when i went to pull the top cover off of mine after taking the keyboard out it felt like something mechanical was holding the two pieces together. I need to re-apply thermal paste because my temps without turbo boost are around 85 C with hyperthreading off. Did this happen to anyone else?

So i got a notebook cooler and turned hyperthreading off and am now getting steady temps around 80C. However the processor is not turbo boosting at all its staying at its stock 2.4 GHz speed. Using throttlestop i can make it go faster but the temps rise to 90C again. Should i re-do the thermal paste on the CPU?

During normal wildstar gameplay my CPU and both GPU's reach 90+ degrees C. This seems abnormally hot to me. Does anyone else have these hot temperatures? Will disabling hyperthreading have a significant effect in cooling down my cpu during load?

I have the y500 and i clean installed windows 8 on a 128 gb msata i ordered on amazon. It was this one i believe.

Neither the y500 or y50 gives the option of an SSD. For a high end gaming laptop they should at least offer an option

I just ordered this cooling pad from Amazon. Amazon.com: Cooler Master NotePal X-Slim Ultra-Slim Laptop Cooling Pad with 160mm Fan (R9-NBC-XSLI-GP): Computers & Accessories It uses one large fan and is pretty portable.

If you are running too hot you could also try disabling hyperthreading using the modded bios. This can drop temps 5-10C

I can not speak for the y510 but i have the y500 with dual 750m's and it seems to get very hot during load. Temps of 85-90C for both GPU's and CPU. I ordered a cooler master x slim cooling pad off amazon today and im hoping that this will bring temps down.
