  1. thank you very much! :peaceful:

I try to buy today , and repaste this week. i take some photos of temps , from before and after repaste.if it drops 20c , i install the modded BIOS :lemo:

If you expect your temps to drop 20C based on others' results, you will probably be disappointed. There may be others, as well as myself, who saw drops like what I did, but there are so many variables in repasting that you may see less than what I and others saw. Do your own research into the thermal paste that is right for you and "proper" methods to reapply the paste you choose. Don't go by what others have said/done. Evaluate whether or not you want to install the modded BIOS on the results you see afterwards and if you will benefit in doing so.

Although this is a rather constructive forum and pretty much lacks any ill-will, this is still the Internet.

  2. I do some test changuing energy setting (lenovo performance), and now i obtein 93ºc while i play at BT4 betwen 35 and 45 FPS, with medium setting at 1920x1080. Turbo is always working ( 935Mhz ) and processor at 100% in energy setting. If i changue the energy settings to Balanced, the temperature decrease to 83-84ºc ...

I have a question, If i changue to unlocked bios , with 1Ghz fix in core of graphics car ,could i have overheating? (more than 93ºc when i play)

    Thanks everybody.

If you are already seeing 93C you most likely will see higher temps with 1Ghz, and potentially see your computer shut off to protect the GPU.

What you should do, even if you don't install the modded BIOS, is to repaste your laptop. I saw 93C (with artifacts) before I repasted and had temps drop roughly 20C afterwards using Tuniq TX-4, depending on the game. The highest I have seen it go at 1Ghz is around 78C.

  3. thanks for reply..

function button working, with volume, brightnes etc except backlight. backlight mean when i press Fn+space button all keyboard glow in lenovo y580. and also there is separate volume mute button not working. backlight and mute button stop working when i flash wrong version 5DCN96WW v9.01... after recover back to original bios 5DCN90WW v8.01. but EC version could,nt back to original. i think because of the difference between ec and bios version these button not working.

i am just asking that how can i fix this problem. and if you ask than i will tell the whole story.

Take your laptop apart and check that the ribbon cables are connected to the motherboard.

  4. Guys, anybody managed to get Shadowplay to work on Windows 7 64bit? I'm starting to think it's because we use modified BIOS...

I will try tommorow with new Watch Dogs drivers, and if I don't post it works, then it doesn't :(

If you looked back a few pages you would have seen that I posted the EXACT same thing. It is a driver problem, not a BIOS problem; and it still does not work with the new drivers.

    thanx for reply

i know about Fn function button. i did mistakanly flash bios (5DCN96WW v9.01) of g580 on y580, after that my hard drive not shown in bios and i couldn't boot into my operating system. i did more mistake and my laptop gone mini brick. well, recovered from technical service shop but now facing problem of dis-function of backlight. when i saw my laptop bios there is difference between bios version and EC version. what should i do to make them same? you can check my laptop bios pic from the link below

    click on it

Free File Sharing and Storage made Simple.

additional information... UEFI setting not working. now using legacy for hard drive to boot window.

    Bios version 5DCN90WW v8.01

    EC version 5DCN96WW v9.01

    lenovo y580

backlights and volume buttons not working maybe because of NVRAM not clear during roll back from wrong bios version. any help would be appreciate

Backlight for what? You still haven't specified. If the volume functions don't work also then you need to replace your keyboard.

You are the first person with a v9 of anything on this thread.

  5. hy.. my laptop is lenovo y580.. sorry for my English. i messed up my laptop bios but went to shop and they recover bios for me but now my laptop backlight i mean buttons light not working. i checked my bios version than i found that there is difference between Bios version 5DCN90WW 8.01 and EC version 5DCN96WW v9.01. how can i fix that, can some one help me plz.. here is the link of my bios

Free File Sharing and Storage made Simple.

    Ummmmm....

