Just remove on EFI partition file .VolumeIcon.icns
Can't seam to find this icns file? Is that on EFI volume that was used for this tweak? Sorry for so many basic question in this thread, but I am no expert on this.

Thanks man, that worked! Do you know how to get back Win disk icon on boot chime. I still have nvidia logo with "Boot Efi" instead of "Win 8.1"
-
I see. Do you know when I try to restore EFI I get this;
While attaching EFIBackup.dmg: /dev/disk2 /Volumes/EFI 1
I'm getting: ditto: can't get real path for source '/Volumes/EFIBackup'

Thanks! Tho I have late 13" rMBP 2013 I can't get the internal screen working, will try with this EFI tweak.

But do you need external screen to make this switch? My internal screen is blank a soon as I choose Win 8.1 partition from boot screen.

I would also ask if anyone can reupload OPTIMUS.dmg file. Thanks in advance ;-)

I used Winclone to install boot camp partition to the secondary HDD on my Mac mini. Don't let your Mac to go sleep mode during the process if you decide to try. It supports EFI and PCs and I think there was also an option to convert Windows partition to EFI. You can check more info from their web site Winclone (it's not free, but very useful to transfer windows partitions).
I see. The problem is that my PC does not support EFI (at least to my knowledge), so I don't know if migrating Win8 from it would work. I cant find the guide to convert Win8 to EFI via Winclone. I should be getting pcie riser today, so will try with that first and see how it goes. I also tried plugging in thunderbolt cable several times while windows was booting to overcome black screens, but unfortunately that didn't work either, the card was not detected by the system.

d0bb had a similar problem that the both internal and external screens were black, but I got a private message that Windows now works. I advised him to use Winclone as he had the working partition already on the external usb drive. Not sure if he found other ways around the black screen problem.
Thanks! Tho I don't have a working Win 8.1 with Nvida drivers preinstalled. Does Winclone provide EFI restore? I can make PC installation which has old Nvidia GTX 260 card installed and then clone the disk to rMBP?

Is this what I suspect it is, the backside 16X PCIe interface of the Akitio board (plus smaller daughter board beside)?
If so, one can clearly see it pins, so soldering some cables would be piece of cake.
Anyone got around this yet. Have received my MSI GTX 760 ITX, but it appears it needs additional power as I get black screen on boot thus I cant install Nvidia drivers. Ordered pcie powered raiser, but would like to have it inside AkiTio enclosure. I am no good with electriacal modding, thus I dont't know what/where/how to deliver power via soldering directly to board (pins marked on the picture).

If this are 80 x 80 x 15 fans, I would highly recommend Noiseblocker BlackSilentPRO Fan PC-P8, they still pushes decent amount of air, yet they are silent. I have used one of this to replace the loud fan in Silverstone 450W SFX PSU and I cant hear the fan spinning.

I agree, it looks neat, but way overpriced against AKiTio. The size of the chassis could also be smaller as it has quite an unused space.
-
@umax can you post a picture of HDPLEX power supply inside the Akitio Box? I'm curious what is the difference of size between the two and how much space is required for the HDPLEX to fit in.
Thank you.
I will. In the meantime, I have changed my mind (+ I need founds for GPU) and I will be using normal ATX psu that I have left over from other build, so anyone interested into cheap combo of new HDPLEX 250W PSU + new Dell PA-9E 240W power adapter, let me know.
-
Just to note, I have HDPLEX 250W (with PA-9E) and Akitio TB2 box, and the PSU does not fit inside the box! I am still waiting for MSI GTX760 ITX gpu tho. Will post worklog when done.
Also, I have ordered 7.4 x 5.0 barrel female to 4pin pcie cable (to eliminate small pcb with DC connector that came with HDPLEX psu) and 5.5 x 2.5 male barrel to 4pin IDE Molex to power Akitio board (eliminating the extra psu).

2014 Macbook Pro Retina 15" Iris GPU only model.
AKITIO Thunderbolt PCIE Box.
2M Apple Thunderbolt cable.
X16 toX16 riser with molex connector .
Corsair RM550 PSU.
MSI N760 2GD5/OC ITX.
ATX Power switcher.
Windows 8.1 EFI installation + Bootcamp driver.
Very simple step:
1 All parts connect together.
2 Power on PSU (AKITIO Box power is supplied by X16 riser molex connector, No need original power adapter).
3 Power on Macbook pro.
4 Start windows.
5 Install driver
6 Well done.
When you starting windows internal LCD auto off.
Intel iris gpu auto power down when starting windows (Cant find iris 5200 in device manager).
Restart windows no need power off PSU,Nothing to do, start windows egpu auto detect.
Can you please try MSI 760 GTX without powered riser cable. I think it should work, since 670 draws max. 170W and has 8pin pcie connector which supply 150W + 25W from Akitio pci-e slot.
Also interested if Optimus is working. I would be really grateful if you can test this, since I am debating which GPU to order.

Thanks! But the restore of orginal EFI is not perfect/complete, I still see the GRUB message when booting Windows, even tho there is no error. And at boot chime the partition was renamed to "Boot EFI" insted of "Windows 8.1". Can this be even "repaired" or I need new bootcamp installation?
