Do I need to flash NVIDIA GeForce GT750M Second VGA BIOS Update for Windows 8.1 (64-bit) - IdeaPad Y400, Y500 after flashing this modded bios ?

Planning to go SLi after flashed the modded bios.

Yes, you'll have to flash ultrabay card just as well.

Also if you're planning to overclock cards - be warned that there's no modded BIOS for ultrabay card, so SLI will not work on windows 8.1.

Surprisingly enough, I already had SLI configuration set with 8.1 a while back. I have SLI still and have been running all my games no problem with both video cards set. I'm good to go.

Did you flash ultrabay GPU with stock lenovo BIOS beforehand?

Weird, because I took a chance and I'm running the flashed bios on 8.1. it's working great. So for anyone else out there who has this same question. They WILL work on 8.1 and I'm on my newly flashed laptop confirming this.

Apparently as soon as you update drivers - SLI will be turned off and you wont be able to turn it on again, you'll need to flash it over and over again.

So i've read through the forums now and there were a lot of requests for updated bios on several different topics for 8.1 750M versions of the y500. Were the bios downloads on the 1st post updated for this to work with 8.1? I still can't find confirmation. Thanks!

No, they are not updated and wont work with 8.1.

Its disabled on a hardware level, there's no info on it in both original and modded BIOS.

I'm new to the forum and to the thread. I've modified my Y500 because Lenovo is no help. I have Windows 8.1 Pro with few Lenovo drivers to have a clean slate on a 1TB SSD.

I am currently irritated to NO END with this flipping factory wireless card and I've ordered the Intel 7260AC card from amazon. I had a few questions, after reading though a ton of pages, I felt that could be answered quickly by everyone here that has experience.

First off, my thanks goes to svl7 for providing this type of fix for Lenovos crappy everything. I will be donating to you as soon as I get my first paycheck from my new job.

Questions:

1) Has the issue with jaxst losing his charging ability happened to anyone else?

2) Can someone confirm that the Y500 - Y400 - SLI 750m - 80.07.9D.00.11 - OC.zip will work on windows 8.1?

3) I've seen some bluetooth errors with windows 8.1 for some users, has this been resolved in the newest edition of bios?

4) svl7, could I per'chance inspire you by donation to make a youtube how to/troubleshooting video for the community and others who like me, like to visually see and learn how to do things? If another person would like to do a video with the newest bios for the 750SLI Y500, I would def. donate for the addition to the community.

3) Not using bluetooth, so cant comment on that.

4) You better PM svl7 with your offer directly since he's not browsing those threads often. Also I dont think you can mess up anything if you follow instructions carefully. Well, if you are not an experienced PC user then probably you can.

You can safely flash, no need to worry about settings, just dont touch them if you dont understand what they're for.

All you need to do is to get working usb flash with proper windows image and install it on your new ssd, everything'll be fine after.

Its definitely something with usb then. And if the usb device working correctly and usb boot is enabled then it will be present in the boot priority for sure.

Have you tried booting up HDD without any mSata drives?

This is my second fresh install that's inexplicably bricked itself after some months, and that's in addition to all the other quirks I've put up with over the past 2 years. I'm officially done with Windows 8 forever. I can understand why M$ is abandoning this POS. Full steam ahead for Windows 9. Hopefully it's any good, but I'm not counting on it.

It looks nice and all, but you uncovering more and more pitfalls when spending time with it, its ridiculous. Even reminded me the horror times with millenium...

I had exactly the same problem a month ago, bought crucial mSata ssd, and got that atheros error.

First try to put your hdd first in the boot priority list, if it doesnt work then probably boot sector on hdd is fucked and you need to re-install OS.

If you want to boot from usb also make sure usb boot is enabled and your usb device is on top in the boot priority list. After thi is done you should be able to boot from usb and install OS, if not, try your usb device on another pc/laptop - probably something is wrong with device itselfs or rather with OS image on it.

I also purchased single card Y500, bought second from there. Site looks shitty and untrustworthy, but at least delivers :>

Nah I upgraded to Windows 7.

I said "fuck it" and did the same two weeks ago. Tried to solve somehow, but when I learned about VSYNC bug I was 100% positive to move back on 7.

You flashed your 650M Ultrabay vBIOS with the modded 80.07.27.00.33 in the OP? Does SLI work for you in Window 8.1? I thought it doesn't?

There's another bios mode made by Klem, it does work in W8.1.

2.02 bios is for core/memory overclocking, 2.04 lest you overclock voltage as well.

It does work with 8.1, however you need to flash SLI card with new bios, found somewhere in this thread.

Be warned that 8.1 is extremely buggy os and doesnt work well with SLI and y500 model in general. Well, if plan to play games on it.

I had the same issue, although it was on Windows 7 and with single 650 during games, it just switched to P8 at random times and stayed there. Cured it with 2.04 modded bios.

Though I still have no clue what could potentially cause this, may it be lenovo stock bios, ultrabay card bios or some power settings. The only thing I know for sure is that without overclocking - this machine sucks.

It appears to be a Windows 8.1 conflict with this machine.

So what I suggest in your case:

1) Check your PSU, it must be 120W, otherwise its a no go with SLI.

2) Flash to 2.04 bios (its not hard at all just follow instructions on the first page).

3) Test all this on Windows 8.1.

Try unplugging all drives from your laptop and see it changes anything during boot.

There's a "Load Optimized Defaults" option in EXIT menu.

Just dont forget to set "Legacy Support" after loading defaults and set your OS drive on top of the list.

So the problem is that VSYNC option in all my games is working totally different in Windows 7 and 8.1.

In Windows 7 it working like it should be - limiting frame rate to the screen refresh rate (60Hz in my case).

But in Windows 8.1 its limiting GPU usage and randomly cuts frames to 40 or 48 for instance, instead of 50 or 55 with 99-100% GPU usage.

Single render mode doesnt change anything.

Can please somebody with the same machine confirm that this is an actual thing?

I think thats because this game isnt demanding at all. I played it on Intel graphic processor locked at 60 fps, so for even single 650M I doubt its even an issue.

Maybe if you play something more demanding this will occur.
