Riftiro started following Trying to install an M4000M on my M6600
-
Hi all, I have an M6600 that I bought a few months ago and have almost maxed it using whatever parts I had on hand. And around the same time, I didn’t do much research and purchased a DELL Quadro M4000M that I had installed recently as I discovered the heat sink that came with my M6600 fits the M4000M just fine. Initially, I had a FirePro M8900, which started crapping out a week ago, which is what inspired me to do this swap since the M4000M just sat in my bag for the longest time. However, since installing the M4000M, I can no longer boot into Windows 10 as it gets stuck on the Windows logo, and I cannot boot into the installer for that or for Windows 7, which promptly crashes after loading files with HAL_INITIALIZATION_FAILED. Linux in the other hand gets stuck with a tiny resolution of 800x600, and attempting to use the GPU to drive the display (using prime-select on distros like Linux Mint or Ubuntu) causes me to get stuck in the tty session until I reset prime-select back to intel. Is there anything I can do? Or am I stuck with Kepler based cards as the maximum? And additionally, what’s the most powerful card I can put in this thing if I can’t use this M4000M? Thanks, Rift

In this laptop model, if you are using a hardware SPI programmer, this does not matter.
-
Thanks for your answer! Yes I'm aware that I need the SPI programmer, I will receive one soon and I will be able to send you the dump of my BIOS. I just wanted to know if I will be able to flash the modded BIOS with the SPI even if Boot Guard is enabled (won't it brick the laptop if Boot Guard is enabled?). Thanks again!

Hi! In Lenovo ThinkPad X250, any modified bios can be flash using hardware SPI programmer only, exactly the same as described in the first post of this thread: So, for creating backup (dump) of bios you need to use hardware SPI programmer.
-
Hello and thanks for your work here! Before modding the BIOS for my X250, I would like to know if it's possible to flash a modded BIOS even if Boot Guard is active/enabled. Do you have any clues? Thanks in advance!

Got myself an Alienware X17 R2. In the manual it says you can’t upgrade anything higher than 2TB SSD or 16 RAM. I have got a 2TB SSD, but thought to upgrade with another 4TB Samsung. Also thinking to put in another 16 or 32 Ram module. Would that be possible? https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/de-de/alienware-m17-r2-laptop/alienware-m17r2-setup-specs/storage?guid=guid-05db9429-1e46-40f5-b709-7c66b3324d4e&lang=en-us

Hello, Klem. Thank you for removing the whitelist. I did everything according to your instructions, I had to install windows 10 on the hard drive. Otherwise, windows 11 Pro did not allow you to unlock the whitelist in the bios. I installed the wifi adapter, installed the drivers and everything worked. I installed windows 11 Pro back - the laptop works with the new intel ac7260 wifi adapter. Thanks again for the whitelist...

Hi! You can post here your bios backup (bios dump). To create bios backup use attached utility. Extract attached archive directly on the Desktop and run utility as Administrator (right click mouse, choice "Run as Administrator"). Utility will create archive "results" directly on the Desktop. Post here this archive "results", or upload it into any fileserver and post the link. https://www.sendspace.com/file/mxoavw
