I only limit fps to 59 when the ingame vsync seems to be faulty. In most games with problematic vsync that causes stuttering, vsync+59fps cap gives me somewhat acceptable smoothness along with no screen tearing.

Use ungine heaven or 3dmark. Furrmark creates unnecessary stress on your gpu and can damage it if used for long.

Quick note: Don't use furrmark/kombuster. It creates unnecessary strain on your gpu and can permanently damage it. Use 3dmark or unigine Heaven instead for stress testing.

But now that you are here, perhaps you could help these guys?
-
Dude... it's part of the bios.
The other guy sent me a friend request. I just replied back to the thread he posted in without checking bios or vbios >_< My bad.
-
Guys, please post your vbios here if you are asking for someone to mod them.
-
I keep my pagefile on my hdd instead of my ssd since it eats up too much space on my little 128gb sandisk. I would not recommend disabling it completely because some programs go nuts without it.
-
I always keep turbo boost on while running ridiculously high OCs for hours. Mine still works properly so I suppose that it doesn't hurt it.
-
That's possible.
Really? I have been resigned to setting it up a bit for a while now:52_002:

hi,cresterk
i got msi gt70(1762) with 880m,
i can't OC 880m over than +60 mhz(without modded vbios),
it always crash,
even i flashed OV vbios,it still crash!
do you have any idea how to fix it?
BTW,the 880m vbios can be unlock the TDP limit?
Here is my OV version vbios
The 880m is pretty much a 780m overclocked to its limits. I would wait for Svl7 or Klem to finish experimenting with it, they are much more experienced than me and they seem to be having trouble with it.
Btw, hows the 1762 coping with the heat of an 880m? I have a 1762 as well and I was thinking of getting a 780m/880m.

In my case, on my GT70, the throttling is controlled by the embedded controller. I actually had to flash an EC firmware with throttling relaxed as any overclock was rendered useless pretty quickly. Now, if throttling occurs its, I think, at 87c.
https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=162629.0
I am curious if the barebones EC firmware is any different or better than the unlocked one provided by MSI. Anyone here know how to modify EC firmware?
Thanks for the clarification. I understand your point now.
I wish they had included what exactly the beta EC changed. All I got from him was that it allowed better use of power by the cpu/gpu.

That's interesting with the 67 degC voltage dependancy that you mention. I wonder if that means that higher voltages over 67 degC are dangerous for the GPU? I know for the 600 series desktop GPU's like the GTX 680, then max Turbo Boost (referring to the NVidia feature, not the MSI Turbo Boost) voltage of 1.175V was reduced to a lesser value when above 70 degC. 700 series GPU's seem to go against this rule though, so I wonder if there is any difference on the voltage tolerance of the silicon between the 600 & 700 series GPU's, even though they're both the same Kepler cores. It's a mystery!?
I don't know exactly why. Angerthosenear had extreme throttling issues on his 650m when he hit 67C on his m14x. Mine throttles back to stock clocks when I hit 89C.
-
This does not seem true. I am running the kombustor burn-in side by side with GPUZ and pressing the turbo button does not affect the voltage. In fact it doesnt affect anything after I flashed the clevo bios. On the MSI bios I could use the turbo button to enable/disable the overclock but not anymore.
I was talking about the msi vbios. Clevo doesn't have a turbo button and therefore hitting it doesn't do anything at all. On msi, your voltage would increase from 1.000V - 0.950V to 1.037V - 1.012V depending on whether your temperature is above or below 67C when you hit the turbo button. If you flash svl7's modified msi vbios, the only thing the turbo button would do, is make your clocks stay at max at all times. However, changing your clocks using nvidia inspector/ msi afterburner will make the turbo button useless in svl7's vbios.
-
That sounds good, but strange! The modified vBIOS shouldn't enable it to run cooler, unless MSI programmed an unnaturally high voltage for it's 3D clocks thereby resulting in higher temperatures. Did you notice a difference in voltage between your stock MSI vBIOS and the modified vBIOS?
It is because with turbo off, it runs at 0.950V and with turbo on, it runs at 1.012V.

