  1. hmmm...

a lighter weight, well rounded performer (possibly less frustrating drivers w/single gpu), w/nice battery life vs. a somewhat heavier, high performance (possibly somewhat more frustrating drivers w/dual gpu - perhaps a single gpu will be an option?), w/decent battery life (so long as igp is accessible)...

  2. Hey guys!

Not sure if someone mentioned this but there was another leak somewhere (I'll look for the link) stating that the M18X will have a switchable graphics with a 15hrs of battery life. Now that would be some nice addition to the specs.

hey there aikimox - great to see you and all the others! :D

15hrs would be some freakin' feat! :67:

Ok, so I've just checked the R3 manual, it has a 9-cell battery. So in the best case scenario we're looking at 6.5-8hrs, still, a very decent bonus for a gaming rig.

half that on the M18x and i'd still be gobsmacked!

I'm glad there's now an option to the insanity over "there", it's sad when good standing forum members post on subjects with pretty substantial evidence to the proof of that topic and it gets closed. I really have to wonder if Dell or Alienware have started to make threats reguarding advertising or something to that effect as I see no reason why they would close so many threads, it all started getting even worse about the time that the R3 info leaked and Dell started to make public threats. No matter what happens over there it's nice to have a place to have discussions on what the future of performance notebooks hold so thanks Brian and the other founders ;)
Alternatives are always good as is healthy competition. :)
aleluia a thread that's not going to be closed just because there's no facts. Even the m14x thread was closed and they got a picture what the heck is going on that forum
aha! So this is where all the action is...It sucks how they closed the M18x (and the M14x) thread. It seems as if NBR is being over-moderated/over-regulated as of late to the point where people are even scared to post stuff.

    most def. agree... ;)

  3. 14" is the best size for any type of laptop. Fits every backpack I can think of :P

I sure hope this comes out. Hopefully with SB cpu and hopefully with a gaming-tier GPU (ATI 68xx or at least a Nvidia 460M). Don't care how much it weighs either.

Oh yeah, shoutout to my boiz: Vikingrinn & Dane!

hey there dookie - glad to see you and all the others joining the thread here! :D

@partizan & dane: spot on - the new 'laptop' portfolio for alienware definitely looks to be M11x/M14x/M17x/M18x, which seems to be the perfect lineup imo... ;)

  4. Everyone should be flocking over here since nbr closed another m18x thread. I just dont get BB and cpj? Dont they realize if they keep killing conversations, ppl will leave? No one was arguing, so I don't see a point in closing it.
Yeah no kidding, I provided proof on that thread by Dell posting the model number and it still got closed. I personally don't think it's anything to do with BB he's usually pretty cool CPJ on the other hand is gonna be the "big headed, power trip" downfall of nbr.

and 'speculation' as to whether or not the subsequent thread on the M14x would survive over at nbr was just 'officially' validated - thread closed.

i take it as a clear indication that sometimes speculative conversation based on historical evidence and tangible facts proves to be reasonable and rationale afterall... ;)

with that said, it seems anyone with continued interest in 'speculating' about the M14x are free to do so here:

  5. I think an M14x makes a lot of sense and I think Dell will replace the M15x with a thin M14x down the line. That's why we haven't heard anything at all about an M15x refresh and someone I know that works closely with Dell told me with confidence that the M14x is coming. I bet Dell is waiting to launch the M14x and M18x together.

    this.

and despite the article including alienware as a potential home for the product, it seems (taking into account recent dell press releases) that dell will be getting the new 'thin' adamo replacement/update unit... ;)

  6. between the M17x R2 being taken off the alienware site this afternoon and cebit starting (asus just unveiled their g74 3d today at the show), either the relaunch of the M17x R3 single gpu powerhouse is imminent (possibly not only with the amd 6970m, but also nvidia 560m?!?!) or the lineups next dual gpu monster system (mythical M18x?) is on its way - or perhaps even both?!?! :P:D:P maybe just some wishful thinking, but would definitely be nice! ;)

  7. What? No love for my calvin pissing on asus photoshop skills???? :cry_002:

    much love! :D

True that I wasn't interested in the m15x, and you are right that i went for the absolute best "most powerful" alienware had to offer and that was the R2 and the R1 before that. They branded their 17" rigs as the absolute power you can get in a laptop which the R3 is not. That's all I wanted to say.

In my opinion it would have been a better move for them like I and Brian mentioned to take the XPS 17 and make it what R3 is today and keep up with their tradition for the 17" AW beasts.

    Again, my opinion...

np, understand! :D you'll be (hopefully) getting the new revision, albeit with an inch or so larger screen in a chassis that's probably the same size as the earlier lineups R2! ;)

Yes it's similar but not the same, I don't think it feels rubbery per say, but it does have a softer feel to it. As for the "rut-roh" part I've personally seen one user who has sent their R3 back due to peeling coating, and was told of another user who had the same thing start so the coating will be something to keep an eye on. I too would have preferred a powerder coated type of solution to the chassis as even if the ST coat holds up it's still not as tough as powder coated metal.

yikes, i definitely stand corrected then - i was under the impression the complaints were akin to the M11x R2 chassis complaints, lol! :P (six units floating around here atm serving their purpose quite nicely and *knock on wood* not a one with issues - no, not even hinges!) that's surprisingly silly they didn't just use the already existing coating from the M11x R2, which is a non-issue... go figure!

