  1. Hi There, I too had the same problem with my M14xr1. Every game slowed down to a halt. After doing several checks, I decided to follow this guide: Alienware M14x Disassembly/Teardown and Upgrade Guide! and discovered my entire vent is stuck by a stupid layer of dust. After removing, I conveniently repasted my thermals. Now everything runs smooth as butter even with turbocharged on. I strongly recommend you to do the same if you have an R1 as well

  2. Which beta event did you start on or what resolution were you playing at? with an Alienware M14 R2 , the only way to play smoothly is to put shadows to low. The rest on high and AA and AF disabled @ 1600 x 900 res.

I tested with an M14 R1. OCed at 770 core and 1080 memory. Everything maxed out with shadows low. My res was on default 14" though. BTW, I have the 3GB version of GT555m on it which I am sure I am very sure has no bearing on the performance.

  3. When I first received my R1, the drive broke within 3 months.

Upset as i was had to go through a very unfriendly helpdesk to get it replaced.

After a couple of months, the laptop spontanously started to reboot (which was fixed after a upgrade to A05-A08).

What is the build quality like for the M14x R2?

Same horror stories, or is this the best laptop ever???

    Cheers,

I have both the R2 and R1. My R1 HDD failed after 1 week as well... My R2 meanwhile is fine. The build quality seems to be similar.