To control the display backlighting you press the Orange Fn key and either the Up or Down Arrow Keys. If you have a non-factory display you only get Minimum or Maximum brightness.

For the keyboard backlight you press Fn and the Space bar. The service techs may not have reconnected all of the ribbon cables so removing the keyboard and double checking that they are indeed connected could fix it. I have no clue how old your laptop (or keyboard) is so the backlights could have died if they do not turn on.

  6. I am not sure what clean install you are referring to.

However I did use the backup tool I found to make a .bin backup. I assumed since the fparts list was used later, that it was just part of the package for the fit.zip, not necessary in the backup phase. Then I did the fix, which had no issues. I placed prr, fpt, fixed bios and part list onto the usb drive, and had a slight problem getting it to boot. I forgot to put it in legacy mode. After that, I ran the per and voila, installed without problem. Booted up, checked the bios, and svl7's mod is working fine.

Put my new wlan card in, downloaded the drivers, and now I no longer have to disconnect and reconnect to my wlan when coming out of sleep. I will test the performance over a few hours of gaming to see if the card does the same thing as the last one(losing network every 1 1/2 hours).

As soon as I get home today, svl7 gets a case of beer.

My bad... I confused your post with another and gave the wrong advice.

Glad to hear you got it to work!

  7. OK, so I tried to run the backup, it just flashes a command prompt then goes away. Did it do anything?? I am running it as administrator and I have my anti-virus off.

I downloaded a bios backup tool, which saves it as a .rom. I can tell it to save as a .bin. But if I use this tool and not the one I downloaded here, will it properly flash?? Or is that fparts list in the folder important to this process?

What I meant was a clean install.

As for the second part of your post, I have no clue since I am not that knowledgeable about the flashing process.

  8. Hi...I am hoping this fix will help me solve the problems I am having. I installed a new msata EVO 840 500G in my Lenovo Y580. Installation went fine and I cleaned the original 1TB HHD as I am going to use it to store media files.

Once I updated all the drivers I restarted my laptop and was greeted by a "default boot device missing" message. On F12 I don't see either of the drives to select. Since BIOS doesn't let me choose boot order I figured installing the unlocked version should help.

So, long story but I have 3 questions:

1- My current BIOS version is 5DCN90WW(v8.01). Are the instructions on page 1 of this thread still accurate and should allow me to flash ok? (my own risk, I know)

2- Why can't I download any of the files listed in the spoilers?

3- Although off topic, but would you recommend me trying anything else before trying to flash BIOS? (bad past experiences flashing bios)

Thank you in advance for all your help!!

    vic243

Try wiping the EVO from another computer and install Windows from a disc with only the EVO connected and see if that fixes your problem. You can always flash the mod for v8.1 and see if that fixes it if my suggestion before this doesn't work.

I believe this was stated on page 1 of this thread...

I am currently running 5DCN89WW(8.0). If wanted to remove the stupid whitelist in order to use Intel 7260HMW in my Y580. The Centrino wlan card it came with seems to go on the fritz about 2 hours into playing games. So I got one I thought would work. Nope, whitelist crap. So if I get the modified BIOS described above, will I be able to install it?

I like that this will do away with the whitelist. But is there some way for me to opt out of the speed increase on the video card? It gets hot enough with the NotePal U3 I am using to direct air into the vcard intake. I would enjoy not having to worry about prematurely burning the vcard out.

Does anyone know with the bios unlocked if I will be able to set the vcard back to default. Or is that taken care of in Windows under the nVidia Experience utility?

AH!! God sorry there was not meant to be so many posts. I thought I had some bad posts. Pease clear my other two posts below.

If you want stock GPU clocks don't run it under Lenovo Dynamic Graphics since that is the power scheme that has the 1Ghz clocks. High Performance keeps the clocks at 885Mhz.

You can also use NVidia Inspector to manually adjust clock speeds.

