  1. Did someone succesfully recovered the y580 (with default bios v 8.00 5DCN89WW) ? I am aware that andys tool will give you the recovery name but mine backup file gives a giberish name in andys tool. The recovery metod is working (aka fan full usb reading...) but no file is accepted (QIWY3 QIWY4 even the one for z580 qiwg5)

I have been trying for over a month to recover my 8.00 bios to no avail, I still randomly try different file names if I have the will to do it.

  2. I can verify that the v2.0x mod works with my wife's Y580, I have yet to try the v8.01 on my own Y580 though.

8.01 was working on mine for a few months now but a week or so back my laptop stopped POSTing. I had stock 8.01 before flashing the modded one. Still trying to figure out the recovery method though to restore to the original bios.

  3. Does anybody know where the cmos battery is located exactly? I flashed the 8.01 modded bios a few months back and haven't had any trouble. But I went into standby yesterday and now I cannot get it to boot back up, no POST or anything.

    *EDIT*

I found the cmos battery after opening up all the components, shorted it and made no difference. I have been trying the insyde recovery methods but it does not seem to accept the files I throw at it, like QIWY3.bin.

  4. Hi!

New user here with Lenovo Y580. Recently I've been trying to get intel RST technology to work with no success.

Before I did anything to the laptop I created a restore flash drive to make sure I can restore the system to original if anything goes wrong.

I than formatted my two drives (750GB HDD + 16GB ssd) and installed the OS on the HDD. I made sure in that AHCI mode is on.

After the installation completed I installed RST drivers and no acceleration option available meaning no chaching.

From what I under stand from reading here and from searching the web RAID mode must be enabled.

Does any one have any experience regarding that issue?

Is installing the unlocked bios is my only option for getting RST caching to work?

    Many thanks

I haven't been able to get RST to work, but I did manage to get express cache to work. This is on a clean windows 8.1 installation.