Ello svl7, can you pls unlock my core clock limit /s :snicker:
-
i can confirm that i have flashed it because when i change the clocks in the bios file, after the flash GPU-Z shows the clocks i have changed.
i also use this command -nvflash -4 -5 -6 *.rom
Tried flashing with dos nvflash and windows, doesnt matter.
Maybe it's a driver's issue too, idk. Do you know of anyone who didnt go above 135mhz after flashing modded bios ?
Nope, never heard of it. http://i.imgur.com/IXjP5RA.jpg
-
I flashed it, but still cant figure out how to overcome the 135mhz. Nvidia inspector slider is still at 135 max. Tried to overclock via the bat file commands for nvinspector - still nothing. Tried to change vbios settings with Kepler Bios Tweaker - no help. Maybe it's something related to the acer bios too, not just the vbios.
Anyway thank you, if you have any ideas please share them.
Regards,
Are you sure you flashed it properly? Boost should be disabled and you should have a +540 limit.
-
If you are using just a single 1080p monitor, you wont ever be using more than 2gb. Not even skyrim with mods used that much VRAM for me. Besides, lower memory overclocks better.
-
Thx a lot cresterk, it work but at 1.012V and it throttle (at 70 C).
Strange, give me a few hours to reach home and I will give you another one.
-
I have only flashed the vbios from the y510, but although, where i downloaded it from it stated that it's unlcoked, i still couldnt go above the 135mhz limit.
Can you unlock my original 760m vbios ?
If it does matter my laptop is the v3-772g, i5 4200m, 760m gtx GDDR5
Thanks in advance.
Let me know if this works as intended: 760Medit.zip

Hi,
My understanding is that they all remove the artificial 135 core overclock limit but beyond that I don't really know the difference. I'm kind of hoping to find a version that automatically has higher max clock speeds, still downclocks when not in full use, plays well with Optimus, and doesn't cause temps too high that I need to use external cooling. I don't want to have to overclock every time I play if possible by resorting to software like MSI Afterburner. Essentially a fire and forget vBIOS.
I'm assuming one of the overvolted vBIOS's is what I want but I'm not sure. Also what is the difference between 33 and 67?
Thanks!
They are all same other than different voltages and perhaps different power tables. Like svl7 said, all the clocks are at default.

Greetings Khenglish. I decided to try my luck with BCLK but unfortunately my quest came to an abrupt halt due to a broken link. Can you please upload a mirror for : https://www.dropbox.com/s/spmvxmz9pal1j6l/ME_Port.com ?

I recently (as of yesterday) purchased a GT70 that has the 4800MQ CPU and the GTX880M card. I am not too familiar with MSI laptops but I hear they are very customizable. What are some of the quick things I can do to boost performance on these laptops? I should mention I am very comfortable flashing bios/vBios.
Nothing much for now. Like the other user said, wait till the Maestro Svl7 mods and releases the 880m vbios. I think you can overclock your cpu turbo a bit using intel XTU.
-
I really like this as a way to tinker with the fan speeds. I have a GT70 in a very hot climate and like more aggressive cooling, for obvious reasons.
I reckon I'll eventually modify the EC, once I find a good config and have enough posts to download the damn tool.
Thanks for the heads-up on this, and yes, 100 shut my laptop down. hehehe
Edit: If you want this to silently apply on logon, schedule a task to execute at logon with "highest privs" checked and this in the argument field: ProfilePath="Profiles\16F2-12\yourprofile.rw" hideui exitonapply
Edit 2: It seems settings are lost if the laptop enters suspend mode, so I've added a an event trigger on System log, ID 1, Power-Troubleshooter, 30 second delay. This will run the task when the computer wakes.
Edit 3: It appears that that last value is the thermal shutdown value, so I'd keep it 10 degrees below your processor's thermal limit. I still have to test this when I have more time.
You are correct. The last value is the thermal shutdown value and will immediately turn off your laptop when it hits that temp. I recommend keeping it above 90C because your gpu generally starts throttling around the 87-89C mark and will reduce temps on its own.
-
Something is wrong with your cooling if you are hitting 90c stock on a clevo laptop.
Nah, I was thinking about suoah's 8970m. I assumed amd laptop cards ran hot as hell just like the desktop r9 290xs.

Perhaps he is reporting the frequency shown in msi afterburner? The stock memory frequency for 680m shown in msi afterburner is 1800mhz.
