  1. I sold my W230SS to friend, and he doesnt like to tweak anything. Stock bios would be nice but last time i flashed it broke ethernet. Got some error messages from bios on boot. Cant remember was that stock bios from clevo or from prema. is the EC different between these or something? And then theres the black screen bug which is annoying.

  2. I have the WQHD. And have no screen backlight (black screen) when i set non UEFI settings in the BIOS. With BIOS set to UEFI boit i have a normal piture during bootup, can enter the BIOS without problems.

Anyway - with non UEFI settings the HDMI is working with external LCDs. So that is my workaround after for example a BIOS reset which sets by default the non UEFI Boot mode.

I'm using Windows 7 so non-uefi mode. :( Maybe Windows 9 when it comes.

  3. Any news of new biosmod version for the w230ss? It has the no-picture on warm boot bug.

So there's no problem on FHD-panels because nobody isn't compaining. :) There was somebody else with wqhd panel who has the same problem...

Was quite exciting when I made raid and restored windows installation. :blue:

  4. I've installed teh Hotkey from Clevo and didn't noticed that. But what took my attention was that running an specific benchmark on OpenGL did the fans goes crazy and noisy... switching the benchmark to D3D the W230SS sustained a very low noise and almost no fan actions... looks like a NVIDIA driver issue... I dont know.

    Anymore else noticed that?

Well, that fan is controlled by bios, nothing else. Reason for that behaviour is maybe that your vsync is on, on the other test and vsync off on other. If vsync is off, gpu will be hotter.

  5. Hey guys, :)

I am on the way home, with a brand new W230SS and WQHD screen in the luggage!

The Prema Mod project will soon get my attention back... ;)

OT: My friend with cancer is getting better each day, THX to all your good wishes and prayers. :)

P.S.: Left my trusted W230ST with a friend in Germany, if anyone there or in rest of Europe is looking for one, just PM me.

    Great! :);):)

  6. This keeps dGPU usable on battery, and with geforce "battery boost" it gives full performance which is quite awesome. I can play grid autosport or metro: last light on battery but it drains really fast and becomes extremely hot, scary...

I can live with that 1.4ghz limit on cpu but hd graphics 400mhz is just too low.

by the way, few reboots and windows is now shutting down normally and intel xtreme tuning utility works. dont know what happened...

  7. Well, I had this issue on a P170SM-A and on a P170EM, both laptop are runnin only on AC and I removed the battery (I have a UPS).

Try to remove the hotkey, use the maximum performance profile in power options and also use this tool to lift some limitation : https://bitsum.com/about_cpu_core_parking.php

Let me know if you see the differences, but on my case I did some a huge improvement.

    N3ST

Uninstalled hotkey, didnt help a bit. CPU clock still down to 1.4ghz and intel hd graphics clock down to 400mhz. Installed hotkey back and now intel xtreme tuning utility isnt working anymore and windows doesnt shutdown anymore, halts at shutting down. Shit.

  8. System performance will decrease drastically on battery. This is supposed to happen because a battery simply cannot put out enough power to run the system at full speed.

Hotkey does not cause any performance issues for me on a P150EM.

But i'm quite sure that on battery it's not about power when intel hd graphics doesn't use turbo anymore.

  9. Hello Guys,

Fater testing the modded bios from Prema a few month and also the Modded vbios for my 880m gtx everyhting is zorking fine.

I also found something really interesting for all the clevo user :

If you want maximum performance with you clevo please do not use the hotkey from clevo, I will epxlain why:

When installing the Hotkey it is asking you to reboot in order to finish to install it, why? : Because it reboot to load the newly installed driver for the hotkey.

After playing for a while with the hotkey manager I was not able to have the same gaming performance as when I was not using it, and I tried for hours to firgure out why, I was change the profile to maximum performance or game mode with no effect.

I was searching everywhere and optimizing windows 8.1 like made, the drivers were already update to date.

Then I uninstall the hotkey, and the issue was gone, instead of a 140 watt limitation I was able to use the full power of the laptop around 180 to 190 watt, no lags in game everything was working fine.

All of the component are using the default clock.

Please try on your side and let me know how it is, as this was a really strange issue.

I also have a question for you Prema, have you seen new stock bios for the clevo P17xSM-A?

The weekend is coming at last.

    N3ST

Interesting... Do you think it is the same with W230SS? On AC I think it's at full power, clocks stay high, no lags and so. But on battery, CPU maxes @1.4GHz and Intel HD Graphics loses it's turbo which is annoying because with AC it runs old games quite good.

  10. I have the WHQD screen and on prema mod the same effect... The internal WQHD is dark during boot if you have not set "UEFI Boot" in bios. You can connect an external HDMI display and get into BIOS that way when you are in non UEFI mode. I have already reported that to Prema. Maybe he can fix it once his W230SS WQHD has arrived.

I use the non QHD+ Prema Bios version. and have Win8.1 in UEFI. So i'm fine with it. As long as i do no BIOS reset. After BIOS reset (non uefi is set by default) i need an external LCD to access BIOS and set it back to Uefi.

