1. You know what, i was taping the answer but this

    Relax,

First , no hello, a single sentence who mean almost nothing,

Second an answer that scream " i am too lazy to read a one page thread "

    and now " relax"

Grown up little child, you just have to use your eyes EVERY thing is in the thread. And after maybe learn how to interact with other people. First time i see someone like this in 3 different languages on a lots of forum, incredible ...

  2. So many questions.... bare with me...

So my GPU fan stopped working properly. It spins a bit at power-on; goes flat out when flashing bios; but never to spin again in Windows.

This happened after trying to get a 780M to work in my R4 (I suspect that the card has issues).

I had flashed the system bios from A13 back to A11, then A11 unlocked.

Maybe it's coincidence that the GPU fan stopped working properly at around this point.

I've read that many people have this problem.

Can we really know what causes this? If it's fan tables getting screwed up, you would think re-flashing the bios would correct that? But it doesn't.

Do we know where the EC sensors / controllers are located? Is it a separate chip on the motherboard? Part of an integrated circuit?

If we can't find this information, is HWINFO the only workable solution? (besides buying another motherboard for HUGE $$ that could develop the same problem at any time)

    Peoples... your wisdom please.

You can try getting out the rpm wire and pwm wire ( the two on the midle ) , the fan will get contiuous 5V and should run at full speed wih no regulation. Use a little flat srewdriver to pull the pin out.

  3. Hi,

I have made an other thread about that on notebookreview, that might interesset some people so i post it here too.

Some of you know that the m17x r3/r4 cpu fan can be upgraded with an m14xr2 fan, 2.2 Cfm vs 10.1 Cfm ! I wanna try that too on my m17x r2.

The problem is the wiring of the r2 is a bit different, there are 5 wire for the stock fan and only 4 on the m14x, but the m15x has five wire and the last wired is solder on the ground wire so ...

I have ordered an m15x fan, cut its wire and soldered it on the m14x fan, be careful , the wiring pinout is not the same on the m15x and m14x .

    m15x :

red +5v / black ground / yellow rpm / blue pwm / green soldered to ground

    m14x :

black with red dot +5v / black with yellow dot rpm / black with white dot pwm / black with no dot ground

Pretty dirty job i know, use shrinktube if you can.

So it work ! And It run at 4500 rpm and not 4000 rpm like the stock one, but its way smaller and the airflow goes every where. Anyway my i7 920xm stay at 70 ° under wprime @8 thread and 3.35 Ghz.

Now my idea is to use the stock fan frame, i will cut off the rotor and keep the frame as an air duc, a new stock fan is comming, i don't want to destroy mine without any spare as i need my laptop to work.

I think this fan is way more powerfull than the stock one, i will keep this thread updated with the result.

  4. Well, i see a lot of people here doesn't like optimus, why ? I have got the older system in my acer 7530G, it was called Hybrid Sli with an 9100mG and 9600M GS, that was working without too much problem , only on vista ... When i start a game a little black screen and the 9600 run but when i go back with alt+tab from a game to desktop in a game it stay on 9600m. It was a pretty cool feature actually.

  5. Hello all, i have been reading here with interest. You all said that's a igpu problem. I have got an m17xr2 witch is pretty much an desktop rig in laptop barebone , no igpu or hybrid sli or thing like this, just first gen cpu and dual mxm slot. Do you think those card should work in that case ? I know it's an old laptop ... but one 970m with 70/80w is for me far better than two 7970m with dual power supply and stuff.

  6. Hi ,

i know there are a lot of thread about Vbios and things but i need a clear answer , i am looking at it between days and i am lost ..

So i have na M17X R2 and i have bought an dell 7970M , i don't know the vbios versin , i have receive it yet.

If it's an 022 , what can i do ? I have read that flashing to an older Vbios will brick the card, is it right that the post will fail with an 022 bios ?

Can i unsolder the chip and erae it memory , like EEPROM when we apply hight voltage to erase everything before re-writing.

Can i swap the vbios chip with an other one wilth older vbios ? I have some skill in soldering , that wont be a problem , i havent got any programming stuf.

If i flashed the card in slave mxm port with an working ( 4870m ) card in master port , it still brick ?

Is there any solution to this problem ? I am not sure someone will be ok to swap his older car with mine ...

  7. Hi

I know that this subject has been seen in all the way but i am really lost ....

I have just order an dell 7970m , i don't know the vbios type but with my luck it will be an 022 , i have an M17X R2 so it won't post , until here am i right ?

So i need to change this vbios, i can't flash cause it will brick the card , right ?

