I agree, I'd leave the pagefile on the 1TB drive and install the os and a game or two on the msata for fast load times.

As the y500 is a gaming laptop it would have been nice to have some gaming potential on battery. The CPU and GPU both have a TDP of 45W the CPU is capable of running at 3.1Ghz continuously on battery (all four cores 100%); a competent laptop engineer would have found a way to balance CPU and GPU power while gaming.

Make sure you go with a version of linux that supports the efi booting. Also you may have to disable the secure boot. I have not try linux it my y400 but plan to soon.

I was planning on getting a 64GB msata ssd for my y400 and putting windows 8 on it. Would the performance improvment be worth it. My y400 does not come with screws and I think it only needs 1 screw.