  9. I have cracked the screen and ended up buying a new screen online (not through Lenovo) and replacing it myself. Now I am having trouble with the screen brightness keys. If I hold Fn and press the up key, the brightness jumps to the highest setting. If I hold Fn and press the down key, the brightness jumps to a much lower setting; there is no in between. The screen will only toggle between two settings: really bright or really dim. The volume keys still work just fine.

Is it because the new screen is not whitelisted or?

There is most likely a screen whitelist as well. I have asked this question as well as 1 other person and we both have been ignored on this front. svl7: OP; provider of mods, has most likely abandoned this thread and it appears others (who have worked on mods of their own) have too, so any of them probably will not be of help. I would attempt looking into it but I lack the required know-how and tools to do

I got my Y580 a few weeks after launch and two weeks after I took possession my sister cracked my screen. You just get used to only having min/max brightness... What screen did you get? I originally had a shitty LG replacement and now run an AUO B156HW01 V7.

You're absolutely right - time is the price for all of the knowledge gathered here. But unfortunately I don't have this luxury right now so I choose your experience to help me overcome this.

I don't think virus is somewhere in modded BIOS because that would be already brought up. But like I said - I needed to exclude every possibility. Just to be sure and to have better picture of what can be wrong in my case. And because there was no one with similar issues then I can strike this off my list.

After another few hours I spent with my laptop I now know that second accident was somehow different then first one. This time data wasn't corrupted. It would only seems like boot partition was damaged. I had recovery disk from another PC (Y580 is my second computer) but it didn't help me here. BTW I don't need to look for iso because I have Win on DVD. I bought clean laptop. :)

Anyway - thanks for answer. At least now I can look for origin of this issue somewhere else. ;)

    Good hunting!

  10. Hi

I have a little problem with my Y580 and I wanted to check every possibility that there is...

I have used Lenovo Y580 / Y480 BIOS v2.07 (5DCN40WW) (don't remember where I got it thought - it was long ago) version of modded BIOS.

    Short description of problem itself:

Last Thursday I've closed lid of my laptop as usual to get it to sleep. When I opened it few hours later I saw Windows 7 boot prompt with two options: boot normally and recovery. Both did the same thing - reboot to this screen again. After investigating I found out that system partition had a lot of files corrupted, to the extend that recovery CD didn't see this partition at all.

Many hours later I manage to recover some files and reinstall Windows on *new* drive (I bought mSATA SSD). During installation process laptop has rebooted many times. It worked for one day during which it was rebooted, putting to sleep mode etc. and worked just fine. When I got up this morning I turn it on only to find out boot prompt instead of Windows...

There are only few things I can thing about that could cause this:

    1. Some virus that is stored in BIOS.

    2. Something is wrong in moded BIOS (like controller).

    3. I have another partition (big storage) that could have virus two but I doubt it.

As you may see there are two possibilities that involves moded BIOS. And like I said - I want to exclude everything that I can in a quest of pin down this issue...

This thread has over 100 pages so there's no way for me to read everything. That's way I would like to ask you for your help. Did you have or seen someone who have problem like this?

Or maybe you have some tips?

First off, there is a way you can read all 119 pages (as of this post): it's called time. I and many others on this thread have done this so it is possible.

I have had pretty much all my questions answered by reading this thread entirely and If I come across one, it is probably here somewhere. But your question did not live here until your post.

I am no coding wizard, but if you got the modded BIOS from a link in this thread, there is NO virus in the BIOS files you installed. If there was a virus in your BIOS, IMHO, corrupted files would be the least of your worries.

You most likely have a virus. If the same issue showed up on a recovery install, then the recovery also includes the issue.

Find an official Windows 7 .iso and burn it to a disc or create a bootable USB and install it fresh. Forget about using your recovery since it seems that has the same issue too.

If you still have the same problem after the fresh install and with all the drivers and programs you use installed, then you really have problem on your hands.

To me at least, the above is common sense.