Yes, so we have the same problem. So waiting for fix. Anyway, thanks to Prema for this great bios!

  11. If your system is set to UEFI there won't be any options displayed to enter BIOS, just the Prema logo and Windows loading screen, that's normal.

I'm not using UEFI, Windows 7 64bit. If I explain this way, there is no backlight in laptop screen until windows desktop. It's dead, nothing, blanko. Only I can see is blinking harddisk led. Am I really the only experiencing this?

  12. Take a look here, BIOS Mod has all required options like "Cfg Lock" for OS X:

    Tutorials | Prema Mod

    Tested image: MD5: 6179a219e1bf7634fb321fabb8d3288d

SM and SM-A are two different motherboards. SM-A is the newer refresh and v1 Mod is the latest Mod. :)

Are you sure that you have the old P177SM and not P177SM-A? You may have flashed the wrong package...

(This may brick systems, so EVERYONE please make sure to check properly what model you have (all info directly in the original F2 BIOS menu) before flashing anything).

If your screen is WQHD (2560x1440) then you need to use the QHD version of the Mod. ;)

    I did use QHD-version.

I cant get picture whenever restarting, sometimes i get picture when i shutdown and turn on. i always get picture when i shutdown computer, pull battery out, press power button to drain all power, battery back, power on.

Is there anything to do with processor whics clocks dramatically down while on battery? Especially hd graphics clocks down to 400MHz and windows aero gets sluggish, and even old games doesnt run. But when I plug AC then hd graphics runs older games nicely. Of course geforce will run anything on battery...

  13. Just got my XMG P304 and not sure which bios to use? There is W230SS with QHD and no-QHD. My screen is 2560x1440.

EDIT: found my answer here: W230SS / NP7338 | Prema Mod

EDIT2: Flashed bios and now I get picture only in windows, nothing on boot, and bios setup, screen stays black. Not even windows boot logo.

EDIT3: Sometimes black, sometimes not, strange.

Anyone having this problem that I cant get no picture on boot?

Now flashed back stock bios and this problem fixed. But now it says every boot PXE-01: PCI-vendor and device id's do not match. And I lost my LAN adapter.

This is getting annoying, mod bios: no picture on boot, stock bios: no lan adapter. fuck.

  14. As I understand, you have used modded bios from slv which included internal gpu bios. What about bios which is in gpu/ultrabay itself? I of course cannot change temperature control because it seems I could not find 2nd GPU modded bios for 755m card. Could you point to the exact thread where you found it?

    Here: http://forum.techinferno.com/lenovo-ibm/4668-lenovo-y410p-y510p-unlocked-bios-wlan-whitelist-mod-vbios-mod.html#post65200

But, just noticed that you have 755m, not 750m like i do. Dont know if it matters, because only difference is clocks...

  15. I used ocz freeze. There is pads for gpu memory chips.

One trick is to lift laptops back up from the table. Gets much better air from below and stays cooler.

  16. dj_pirtu, did you downgraded from 3.05 bios to 1.09 unlocked stright, or 3.05->2.07[stock]->1.09[stock]->1.09[unlocked] ? Can you run windows 8.1 with SLI with that bios? Btw, where did you find sli-gpus unclocked BIOS btw ?

And what undervoltage value did you use for your GPUs ?

This was bought last august so bios was 1.09 stock. All I did was read bios, mod, flash it back. And for the sli-gpu I flashed already modded bios from this thread.

Those graphics cards can not be undervolted directly, but, the trick is to use that temperature control in nvidiainspector AND overclock same time. Then the card will use lower voltage to stay under temperature limit and overclocking will compensate the lower clocks that this temperature limit will make.

  17. There was something about fan in unlocked bios but i havent examined it yet.

So, now running unlocked 1.09 bios and sli-gpus unlocked too. Got my temps down quite easy:

    1. From Intel Xtreme Tuning utility, undervoltage CPU -100mv, and frequencys set 4 cores 2,9ghz, 3 cores 3,0, 2 3,1ghz and 1 3,0ghz

    2. For both the gpus, nvidiainspector is the answer. :) lower the max. temp from 96'c to 80'c. And with overclock you can compensate that temp (and clock) lowering thing. So i got gpu boost 150mhz and memory 200mhz. Gpu stays below 80'c because of undervoltage.

    Sorry my bad english....

  18. I think FarCry1 was the best game for me in 2004. Waited FarCry2 but disappointed, how they could made that game so boring... FarCry3 was even better than the first one.

And i dont think that the short time between 3 and 4 is a problem, they have techical side already done, mayne its just some tweaking here and there for better graphics but story is new.

Never played that FarCry3 "DLC", Blood Dragon. Any good?

  19. Hi!

New member here and lots of questions. Just bought an Y510p and been struggling with high temps so far. Crysis3 just melts the whole thing. :D

But, with battery, is there any way to do something for the very bad gpu-performance? Even a little? Of course full performance cant be done. The old powermizer tool doesnt work anymore.
