  1. but you probably wont be able to overclock as high. if its the same hardware cause they usualy bin the imperfect chips into lower number names. fewer wasted chips from the manufacturing process.

This is true, but at the moment, I don't think there is any way to overclock the 750m. (please correct me if I am wrong) But of course the 750ms have only been out for so long. So I suppose it won't affect the performance that much until an overclocking tool does come out for the 750m.

  2. Ok

I have heard soo much about Win8 being one big pile of s**** (from gaming buddies) and how windows 7 is sooo much better??

(personally i think that after XP they have basically been refining a forensics tool capable of tracking your every move lol)

So, how does Win8 fair on the Y500 in your experience??

is the first thing to do, is format and do a fresh clean install of Win7? i have never used 8 so cannot comment..

My Y500 sli comes tomorrow and before i ''move in'' i'm wondering whether to start from scratch and

    1) Upgrade the bios to v 2.02 and Mod

    2) Pull the HDD and install Win7 on msata

    3) Format the slow 1tb drive for storage..

What are peoples thoughts on this?? Any << useful lol ><useful lol="">> comments greatly appreciated :) </useful>

In my opinion, the only thing that is bad about windows 8 is the metro interface. Everything else seems to be faster, including boot times and many other operations.

The thing is, the metro interface is easily replaced with applications. There are free versions and paid versions that will make the windows button act exactly the same as in windows 7.

And before you switch, you can just try win8 out, and if you really don't like it (even after changing the metro interface) you can always switch back.

And btw, some people say that they love the new metro interface. Even though I could not agree.

  3. On a 802.11g network with 3.5 - 4.0 MB/s peak over ethernet:

    Stock: 8.5 MB/s DL

    Intel Centrino 6235 Advanced-N 13 MB/s

Upload rate was nearly the same. Tests done on www.speedtest.net.

Note you can buy an extra antenna cable and probably buy the 6300 Ultimate

Damn how fast is your internet? :D

But do you really need the extra 5MB/s?

    Anyways, thanks for the suggestion.

I might look into this after my y500 arrives :D.

  4. There's also this: 15 6'' Anti Glare Cover Keyboard Skin Protector FOR IBM Lenovo Ideapad Y580 Y500 | eBay

I can't attest to the quality, as generally applying an anti-glare film after-the-fact will induce a highly grainy appearance.

I'm loathe to replace the panel, now that I've figured out that I can overclock the panel to 108hz without frame skipping. This allows me to keep v-sync off and not worry about tearing except in quite old games with obscenely high or spiking fps.

Do you have any idea about the quality in the keyboard cover?

I am looking for one atm.

  5. My y500 had a glossy screen until I put on a matte-finished screen protector. Now I missed my glossy screen because the protector makes the screen look grainy. In terms of reflection I don't notice it much when I have my laptop on, but I do think glossy screen gives a better image quality.

I think that is only because you put a matte screen protector on. A matte screen won't have this issue to that degree.

But yes, glossy screens are supposed to have better contrast in colours.

  6. Hey everyone!

I'm mletemps. I do have a desktop, but for some reason, I prefer the mobile experience. (It probably has to do with the portability)

I was hoping that my desktop could crank out all games max settings (I built it 2 years ago, but turns out it doesn't play all games in max settings from games that come out nowadays)

It is still a beasty machine, but the lenovo y500 really appealed to me. So I ordered the lenovo y500 i7 ivy with 750m sli.

I am waiting for it to ship and am really excited. It should be here in 3 weeks.