  11. I made huge mistake and need your advice to help me solve my problem.

I have flashed accidentally my bios with wrong version. I have Y580 (v bios: 5dcn40ww) but instaled bios from G580 (v bios: 5ecn96ww). Flashing proces went smoothly w/o any errors but after restart my HDD is not visable in bios.

tel me how to reflash bios through dos or bootable usb plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Already has been explained in this thread.

  12. sorry for the stupid question, is the Y480 bios compatible with Y400 model?

    No.

can u give me the tools needed to flash bios for z510

    i want to downgrade it

    it's insyde

You are in the wrong forum.

Create a new one saying exactly what you want to do here:

    Lenovo / IBM

just tried to update bios for y580 but got an error.

Whatever your error code is, it most likely has already been answered in this thread. If you read from the beginning or search this thread, you will be able to find an answer.

  13. I must clarify my previous post. I have ShadowPlay working under Windows 8.1 64-bit, and not in Windows 7 HP 64-bit.

I have reinstalled the 337.50 drivers multiple times, regular and clean install, and now before posting this I uninstalled the driver itself and GeFE (could not uninstall PhyX due to the missing uninstall folder in Installer2...) and did a fresh driver install.

SP still does not work even after the fresh install. After the fresh install and launching GeFE for the first time after the restart, I was able to get SP to turn on and it started configuring itself.

After a few seconds of configuration the screen flashed black and SP turned off. After the screen came from black, and from then on, I can click the SP power button to my hearts content and nothing happens.

Anybody else with this same problem or SP working under Windows 7??

  14. I got ShadowPlay to work by reinstalling the drivers and choosing the "Express" Install setting and after the driver finished installing, ShadowPlay turned on (haven't tested yet). If choosing the "Customize" does anything to SP working, I don't know...

I deleted the NvStreamSrv, LEDVisualizer, and the N3DVision folders since I had no use of it (Streaming and N3DVision), or was incompatable (LEDV) before the reinstall.

My logic is that there's simply is no use wasting SSD space and having useless processes running... I did that with all the previous drivers and had no issues since Mobile GPUs were not supported for a lot of GFE's features. Now it looks like to get ShadowPlay to work (Capture Service most likely) you have to have streaming capabilities (Streamer Services)...

It is disappointing that for one, Nvidia cannot add a few lines of code to delete the old driver folder(s) in the Nvidia folder in C: and the Installer2 folder in Program Files/Nvidia, and separate the different features so that we can choose what we want to install. They used to be able to do that...

    • Thumbs Up 1
  15. Sorry to answer a question with a question guys, but I have another question :D

Driver 337.50 enables SHADOWPLAY on GTX660m (hurraaay!). But when I click the "power button" in Geforce Experience Shadowplay menu - nothing happens. Does it work for anybody here?

Shadowplay does the same for me.

After looking on the GeFE 2.0 forum, there's already someone who has a 660M and posted exactly the same question but there is no Mod reply to it as of this post.

Besides the general "do a clean install" the Mod's are giving, there's no solution now...

  16. Is there a way to enable display brightness in the BIOS? My screen was cracked by my sister shortly after I bought it after it first came out and have lost that control ever since.

Even with the same exact display as the factory screen as a replacement (Lenovo wanted $400 to replace it), I was not able to change the brightness from min and max. I ended up buying the AUO B156HW01 V.7 and I find it to be superior to the stock display. Though I have used the AUO for close to a year and only had the stock display for roughly two weeks, so I have some bias from not being able to remember...

There is a post on the bottom of page 77 (http://forum.techinferno.com/lenovo-ibm/2260-lenovo-y580-y480-unlocked-bios-versions-77.html#post54202) requesting this same thing, but it was never acknowledged or replied to...

  17. I am now contemplating whether I should attempt a BIOS unlock while paying more attention or just drop it and deal with the spotty wifi performance. I don't care much for overclocking, machine is fast enough, but the intermittent wifi is killing any streaming or online gaming attempt.

