  1. Y2K oh my we are doomed :0 all our electronics will reset to year 0 ahhhhhh hahaha

exactly.. and this BS doesn't even have a reliable source of information to stand on. Someone misinterpreted something about a civilization thousands of years ago and since there's nothing else worse going on in the world, the media empire took it and ran.

  2. Sometime soon this year all existing modles will be discontinued and the models with ivybridge will be sold... If you buy now at one price you could have bought the next version for same price just a few months at most from now. ;)

thanks for indulging an old-geek who was too lazy to google around on what's up. I can definitaly wait a few months.

  3. im sure you can find the 6990m's for much less real soon since 7000 series is upon us :) Welcome back

I'm sure you're right. Heck you can find 920XM's for <$300 these days, but The R2 sits on the kitchen counter anymore, I think my chances of throwing more money into it for a processor and graphics cards is about as good as looking at a M14x or razer blade right now.

  4. At this point in time it's hard to recommend an upgrade. With the the R2 refresh in the air, it's really up to you.

If you can wait 2-3 months i'd recommend waiting to check out what the M14x-R2 is bringing to the table.

A safe bet would be to assume ivy bridge refresh + the NVIDIA card refresh, would you wait ? :)

Care to elaborate? I searched around a bit and came up empty handed. Saw one of these at the retail location in the mall and I'm having dirty thoughts.

  5. Sup man, long time no see. Yep they got 6990s working in the M17x-R2 but you won't need that much power for ME3 since its basically a console port.

OMG really? LOL that was just a joke... wow, that's epic. I'm sure they run ~ a grand for a pair though.

    How's that caddy handle?

like a track-prepped pig with racing shoes. :D

I broke down after my last autocross event and bought a Hero 2, so next time, I'll have some actual video of all the sliding around... I mean, handling, yes.... handling.

  6. it would make sense that it's something trifling like a driver issue. Clearly in some cases I can get very near the advertised speed, and yet in other's it will crawl. Mine also will burst high and will continue to trickle down. Going from the SD to the SSD it can be as high as 200+mb/s, but it'll finish out at 20. Yet when going the other way, it's a constant 10-11.5mb/s. I'd use the cable for the Hero2, but it's even worse, I think it must have a USB 1.1 controller or something, it snails along at 2.5-3mb/s

  7. So.. I have a nice fancy 32GB class 10 45mb/s sandisk card for the hero2. When i popped it into the R2 I noted that moving the 4GB video I had just taken was crawling at ~ 7-10mb/s.

Is this thing really that slow? I sort of assumed that my mutli-thousand dollar laptop had a card reader that could read/write faster than at walmart grade class 4 speeds.

  8. Man time flies.

Looks like I mozied on into this place almost a year to the day since I first joined. Where has Lozz of Notebook review been all this time?

Playing with my toys, as usual, The R2 hasn't been getting a lot of love, but that's changing..

Top tip; Detail spray and waterless wash work on laptops too!

    Then of course.. there's the new love of my life;

    DSC_2940.jpg

there's a few drag racing/autocross videos in my youtube channel

Did I miss anything? I've ordered up another momentus XT to put in Raid 0 --- anyone want a 120GB vertex 2?

Have they shoved Crossfire 6990's in the R2 yet? :D I figured since ME3 and Skyrim are out it's time to spruce up the old girl.

  9. Hey where do I sign lol... it's about time... there are so many bad things out there hurting everyone like drunk driving and heavy drugs... the green stuff has never been and will never be a threat to society. Scenario... couple friends get in car and are driving under the influence of weed... "hey your going to fast we just blazed by that snail... (speedometer reads 5mph)" See my point worst case scenario we have a bunch of people with the munchies laughing their a$$es off!

I would say it's less about the effects and more about the state government(s) ability(or lack of an ability) to standardize and regulate an industry that has been involved with continental-wide orginized crime for decades, and has a generally unfavorable standing with the general public that do not use it.

what does everyone honestly expect will happen after it's legalized and states(bankrupt states...) have to make up their own regulatory policys and enforce them against threats that the federal goverment hasen't even been able to vanquish? If you said you're still going to Jimmy for your stuff every other day, he'll just have a CC machine and give you a receipt with 10% sales tax, I would say that's a fantasy.

  10. I have a toughbook CF-29 that I still have to use for ETKA 7.3 and vag-com, but not much else, there's not much you can do with a dothan 1.6ghz anymore.. Second thing I would do if you plan on using it for any sort of storage is to replace the HDD. more so if it's the orginal one, 5 years is getting up there. if it were me personally, I'd donate it, I wouldn't trust it for any sort of long-term media storage with 5 years of heatsoak, a 5 year old PSU, and possible cap leakage. If you absolutely want to find a purpose for it, I'd suggest throwing XP on it and using it as an old console-game emulator, an X2 is still a lot of overkill for what's out there, but hopefully it's *just* old enough to work with most of them today.

  11. Brian, didn't see hotlinking rules, just let me know if I need to save or re-size these.

    HDR pics of the M3.

I almost had my hands on a white with red/black interior E36, nice E46 still sir.

however, you're the enemy, so we must part ways.
