  1. Hi Guys!

First of all, thanks for all the great work for the bios mod!!

I was really excited when I saw a update in this thread and started right away.

Since I ran the whitelist-mod v2.07 bios I first updated to v3.05. After that I made a backup and modded it with the tool.

After that I downgraded to stock v2.07 and prepared a USB-stick for DOS flashing.

All according to the instructions in the first post.

I've tried it twice with different USB-sticks and received the same error twice....

Don't know if I'm the first with this, couldn't find it in this thread and on Google.

It says: Abort: 00, Exception 0E and Error: 00000000 as you can see in the attached image (the Dutch version of the y510p isn't anti-glare at all I guess).

Also tried different settings in bios regarding back-flash and secure boot.

Btw, the error happened right after I hit "enter" after typing "bios" so no harm did to the BIOS

    Thanks in advance!!

  2. i have a question though, i saw a post where you want to Undervolt the GPU, i have been undervolting the cpu up to 125mv below, maybe and maybe it might be nice to make a negative (-) 100milivolt undervolt on the cpu? non turbo frecuencies

Undervolting the CPU is not necessarily done via the BIOS. It is also possible with Intel Extreme Tuning Utility. With my i7 4700MQ a undervolt of -100 mV was not so stable at a stress-test. -90 mV for the CPU, Cache and Graphics Core is possible though. It is possible to apply the settings at boot so it is fairly easy in use.

  3. I'll pick SATA. Simply because I'll probably use the drive in other laptop / PC. My Lenovo uses M.2 for it's alternative SSD slot, and I doubt it will be available widely / easily in other platforms.....

And since the y510p only has space for a 42 mm long m.2 card, only a cache m.2 card fits.. The actual SSD's are (for now) a few mms (87 mm?) longer.

  4. Previous versions of OS X didn't support Haswell processors but as of 10.8.5 Apple added support for Haswell

I have a running version of Mountain Lion on my y510p! Did it with the Haswell Helper from tonymacx86 in combination with Unibeast and a image of ML 10.8.4. (my startup flags: -v USBBusFix=Yes)

Unfortunatly some of the hardware is not (yet) usable (no sound, no wifi, no graphics). But this could also because of booting in safe mode. When I don't boot in safe mode, it hangs on mounting the windows partitions...

  5. I am currently using the Samsung 840 EVO 250 GB SSD. Had to use a 2.5" drive since there are not much m2 SSDs on the market (have the y510p no SLI). For more storage space I replaced my DVD drive with the 1TB HDD and HDD caddy. The bezel was easily removed so it doesn't affect the appearance.

Despite the Samsung 840 EVO series uses TLC memory (theoretically less durable) a torture test of a computer hardware site convinced me: Hardware.Info tests lifespan of Samsung SSD 840 250GB TLC SSD [updated with final conclusion] - Final update (20-6-2013) | Hardware.Info United Kingdom. They tested two Samsung 840 250 GB SSDs. After 707 and 745 written TBs the first reallocated sectors appeared. The first uncorrectable errors appeared after 764 and 768 TB.

After two weeks of intensive use I'm still at 0.7 TB of written data on the SSD. Which means that my SSD will die after about 38 years. I guess that my laptop won't survive that long:p

Don't know how this test reflects other SSDs with TLC memory but I think the new drives are pretty durable which makes it easier when choosing a new SSD.
