After a few days I got my PCI Riser but still no effect.
Situation 1): Powered the GFX card with 500 watt PSU and Thunder 2 powered = Black screen
Situation 2): Powered PCI Riser only (Molex) + Thunder 2 powered = Windows working, but can't find the card
Situation 3): Powered the GFX card with Riser + 500 watt PSU = Black screen
Starting to get desperate at this stage..

Ok.. I'm a bit confused. What kind of Power Riser do I need? 16x? Like this one https://www.pcirisers.nl/product-informatie/16x-naar-16x-Riser-Cables/RISER-PCI-16x16x-28CM-POWERED/PCI-Express-16x-naar-16x-28CM-Molex-Powered-Riser-Cable.html ?

Check how you are powering the GTX770. Ensure you have the PCIe power connectors attached. There is also AKiTiO's own 25W slot power limitation, down from the PCIe 1.1 spec of 75W. A few cards with PCIe power are OK with only 25W but others may not be. Try a powered PCIe riser to increase that up to the 75W required and advise further.
Hey Nando,
This is my set up: I powered the Graphic card with 2x 8 pins 450 watt power unit. Used the standard AC to power the Akatio and used the Thunderbolt to my MBP 2011. No riser used still..

Update: Five AKiTiO Thunderbolt eGPU implementations so far
Now summarized in table form at http://forum.techinferno.com/diy-e-gpu-projects/7205-us%24225-akitio-thunder2-pcie-box.html#post98210 .
Same format applied also now to http://forum.techinferno.com/diy-e-gpu-projects/6578-implementations-thunderbolt-expresscard-mpcie-egpus.html#post89707 where it's also the recommended enclosure for Thunderbolt eGPU implementations and the most popular so far.
Should make it easier to home in on the important details.
6th underway! Ordered the Akitio Thunderbolt 2 and expect it 17th of september. Just a quick question, I'd like to connect the following card: MSI Gaming N770 TF 2GD5/OC G-SYNC Support GeForce GTX 770 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 SLI Support Video Card - Newegg.com (MSI GTX 770). Will this work with the Akitio TB 2?

Hi SmutjeHannes,
Thanks for replying on this topic, I'm also a MBP 2011 user (2.2 GHZ, yes you've got the better one) and was wondering if this was working. Looks like you already got it working! Just a question, did you tried to use the eGPU with Windows? I'm going to play games with it and waiting for shop respons when they ship. Thanks in advance!

You, Entzoe, are my hero!
I've been looking for this for a long time! Just a few questions:
1) Will this work with a MBP 15" (2011) model?
2) As I'm budget related: Does this work with a MSI GTX 770 2GB (MSI Global N770 TF 2GD5/OC) ?
3) Does this work with bootcamp windows?
I'm really thrilled with this experiment.. hope to get my hands on the Akitio TB box.

Hi all,
After doing some research and not choosing for the ViDock 4++ (MSI doesn't fit?!) the only option left is creating my own eGPU. I've read a couple of things about P34L / P34H but I'm not totally sure what parts I need. I'm using a MBP 15" (2011) with Thunderbolt. I'd like to connect it the same way as the ViDock by using a (overpriced) Sonnet Echo Expresscard Pro Thunderbolt.
This is my shopping list:
- Power supply
- MSI GTX 770 (MSI Global N770 TF 2GD5/OC)
- Sonnet echo Expresscard Pro TB (2.0!)
- Thunderbolt > Thunderbolt
And finally P34L / P34H (which one do I need ??) , or am I missing something?
I know I will lose performance due to the Expresscard > TB but I can live with that.
Can someone advise me on the P34L / P34H?
Kind regards,
Robin

I conneted the MBP (15 2011) with TB > Akitio (with riser + powered) > DVI / HDMI with TV and normal monitor.
