Haven't checked in on a while.
Is it still not possible to use GTX 970+ rMBP 15" Late 13,iris pro with external monitor on OSX Yosemite?
-
Thanks alot, goalque.
But is there any reason for me to use egpu on OSX at all if I cant use ext.monitor?

WebDriver-343.01.03b01 should work on 10.10.1. Edit the NVDAStartup.kext to version <string>14B25 instead of 14C</string> and run "sudo kextcache -system-caches".
Where do I do this?
I see nowhere it says 14B25.
EDIT: I managed to do it!
It gets recognized now, although its a bummer it wont connect to external with hdmi.

EVGA GTX 970
IRIS PRO 2013 Late MBPr

Yes, and I have installed 343.01.02f03..
This is very weird. No kext loaded it says..
-
Yes, it is enabled.
And when I open the web driver via settings, it says that it`s not compatible etc etc.

ignore, double post...

Yea, thx, I tried with external screen + a little OC, and my score is tons better.
Here's my full setup:rMBP 15" Late 2013 with iGPU (5200), i7-4750HQ 2.0 CPU, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD
Akitio Thunder2 enclosure + supplied Thunderbolt2 cable
GTX 970 EVGA SC
16x to 16x Powered Riser
600W PSU
Bootcamp Windows 8.1
NVidia Optimus providing accelerated internal LCD mode
-
Its just the graphics score that is low..
Ive tried changing PSU + TB cable now, but its still like that..
The GPU doesnt reach 80celsius even, so I dont really know what the problem is..
Will changing to UEFI help??
-
Hello.
I just finished my setup, but I'm seeing low gpu scores on 3dmark firestrike etc.
I get 7300, while most of you are getting 8,5k + with the same setup.
Does anyone know the problem?
Here's my full setup (Im using internal retina screen)
GTX 970 EVGA SC
16x to 16x Powered Riser
rMBP 15" Late 2013 with iGPU (5200)
Akitio Thunder2 PciE solution
600W PSU
1. Does UEFI windows affect performance? I have bootcamp windows. Will changing to UEFI improve my performance at all?
2. Im using the TB cable from Akitio. Will changing it to apple official 2meter affect my performance?
-
Alright, sounds good!
I tried method 2 today, but the gpu always crash when I enter games etc.
Is this because the akitio cant supply enough power? i get driver crash + bsod.

Hmm, you're not using a riser with the gtx 780?
Do you think I could do the same with a gtx 970?
-
Do you think I can power the GPU up without a riser? My riser will arrive in 1 week, but my other parts will arrive on saturday.
With DC jack, do you mean akitios?
-
ah brilliant! i was not to sure what i was doing to be honest. but wanted to get my temps down. i will try them settings out and the benchmarks when i get a chance. thanks for the guidance.
also just to note. the powered riser is not required with my EVGA GTX970 FTW. nor does the Thunder2 unit require a power source. it seems that the 2x6 pin pci-e power cables that plug into the top of my graphics card actually power the whole rig. and i have noticed my setup turns off on shutdown and starts on power up. where as before with my gtx760 the fans would spin until the psu was manually switched off.
wow is this true? So you can connect the EVGA directly to the akitio, with only the 2x6 pin powering it? That's amazing if that's the case.
Do you think this will work with the normal gtx 970 from evga? Or only FTW?
And what psu do you have?
-
Is the thunderbolt cable that comes with the Akitio good enough?
Or should I buy apple's oficial ?
-
Sounds good.
Also, is the thunderbolt cable that comes with akitio good? Or should i buy the one frmo apple?
-
What brand GPU do I need to buy if I want to use the internal screen?
I'm thinking about the gtx 970, or 980. I think I read somewhere that I had to have EVGA. Is that true?
-
Which 16x to 16x PCiE Powered risers did you buy?
I find multiple versions on ebay with capacitators etc.
-
Does it work internally?
-
Can you use the akitio to run on the internal screen? (retina mac lcd)
-
Is it possible to use the internal LCD? Would take advantage of the retina screen.
-
is it possible to use a powered riser to avoid issues with the 25w rating?

I'm running a MBPr late 2k13 15".
EVGA GTX 970 + Akitio.
When I first got it, I didn't have a riser, and the GPU would boot me in, no problems etc. But it crashed every single time I tried a game.
I used two PSU's (550W psu for gpu, and one for the akitio)
After I got a riser, the problem stopped, and now I'm only using the 550W psu.
So in my case, the riser is 100% essential.
