  1. hey guys this is like my 3rd post about help and stuff and black friday but since its so close, i wanted to know what exactly i should get.

alright, so the computer that I want to get would naturally cost me $1489 + tax... if im to get the computer of my choice... i need it to be $1300 or lower with tax and everything...

i was wondering if black friday for alienwares will have a 25% sale?

so anyways... now for the help on getting the rigt specs for me.

the thing im really not sure about is if i should get a i5 processor, or an i7?? so here's my situation...

    1. i DONT do alot of gaming on computers, no hardcore gaming atleast... i will probably be doing some low end games, but nothing like bf3 or anything...

    2. i would love it if my laptop stayed relatively colder and not to the hot side - ( which i heard i7's give out alot more heat than i5)

    3. i can save more money getting i5 with 8 gb 1337 ram instead of i7 with 8gb 1600 ram...

so can someone please let me know which one is better? i mean i know im sitting here and already sounding like i want an i5 instead i7 but idk...

next thing... is it worth it getting the 3gb graphics? or should i stick with 1.5... i currently chose the 1.5 but i want to know because its not customizable in the future might aswell get someone worth it now... let me know on this too?

the other specs are pretty simple so i guess i can do all that stuff... but yeah if someone can help me choose whats best for me, would be cool

    thanks

  2. hey guys, i been looking to get an m14x with practically these settings...

    i5 processor

    1.5 gb graphics

    8gb ddr3 ram

    900p screen

750 gb hard drive - or should i stick with teh 500 gb for 100$ or so less?

the wireless carrd.. idk should i get the killer one? i heard bad things about dells wireless or alienwares... so is the killer one necessary?

ok well should i get that on black friday? hopefully they will have nice sales...

or should i wait for the ivy bridge to come out? will ive bridge be able to fit into my comp? can i update my i5 sandybridge to i5 ivy bridge later? idk

    ideas please?

i heard ivy bridge is quite a bit better than sandy bridge, quad core processor... very little power usage aswell... 35W i think they made one for that... but also, that the sandybridge actually had some problems with it, and ivy bridge has all that stuff patched and pretty much its a really stable processor... idk let me knw...

  3. um i went on google, alienware coupons, a couple of links popped up and 1 was 50$ off and the other was 15% off video card upgrade and stuff so i dont lnow any others...

but ok if i do speek to a sales rep... how much can i possibly save? do i still get to design my own laptop?

how much approx. would i save in us dollars if i haggled with a sales rep? 100+ or less?

  4. ok so im looking to get this laptop, first i wanna know if for me, i am not a hardcore gamer... i am thinking of getting the i5 , and i dont know if i should ge tthe 3 gb as in a review someone said its not worth getting, because all 3gb's dont get used anyways, and 1.5 gbs is rlly good enuf for like anything...

and i mean the hardest game ill play would prolly be modern warfare 3... i dont mind using medium setting either...

ok so this thread is mainly for... does black friday also affect the discounts on the dell website? i have found a way overall so far to only save 75$ on the damn laptop, i mean is there any way to save money?

mainly want to know is there gunna be like a 5%+ discount on black friday for these things??? im not in no rush to get it... as i might be starting college on january... let me know guys please, thanks

  5. You definitely don't want a 1366x768 display on a 15.6 inch screen. The 1080p panel will use slightly more power, but the difference is negligible. You won't be able to play games on 1080p with the GPU of the XPS, but you can still lower the resolution for gaming. 1920x1080 is a very good resolution for a 15 inch screen imo, especially when browsing or having two windows open side by side.

how big is the effect on the battery?

  6. The Alienware M14x is probably the best 14 inch system out there at the moment, powerful and well built, but it's rather heavy and big for it's size. Any system with decent gaming capabilities will be heavier than regular notebooks, and it usually also has an impact on battery live.

You might also want to take a look at the XPS15, Clevo P150HM, Asus G53 or MSI GT683. All of these are pretty powerful 15-15.6 inch systems and should be good enough for 2 years. There are also more business like systems, but they usually don't have decent GPUs, though the battery life can be better of course. E.g. Lenovo systems.

that xps looks really promising... is there a big difference if i keep it with 1366 x 768

    and 1900 x 1080?

what would be so different or better about it?

will it waste more battery life?

edit: and also THANK you for helping me out very much =)

  7. Any wishes for screen size / resolution? What about battery life? Except for gaming, what will you do with the notebook, taking notes most of the time, browsing?

ummm i think the least screen size - 14 " above would be good if the battery life was good too... resolution... dont know too much about... something you think would work great for me would be fine =)

i will practically - yes be using the laptop for browsing , microsoft office , and the games that i mentioned above/ would GREATLY appreciate a QUIET laptop!!

and a WELL BUILT laptop to last me through the years... and maybe 6gb memory +? i dont really feel that 4gb is safe to say to be enough... thanks

  8. alright so, im getting ready to start college up and well i dont only want the laptop for college...

so let me start with this... im NOT a hardcore gamer, my price ceiling is 1100$, if there is a laptop well worth over that please suggest it anyways.

    games i do play :

stronghold 3 - coming out soon - doesnt require much of anything really...

runescape - ik... shutup lol, i just want something that can run a program at 1000 mb of ram throughout the night, without making any loud fan noises...

    ------------------------

so that is pretty much the gaming i do... not much...

i want a computer that will last me a really long time!! - 2 + years!!

    -----------------------

if any other info is needed pls let me know... thank you for your help!

    PLEASE NO MACBOOK PRO...

POST LINKS AND COMMENTS BEEELOW..... and also....

is this worth getting with the current specs it has?
