Just to confirm something. Since a lot of people tend to make the mistake about this.
Is your memory DDR3L one? DDR3L is the one with 1.35v not DDR3 which is 1.5v. Since y510p with haswell cpu can only use DDR3L one. If you use ddr3 one on y510p, it will cause instability since notebook can't provide enough voltage to ram.
Yeah realised it was DDR3......too bad because it performed well in my other laptop (that died)

If someone would like to know, my CPU is "dead" (they tested it on another laptop). So, do not undervolt via BIOS
Wow, strange that a little undervolting would kill the processor.

I just did mine without a hitch. Took me about 5-10 minutes end to end. Appreciate the work that went into it!

Lenovo is primarily a business company. If you lock down the list of components that can be installed its easier to provide support, and costs IT and warranty departments less money. Its as simple as that.

I think it's good modded bios... ( I don't have find any else)....
Anyone have brick on this laptop with this bios?
From what I can tell from reading through the thread only a handful have been affected, and its only the ones that have tried overclocking/undervolting from within the bios itself. Everyone else seems to be running just fine.

So, private service didnt fix my lenovo y510p:D
Do any of u know, if lenovo varranty service will fix it, since it doesnt have any lenovo varranty seals? It was like that since i bought it i think..
I remember reading another post somewhere, where the user had completely dismantled and soldered on the board, and they still fixed it, so you are probably in with a shout.

So just to clarify, this mod is perfectly safe at the moment, as long as you dont overclock/undervolt?!?!?!

.....just a heads up for anyone thinking about using Corsair Vengeance memory in their Y510p......just don't......it causes major instability and BSODs. It was an expensive lesson, and I'm back on the memory it came with.

Don't know if this has already been asked but does anybody know of a network card for the y510p that would be hackintosh compatible?
The Broadcom DW1510 should work with the modified Bios, and is OSx compatible.

Can I attach an Intel 7260 to my laptop, get it running, then update my bios to 3.0.5?
Right now the version of the flashed BIOS is causing me some problems so I want the 3.0.5 version again.
Will that reset my BIOS back to the default one with the list for permitted network cards?
If you update the bios after, it enables the lenovo whitelist again, and only the permitted cards will be allowed.

3.7 isn't the version. Its the revision. my lenovo got the same revision but was version 2.05. so just update to 3.05. I'm also trying to make my Intel 7260 AC work :/
Did you get it all working mate?
-
Yeah I got the 840 pro as well, but considering adding the msata card if I can find one at a decent price.

I got my caddy from hddcaddy.com and it only took a few minutes to install.....quite pleased with it, just wish it had come with the front bezel, so I didn't have to take the one off the optical drive.
-
I cant even install the update.
You have to go into the bios first and enable backflash, then it should update without issue.

what do you think of this model laptop for other operations systems? Is the 755m a giant leap over 660m?
Its a big enough leap to be able to run some newer games with higher settings.

Game of Thrones, and still watching The West Wing (for about the 6th time, brilliant writing)

a million ways to die in west!! Kind of a nice movie!!
It was a better film than I expected it would be.

Hey there, just joined.....found the site while I was searching how to change the bios whitelist for hardware on my lenovo ideapad.

Battery doesn't last very long at all if you are doing anything intensive anyhow......almost have to have it plugged in to do anything worthwhile.