What can i do ? Can i swap physically the chip , i have some skill at soldering, it wont be a problem for me.

Can i put the card on slave slot and flash it , does it change something or it will brick again ?

I there a way to clear the vbios ? Desoldering the chip and put an hight voltage to one or two pin like EEPROM ?

If someone can make sens with all of these , i will be very gratefull.

    4. Can I make this work using just my notebook's LCD display?Spoiler

The desktop video card outputs to it's HDMI/VGA/DVI connector. The notebook's LCD display uses a LVDS input on your systemboard with no external jack to connect to it. Meaning then they cannot be physically connected together unless adapt a US$30 ebay kits allowing external input to the internal LCD as discussed, which only quite an advanced user would ever attempt.

Another more elegant solution would use a HDMI input expresscard as described at Play PS3/X360 on laptop screen using new HDMI Input Express Card. . Though current costs of $170 for the item makes it unattractive AND you'd need to then do a mPCIe eGPU implementation.

There are however these less drastic ways of getting your accelerated graphics card to render to the internal LCD, all of which will have lower performance than when running using an external LCD:

    • NVIDIA Optimus driver provides a transparent internal LCD cloning mode for systems with a 4500MHD/HD/HD3000/HD4000 iGPU primary video when using a NVIDIA GTS4xx/GTX4xx card.
    • Use Lucidlogix virtu drivers to provide transparent output using the internal LCD if you have a Sandy Bridge cpu. (timohour)
    • Ultramon/Chung Gun method can clone from the desktop eGPU's window to the internal LCD for windowed games/apps.
    • USB 3.0 framegrabbers have sufficient bandwidth to capture the image from the desktop eGPU and pipe it back to your notebook's display.

It is not feasible to use USB 2.0 framegrabbers. The desktop video card outputs HDMI/S-Video. To try to clone the output from the desktop video card via a USB frame grabber can be done, but consider say 1280x800x32-bit = 4MB per image. If gaming at 30FPS that's 120MB/s bandwidth required. USB 2.0 is 480Mbps (60MB/s in *best case* scenario.. more like 30MB/s in real-life).

Ok, sorry but you can use internal screen without Intel HD (see up, first page of this DIY eGPU thread)

I don't know well the methods but you could still buy a new laptop with Ivy bridge to benefit from a more powerful CPU and the ability to use 1.2Opt link.

Otherwise you can simply buy an external monitor and leave it at your parent's place.

I don't need to buy an other laptop , my desktop rig is far enought powerfull to play game , the idea was just for some little game like counter strike global offensive , i hav got an spare screen so i will try to see if it work .

I'm guessing here, but I'm pretty sure you won't be able to run an eGPU on the internal display with your setup. I know I get errors with the eGPU not wanting to work with my internal displays if my dGPU is on. Since you have two you would have to disable them both for a chance to get it working. Just a guess though.

Ok , i can disable the mxm gpu in bios so i wil try with an external screen. At least that will save some Mb/s and maybe increase fps .

That's it , the 9100m eand the 9600m gs work together with the hybrid sli , when i need power , the 9600m work and when i need low energy consumption the 9100m work. I have an old turion ultra zm 82 , amd dual core . Not very powerfull but it's just to play a little when i go back to my parent's house , i don't want to move my gamer rig all the time.

  10. Hi coyote !

I was thinking , as my hybrid sli is an prototype of the optimus technology , is there someone who have tried it ? In a way , i think the video signal is going trough the igpu 9100m g , the 9600m gs just do the work without beeing physically connected to ths screen.

I will look for it , tha't not a big deal if i can't use the laptop screen , it's just more compfy .

  11. In first , i am sorry for my bad english , i am french and i do my best to be understanable.

    Hi ,

i have found this forum and i was asking me if i can do that to my old laptop. It's an acer aspire 7530 g , i have upgrade it with an ssd , an turion ultrra zm 82 an some cooling optimisation. I have an express card 54 free port , and my gpu system is a bit unuaslly. It's an hybrid sli , an old version of the optimus , my mxm 9600 m gs work in game and my 9100m g take the work when i go back to desktop / idle .

Do you think an e gpu with the video flux on the laptop screen can work on this system ? I have in stock some good psu , pci express 16x/1x riser and skill with iron gun soldering. I have found a thread where a guy make his own adaptater , i think i will do the same with some capacitor in supply on power line .

What graphic card will i need ? An nvidia well be easier i think ? If yes , what model ? An gtx 460 is very cheap , and my cpu is too low for better performence.

My laptop run on windows 8 , is it an problem ? I can go back to 7 .

    Thank you for reading :02.47-tranquillity:
