under the impression that the IDT issue was IRQ or driver conflict of some kind and that it was not unique to the 780m, from your post am I correct in understanding that this was indeed a 780m issue only

@iTzZent, where you able to try this system with any of the current games e.g.

- FarCry 4

- Warlords of Draenor (MMO's always make CPU work hard and that seems to be the limiting factor on this rig)

- Witcher 2 (older but always tough at max settings)

- Watch Dogs

Really interested in seeing what sort of pure gaming machine this is, especially now that Alienware will not be competing in the 18" market anymore

@Mr Fox, I agree from an enthusiast bencher viewpoint this is not going to cut it, but what are your thoughts about it as a pure gaming machine? Lets say comparing it to the current Alienware 18 (even if AW18 will not be there to compete in the future). A lot of AW18 are shipping with the 4710/4810, pound for pound or dollar for dollar when comparing at stock this looks comparable from a purely gaming perspective. Thoughts?

Thanks J95, can you clarify why I would skip the IDT workaround if using an 880m? Would I not be having the same problem with the IDT or was this a 780m specific issue?

For the M17XR3 can a 880m be used instead of the 780m using the same steps detailed in (#222) by J95?

I am considering upgrading my A18 to 980m SLI now that it seems possible (with a few tweaks) and using one of the 880m's in my old m17xR3 and flogging the other, but I have not found a clear description of a successful installation of an 880m in a 3D M17xR3 so far.

Saddest day ever when I heard about this.

I loved my M17xR3 until nvidia drivers popped my 580m, and really enjoyed my AW18 (even if it was sub par to the AW18xR2 in terms of what could be done) and I was looking forward to upgrading to 980m's. But this move is just wrong, especially as there is finally a competitor in the new MSI Titan. Whatever happened to competition making one stronger!!

The MSI fans have been loving the new Titan so far, do you think it is worth switching to MSI rather than Clevo?