I would still do it. That is the main reason why I flashed the BIOS' featured here was to remove the Wi-Fi whitelist, the added performance is just an extra bonus since I do game ;) The only extra thing I wish the modded BIOS' included was a way to remove the LCD whitelist, or whatever it is, so I can have brightness control over a replacement LCD. Even when I replaced the LCD with the "same" model, I still did not have brightness control...

  18. Is it Windows 8 or 8.1??? I have Windows 8.1 and I was able to get the clocks to read 1000Mhz after changing some of the settings, like ASPM and some of the other settings detailed a few pages back, on svl7's BIOS. I flashed ErYani's BIOS and was unable to make the same changes to get the clocks to read 1000Mhz, even now while using svl7's BIOS again.

    Are you using v2.07 or v.8.0 ?

if v2.07 make sure your temp dont go over 89C if so it downclock it self to 405

am currently using v.207 @1.1675V currently @1300 core 3100 mem , and it doesnt clock down , when i boot its @1000 core @3000mem , i overclock +300 for gpu

using nvdia inspector , i modified the bios so what it does is doesnt go below 1000 @ core and can go up to 1300 depending on usage no matter what temps are!

if your interested here its Nitrobits.com - Download Y580_v2.07_660mGHz_OV-1,67V.rar it Will Never Go at lower Clock Than 1000 @ core , but remember , Lenovo dynamic graphics profile must be using ohh btw overclock it using Nvdia inspector DONT change the profile or froce new one using nvdia inspector! , and its dynamic clocks just remember it wont jump to 1300 unless it needs to , the default is 1000 @ core 3000@ mem , this bios for v207 only , Peace out.

If only I written down the changes to know what worked and share... For me, when on Windows 7 the clocks still are maxed at 405Mhz like how it has been using Windows 8.1.

I figured out why my gpu core clock kept going down to 405 under high load. It had something to do with Windows 8 because I reinstalled win 8 several times, following the correct driver install order, and other times I tried preinstalling intel and nvidia drivers but nothing helped. Eventually I just said fuck it and went back to Windows 7. Problem is gone now. The downclocking may also be because of my changed ASPM modes (has been disabled and auto select) but IIRC problem was still there when those were on default. I'm just gonna keep it at default since I can easily score 3900s on 3dmark 11 and that's good enough for me (although higher is welcome!) =)

ErYani, I downloaded your BIOS and got errors from the extraction using WinRAR on Windows 8.1. I do have the v2.07 BIOS btw. Also I have what files WinRAR did extract in another screenshot.

  20. I've already changed my WIFI card from intel N2200 to Ultimate 6300AGN then to 7260AC and now I am using the 7260AC in my Y580.

I can have the 450M bandwidth while using the 6300 AGN in the three 3x3 mode but it will be only 300M while using 7260AC because there is only the 2x2 mode for this card no matter how in 802.11A/N/AC.

    So my point is:

It is necessary to install the 7260AC only if you have the 802.11AC router as you will have up to 876M bandwidth.

But if you only have the 802.11N or A router, maybe 6300AGN is a good choice because the only advantage I see 7260AC under A/N mode is lower-power consumption and lower temperature.

    Thanks.

Thanks! You mentioned having the 6300AGN in a 3x3 config, so where did you place the third antenna within the housing?

I'm leaning more towards the 7260 for the lower power consumption and temps. I am in college and am not sure on my school's wireless setup so I don't think the connection speed could be a major difference between the two.

Plus, I would have a Wi-Fi card that will last a few years until the next latest and greatest Wi-Fi standard comes out.

  21. I am considering on buying the Intel 7260 Wi-Fi adapter to upgrade my Y580. For those who have already installed the modded BIOS and have the Intel card installed, what kind of improvements or quirks were observed?

I know I don't have the 5 posts to download the BIOS yet, but I want to see if it is worth the hassle before I fully commit to it.