The 2 hours you get would be enough for most people, I am frequently in situations where I need more though so that was huge for me. The weight isn't so much of an issue, the R2 was manageable by all means but it's nice to have a bit less weight in the bag. The GPU's is something that I think AW has to release a stronger Nvidia offering

most def. agree with this dane! ;)

  8. ^^ I think the R3 would have much more popularity and support if Dell would make it's under their brand.

AW should be reserved for the most powerful stuff IMO.

    ??? ???

there is general market enthusiasm for the new unit from both consumers (interest on par with M11x reception) and industry (ie: ign/laptopmag/hardwareheaven/etc./etc./etc.) alike...

it seems you wouldn't have been interested in the current M15x, which is similar segment to the M17x R3, hence you fittingly purchased a M17x R2 and seems the (mythical) M18x will fit your needs perfectly when launched (probably summer 2011)... ;)

  9. meh, what's any "disappointment" about?

so there's a positive shift in the product lineup occuring which may require some patience (more now, no thanks to intel) while all reveals itself - no real biggie. ;)

i hate to do this, but a good analogy might just be cars.

there's an M11x (cruze), forthcoming M13x or M14x (malibu), perhaps new M15x (camaro), new M17x (corvette), and 'mythical' M18x (ZR1).

M17x R3 for those who want a 'sweet spot' system w/balanced performance/battery/size (almost same footprint as current M15x) with a single gpu that keeps pace with older dual gpu's (at relaunch), and new generation cpu's that (stock) outpace the fastest from the previous generation cpu's (stock).

M18x (*ahem*, 'mythical' M18x...) will (more than likely) be for those who are more inclined to give two ishts less about any sort of balance and demand all out 'maximum performance' utilizing dual gpu's, and maybe even perhaps more extreme cpu's...

M17x R3 simply blows any other manufacturers comparable (single gpu) offering out (especially when considering price), hence all the rave site reviews posting. :D

and as to the "rut-roh", isn't the chassis on the M17x R3 similar to the M11x R2 dane? if so, there's no "rubbery" feel quite like the asus, and it definitely doesn't "flake off", so that's not really something all too concerning.

the M17x R2 held it's respective place in the old lineup, and the M17x R3 will hold its respective place in the new lineup - after all is said and done, all alienware customers will (hopefully) get their needs met. ;)

but hate on if necessarry, eh? lol :P

  10. Well we were experimenting, you should have seen the red flashy theme we had for the main site :) Well we're pretty much done, just optimizing and filling our main site with content and then launching later this week. Welcome to the forum.

and to think i was all excited dell (or the like) might be dropping in to help launch the site by revealing some exclusive new product information... only to enter the thread and find in reality dell themselves ironically seeking information on their own product, lol - geesh! :P

  11. Any plans to purchase the M14x if it should be released? I'm seriously considering it, especially now that the TI staff is busy with web dev most of the day. Carrying the M17x from room to room isn't fun, esp. with it sitting on top of a pad haha.

may consider it - but if the M17x R3 actually gets relaunched here soon, it might just be the well balanced (performance/weight/battery life) unit atm... ;)

  12. Michael Dell wipes his ass with 6970s and eats 485M's for breakfast...much like Chuck Norris.

    lol :P

M18x: TOP SECRET..not even Michael Dell knows about it all we know is it's BADD A** and Aluminum

now, if only we could squeeze some more info re: the M18x launch timeframe along with some additional specs - need to see if its truly something worthwhile (personally) atm to holdout for... ;)

  13. Yup, I can say a reliable source that worked with Dell PM'd me at *the place that shall not be named lol* and said M14x was a sure thing. I don't think he'd have a reason to just come out of the blue and b.s. me like that. So I'm hoping we see an M14x on the AW side, a 13.4" for XPS to take on MB Air and perhaps an M18x to fill our dual card aluminum toting desires.

Thanks for the best wishes - be sure to bring along anyone else you see fit..the more the merrier. :)

that makes two of us then - something is definitely in the works w/14" then! ;)

as for the forum - sure 'nuff, will do! :D

  14. Hmm interesting, M14x ???

    perhaps?!?!

Hey viking, welcome to TI! I'm not sure if AW will pick up a 13.4" design though it's entirely possible. The adamo would make more sense as an XPS though.

thanks - best wishes to the budding new forum! :D

speculation of a 14" alienware been circulating for a while, only time will tell! ;)

  15. the spirit of the Adamo brand will live on in a spanking-new design due within six months, according to this source. That design will fall under one of Dell's existing consumer brands (e.g., Inspiron, XPS, Alienware). It will be as compelling a design as--or possibly more compelling than--the Adamo was

something new coming for the middle of alienware's lineup? more here.
