  1. To reset the bios, I have found this link as I am too having the same problem after flashing my bios.

By the way, could anyone advise me on the difference in performance for the sata behavior of A05, and A08 bios?

A05 supports sata-3(6 GB/S) and due to some problems in some ssd's dell removed support for sata-3 in later bios

so A08 supports only sata-2(3GB/S) you can install a sata-3(compactable sata-2)drive but it will work only in sata-2 speeds

so this mod helps to get sata-3 speeds in A08 bios

  2. If you can wait for some time may be an year go for m14x-r3

else you can go and get m14x-r2

i am using m14x-r1 and my roommate has m14x-r2 loving it

but the problem with m14x OR any alien-ware laptop is the screen (you should take care of) because many scratches you should clean it at-least 2 days once

and when ever you close the lid keep a smooth lean cloth in between and close it

The fan makes some noise but not much issue .

    :P

after buying post your experience here so we can know .:P

  3. If you got any problem with the screen then upgrade to 900p

because they both gonna cost the same if your warranty is out

i upgraded to 900p since my before screen was broken and costed me about Rs.12,000 in india ($222.222)

  4. Most of the newer R2 are on Windows 8. Anybody with the Alienware M14x R1 upgraded to Windows 8. Any issues encountered?

I'm just wondering how would the performance compared to Windows 7 :D

    You will love it

I am using it more than 1.5 years rite from the developers preview

fast boot times and alienware OSD, Command center all works in windows-8

    and also no driver issues

it's smooth really fast boot times and also time pass games (from xbox )

and you can now upgrade because all apps mostly all supporting the windows-8

and compared to windows-7 it was really cool

Join in windows-8 alienware owners fast bro :P
