  1. If you want better performance, you should look into getting the PE4L v2.1. It allows for proper PCI 2.0 connections thus giving you better performance. Unless I missed something and you are running a non Sandy Bridge or higher CPU?

Thanks for your answer, I'll get the PE4L v2.1 for more performance since I've a i3 3120m Ivy Bridge. The ExpressCard slot is 34, would the PE4L fit? And how to fix the TOLUD?

Oh and another thing, I live in France, from where can I buy it?

  2. Once again thanks, but I really think I'll keep the Fujitsu and hopefully I'll be able to manage with the DSDT override thing (although I clearly don't know in which obscure area I'm stepping in lol)

OK, so I've got the laptop, it's nice, silent, quite fast. I'm not used to Windows 8 but it's fine. Now, I need to know how to make a DSDT override, I'll be buying the PE4H and GPU (probably 660 or 760) in the next couple of days. However, I'll really need to do the DSDT override specially that the laptop came with a unique 4 Gb stick of RAM. Could it be possible to run the eGPU setup with this configuration or won't it run at ALL?

Ok from what I understand it won't run at all.

  3. Yep.. based on my testing that configuration has the best chance of holding a Gen2 link while still giving the convenience of one socketted EC/mPCIe mHDMI end. If that still fails then we know for sure that even a single mHDMI connector+socket pair introduce signal problems that BPlus need to investigate further.

Every one of those modes: HP 4530s, Lenovo E520 and Dell Vostro 3550 have an Intel HD3000 and expresscard slot allowing an NVidia Optimus (Fermi/Keplar) internal LCD mode to work. Some models coming with an additional dGPU component. The iGPU-only Fujitsu will require a DSDT override to run with 4GB or more of RAM. A 3GB configuration wouldn't have any issues.

  4. You've found like one of the last consumer notebooks with an expresscard slot. Two reasons to avoid that Fujitsu:

    1. It has a i3 CPU. I'd suggest pay a bit more for a turbo-capable i5.

    2. Fujitsu set a high TOLUD requiring a more complex DSDT override to work with a eGPU.

If those issues don't phase you then go for it. Otherwise best value is to go back one-gen for a Lenovo E520, HP 4530s or Dell Vostro 3550. Unfortunately the current gens of those systems no longer have expresscard slots.

  5. @jacobsson: Thanks a lot for your reply, at least I wouldn't have bought a laptop that cannot allow me to use EGPU on internal screen

Although I can use the UltraMon/Chung-Gun alternative, I prefer have Optimus which makes me feel it has more performance.

In few words I need a laptop (beside ExpressCard slot) with Sandy/Ivy-Bridge (for Gen2 or whatever if I choose Gen1), and Intel HD primary Graphics in order to run Optimus on internal...?....but if I have integrated GPU I must ensure that the switchable option is available.

Ok I got it. Tell me if I'm missing something

  6. @Tech Inferno Fan

Thanks so much :applouse:. I was finally able to find a laptop that could fit in my budget but with most options (internal screen, high bandwith). In this case, I'll just purchase it with PE4L 2.1b and provide feedback (a couple of weeks though).

I just love this place. A great thanks to Tech Inferno Fan for all his contributing, investment and time and all the others.

  7. I really would like some help, I'm looking to buy a Dell Latitude E6xxx series, I think the E6420, and I want to run a eGPU setup on internal screen.

    Can I do it?

Will the PE4L or PE4H perform best?

Thanks for helping me in choosing and sorry if I sound annoying but I'm really excited about this.

  8. Hello all,

I'm new to this forum and overall a noob in all this stuff. However I love gaming and I wish that I can play a little of the new games (from here let me warn you of my horrible english and please excuse me).

I have an old crappy PBell with a Intel Celeron and ATI Xpress 200M iGPU, and would like to put together a eGPU using something like lucidVirtua. Also, this laptop doesn't have any expresscard only a Wifi mPCIe.

I'll need to test the PE4L/PE4H on this laptop before buying a new one (that will surely have ExpressCard), if I buy the PM3N then buy new laptop with expresscard can I just swap between the mPCIe thing (lol) with an expresscard?

I'll clearly use the internal screen, so which laptop do you advice me to have decent performances and that would be cheap?

Also, there's something bothering me, from what I understand if there are more pins in PCIe, larger the bandwith would be, now how come PE4H doesn't have better performances than PE4L? (I'm feeling dumb lol )

    Hope I'll have clarifications

    Thanks

PS: a big Bravo at all these men that came along with this solution, I'm one of those who desktops aren't a solution at ALL for them but still would like gaming for an affordable price
