  1. Very interested in this as I think this is key to making my fans stop running incessantly after I play a game. Has anyone actually tried using thermal pads on it? Size? Brand and results? I'm going to go out and buy some tomorrow and will post my results, any experience would be appreciated

    - looking at this right now:

    http://www.frozencpu.com/products/23144/thr-233/Alphacool_Double-Sided_Thermal_Adhesive_Pad_-_15mm_x_15mm_x_05mm_12097.html

  2. Hi everyone, I've been looking at tons of threads and getting mixed results when trying to find the correct way to force flash the bios. Some say to rename the file I want to flash to M14R2.hdr where others say to name it M14R2.fd and then I found a recovery thread that says to name it

    PALB0x64.fd

    here's that thread:

    http://forum.techinferno.com/alienware-m14x-aw-14/1330-bios-reset-recovery-possible.html

so that makes me think it must depend on the type of bios I'm trying to force flash. Basically the problem is I was on bios A08 stock and tried to go to a08 unlocked (by force flashing) from this thread:

    http://forum.techinferno.com/alienware-m14x-aw-14/1426-%5Btested-working%5D-m14x-%2Aunlocked%2A-bios-a07-a08.html

got the beeps, it rebooted and it just stayed on a black screen. Now it will only turn on and just sit there. I've tried pulling CMOS battery and letting sit there and get the same results so I'm trying to figure out how to get this back to working condition. Could use some help if you have ideas

  3. I have to agree with itsmattgw. My fan seems to always be blowing and I'm worried this will eventually burn the fan out. Load defaults in bios still doesn't seem to stop the fan from continuing to blow constantly. I've tried disabling turbo mode and intel speed step to see if this would make any difference, but still the same results. Anyone else noticing this issue? I'm running both Windows 8.1 pro and Mavericks (10.9.1). When I was on A03 unlock bios I didn't run into this issue. Any advise or feed back would be much appreciated.

I tried downgrading my bios to ao8, same thing. Tomorrow I'm going to put some Arctic Silver 5 paste on my cpu and graphics gpu and see if that helps, I'll update when I see the results. In the meantime I've found a great workaround with this program here :

Unofficial AW fan control - Alienware User Support

it lets you set the temperature thresholds for when the fans come on. I've found that I can tone my fan speeds down to 1500 rpm and it's almost completely silent but at the same time keeps my temperatures hovering below 55. You can set all the thresholds so once it reaches 55 it will automatically go to whatever RPMS you want it to in order to cool it back down. Definitely worth the download

  4. This isn't a bash or anything. I just purchased a new laptop the other day (a really nice Toshiba Satellite) for around $750. It plays everything I can throw at it (highest settings) thus far, so what would be the benefit of using an Alienware laptop when I can pay so much less and get pretty much the same amount? Just curious is all.

You'd need to run benchmarks to compare the two systems to see that they're not in the same league. The toshiba may be just what you need, but for higher end games it probably wouldn't float it.

  5. hello, tell them , recently followed all the guide due to the problem of throttling the gpu to downgrade to version a03 bios of the m14x r2, what do by recovery on pen drive usb with the corresponding file that uploaded the friend svl7 moderator and passing it to format. hdr all did exactly what they said svl7 guides and other users.

The machine will restart with the end button and connect it caught adapter with the fan to maximum, then made many beeps , and then restart a few minutes after there NOTHING step freezada he stayed , no keys worked or caps or button -ignition alien face . I had to pull the battery to turn it off , the whole disarmament to make a clean cmos and nothing.

I have to change the bios chip? the function that will do it? or you have to change the whole mother ? which I think is crazy, because the error is in the bios Chiop surely ?

someone who can send me a bios chip programmed with the alienware m14x r2 a03 to please? I pay of course , but really give me a little help because that was not what happened , I did everything as the verbatim .

Svl7 if these out there, can you help me ? I saw on ebay sold bios for this notebook model but I also read that they are a scam , I recommend if you can do it with the theme of the bios I ask because I see that you're someone serious and trustworthy.

    THANKS! !

    I am VERY SAD , VERY ! ! : (

I live in the country to have a alienware muchooo have to work with me 2 weeks of using this happens: S

I had the same thing happen to me, I think it should be a sticky on this board to not force flash the bios from A08 or A09 down to A03. I had to get my motherboard replaced because of this, the same thing happened...heard the beeps, then sat there, had to unplug the battery and got nothing..no power etc. Good luck

  6. Hi everyone, I just had the MB replaced on my mx14 R2 and now the fan seems to be always running at about med speed. Before it couldn't even be heard when browsing the internet and doing low load type of stuff. the MB came with A13 on it, my previous had A08 so I downgraded to that, same thing. I've reset my bios settings to default, same thing. Is the CPU integrated on this? If not I'm thinking the putty may not have been applied correctly or something but I'm open to ideas. thanks

  7. Has anyone noticed any issues with their hardware? Meaning hardware damage with overclocking their m14x r2?

There's a thread here http://forum.techinferno.com/alienware-m14x-aw-14/2061-%5Bm14x-r2%5D-unlocked-bios-versions.html where people were overclocking this sytem a long time ago, might be better to ask there since they've had time to test it. But you can download afterburner which will show your temps and the general rule is that as long as your temps don't go too high then you're not doing damage to your system.

  8. I know this is an old thread but I wanted to give a heads up. I had had bios version A09 on my MX14R2 and tried to force flash it to a stock Dell bios A03 by downloading the A03 version from the Dell website, putting to a fat 32 formatted USB and then renaming it to m14R2.hdr. I plugged it in (left USB port) and held the end key then plugged in the AC adapter, got beeps for about 2-3 minutes then it sat on a black screen for over twenty minutes (I let it sit because I didn't want to shut it down). I knew it was toast when it was sitting there, I couldn't shut it of by holding the power button I had to open it up and unplug the battery and afterwards received no power whatsoever to the system, nothing. I got a motherboard replacement and that resolved the issue - not fun. I wouldn't recommend anyone trying to downgrade to an A03 from A09 because I'm pretty sure I did it just right and it failed.
