  1. This Prolimatech PK-1 is what i want to try next. I heard that this is really good when properly applied, but not at it's best when the pasting job isn't that good. Anyone experience this on the PK-1?

PK-1 is pretty gosh darn amazing, honestly. I use it in places where you might not have 'perfect' contact between a component and a heatsink/water block/etc (Like for testing or DIY stuff, or when you don't have access to a good mill or dremel or whatever). I've not seen a better compound in that type of environment.

Best part? You can get a big ol 5g tube for about 10$ USD, which should be enough to practically redo every dang everything in your whole house. Seriously...

  2. If you enjoyed Bioshock infinite, have you played any of the others? I still think the first one stands head and shoulders above the others.

Looking for similar scary stuff? Heck, try the Dead Space series.

Want to see the spiritual 'ancestor' to both Bioshock and Dead Space? Look up System Shock... A much older game, but many folks have put out mods, including HD mods.

Are you more into action-y titles, or RPG type stuff?

  3. Out of curiosity, is the matte version 'dim' in any way? I picked one up a while back and ended up swapping back to the glossy (16f2 model) because the plastic was slightly darker somehow (ie: lightly smoked or something).

I'd rather go matte, but the 'tint' really annoyed me.

Can you post what version you've eventually gone with? Thanks!

  4. 1. The card has to be from Clevo not just for Clevo.

    2. Use 0.5mm quality pads like phobya 7w/mk or shin etsu.

    3. No BIOS flashing required.

    4. Do a power drain, maybe use ESD mat and bracelet.

Well, I got it in fine, thanks for your help.

Ran into problems with it not recognizing the hardware. Ended up finding someone else's similar issue on this, and found a link that allowed me to install nvidia drivers, but I'm assuming there is some weird 'issue' with Nvidia, as the website and the geforce experience, and even the 'autodetect' on nvidia all say that I need new drivers, but the drivers they download can't find valid hardware.

TL;DR: Got it to work with a modified inf, probably have to flash the card with a new bios to avoid this whole rigamarole with hunting down new INF's every time a new driver version comes out. Any suggestions on a bios to use? ( Found this: http://forum.techinferno.com/general-notebook-discussions/1847-nvidia-kepler-vbios-mods-overclocking-editions-modified-clocks-voltage-tweaks.html ) but I'm not sure if that's what I need, plus I think I'm still too new of a user to be allowed access to any download links.

If it will help anyone, let me know if you need me to post what/how I did the swap. It was pretty gosh-darned simple once I read the directions a few times.

  5. Hi all,

I've got a similar issue as soe of the folks in here.

Basically, I've got an MSI GT780 DX-406US. It's based on the MS-1761. It originally had a 570m, but it has basically given up the ghost (can't play anything, random full system freezes during 3D gaming, but not during any 3D testing or benchmarking). I love this dang thing, so I'm trying to get it back up and running, and read somewhere else that the card could not only be replaced, but replaced with an 'upgrade'.

Some heavy googling and this forum popped up. I have been taking extensive notes, but I'm still a little leery of making the jump on this purchase (400$ sounds like a ton of money to spend on something that might not even work).

    Some questions:

1.) Will this card work? It says it's for the clevo. New NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770M 3GB DDR5 MXM 3 0 Type B for Clevo Alienware MSI | eBay

2.) What is the suggestion for the cooling on this? I keep eharing about thermal pads (I'm used to just thermal paste so I feel like a noob here), but does anyone have an actual recommendation?

3.) Should I expect to have to update my laptop's bios, the card's bios, or both? Is there anything I can do to prepare for this (like flashing the bios now instead of when I get the card)?

4.) Is there any other advice i should take on swapping this card out?

Any/all help is greatly appreciated. And if I would be better off starting a new post, please let me know.
