Let us know how the game is performing on your M18x, post any questions you have regarding optimal drivers + game configuration. Members are welcomed to write guides and add them to this thread.

So far on my M18x with 6990m xfire it runs great using the 11.10 driver. Ran the game with ultra quality/2xaa/hbao and it maintains a very smooth and consistent framerate on most MP maps. Haven't ventured into SP mode yet.

Wow this thread is dead; on both forums really. I can't get a MP match for the life of me and went single player. At Ultra preset, I was getting low to mid 20's according to FRAPS. I read through the forums and it seems like some people with desktop 580SLI do max the game as well as some with a single 580. This game looks leagues ahead of anything out. To me, this is the NEW Crysis to benchmark. I am going to try to 11.2 drivers to see if I can boost my FPS. It looks like I am going to eat crow and just keep my upgrade to the 6990s as the extra shaders are no doubt being used in this game. Gonna still tweak to see what I can achieve with the 6970s and new drivers. I have not bothered testing OC yet.

Dave just to give you a subjective opinion: It runs quite a bit smoother on 6990s at the same settings as the 6970s. My FPS stayed at 60+ the entire time I played tonight. The new system is pretty silent running too, I asked my gf if the fans spun up too loud while she was studying and she said she didn't even notice them.

lol at this point im using fan control to start with windows minimized and at max lol... even at max they don't bother me.. can't be over 30-40db... its loads louder than my notebook cooler (25~db but that has 1-220mm fan). Glad to hear the 6990m works better.

Added some pics and forgot to turn on FPS overlay. My FPS never dropped below 60 during SP play so far. Dave, you said you hit as low as 20? Not sure how that happened unless it was on a level I haven't seen yet.

Brian, my problem was my own fault; I had CAP 3 installed with the 11 version III preview which I guess causes performance problems. Now I am back up to the 40s-50s at Ultra. I still think I will go through with the upgrade as 60ish sounds like a good FPS to be at. This game is an absolute marvel to look at. Unfortunately I am not enjoying matchmaking yet and am still uncertain to my view on the current lobby system through the web. Further driver support should help a bit more but I would like to enjoy the game lag free.

Hi guys. I just got my Alienware M18X and BF3 (all in 1 week :D What a week! )

Yesterday I started BF3 and got an FPS of 90 in the first SP scene (metro). I used the resolution 1900x1200 and most stuff on high. I changed the resolution to 1600xSomething and the FPS dropped to 50! So i put the resolution back to 1900x1200 and...

Still 50 fps! As well in fraps as in game (render.drawfps 1). I can not get the FPS higher then 60 on high. I tried different drivers, but I read you can not use other drivers then those from the AW website? I read the warranty would end if you use the drivers from amd.com. Weird...

My specs:

Alienware M18x Stealth Black

Intel® Core™ i7 Processor 2670QM (2.20Ghz, 6MB, 4C)

Dual 2GB GDDR5 AMD® Radeon™ HD 6990M CrossFireX™

6.144 MB 1.333 MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM [1 x 2.048 + 1 x 4.096]

500 GB Momentus XT hybride Solid State-harde schijf

What drivers are you guys using? The amd preview driver is for desktop gpu's and not for the mobile gpu's? Thanks in advance. Sorry for my bad english :)

hi guys, back. Brian Question I am having issues with my driver, I get a pop up From Battlefield 3 saying my driver i older than 11.7 could you be so kind to send me a link to download a stable driver so i can play BF3 with no pop ups? Also i called AW support asking them to updates their Driver version on their Website and I got a very arrogant Representative saying I can install newer Drivers but I be left on my own devices. Gee and you would think people in Costa Rica are happy fellows, not so much.

So install that driver and loose Brightness control? that's a big trade off, oh and nice to see you Brian. Any other older drivers past 11.6 In which we don't loose the ability of changing brightness control?

in some ways its big trade off but improved performance... but unlike modded desktop drivers these are less buggy on mobile in my runs so far... the modded desktop drivers i've tried the brightness goes back and forth in certain games for me whereas official mobile drivers and these dont for me.. but the brightness is not adjustable atleast though they are stable...

Official Drivers has been released!

ATI Catalyst

Problem is, I can't install 'm on my M18X :/ I get this message:

"AMD Catalyst mobility cannot be downloaded due to incompatible hardware/software on your computer.

Your computer does not contain a proper graphics adapter".

How about you guys?

I'm having some problems with BF3, as mentioned before. I'm not happy with the fps, and get some bf3 crashes. So i really hope the new drivers will fix this. Yet, I can't install them (see post above). I talked to Dell Support and they tell me to wait for Dell to release these drivers

Looks like this error is created by aticfx32.dll (ati driver?)

Here's a direct link from AMD, download the drivers and see whether you can install them.

Thank you very very very much! For the first time it seems the game runs as it should on this beast :Banane52:

I had another crash tho, but this time not influenced by the ati dll. So that's a BF3 problem i think. No BSOD's anymore either.

Just played for like 2.5 hours straight, my longest play streak yet. Anyway, here's some photos, I use edge detect AA for my games and BF3 is set to Ultra (2xAA). The FPS never drops below 50 even during intense fights, my GPU is set at 800/1050 and CPU at 104 BCLK:

Don't forget, if you have Vertical Sync enabled your FPS will not go over 60 FPS. I'll be getting BF3 when my m18x arrives next week, so i'm not sure if this is a setting in game or not. Check your catalyst settings to see if the default is on. With a system this powerful i would suggest trying to run the game with VSync off and Triple Buffering on. Then if you are getting screen tears or experiencing issues then turn it back on. Just a reccomendation for an OG...

Hey guys, just wanted to share something (Hope you don't mind Brian, but feel free to delete if necessary) since a lot of members here are also members over at the other forum.

For people also registered at the other forum a member has setup a 32 man server for the NBR Clan

Here are the details on it if any people that are members there would like to join in the fun. Or maybe you have a grudge against a member there, (or even me :P) , this would be a great way to take it out by capping them :P

Official NBR Battlefield 3 Clan Server Thread

More on topic, here are the settings I'm running on my R2, looks to be the same as Brians settings, though my FPS are around 40-60+ on Multiplayer. Although I have my cards undervolted and at stock clocks.

Welcome to T|I! Yes with the M18x and 6990 Xfire or 580M SLi, you can play the game comfortably using ultra settings at 1920x1080p. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I'm still having trouble with my 6990 xfire tho... I still get shocks! When I go in to Windows (alt-tab) and go back, the first 30 secs all is fine. Then it's start shocking again. If I played windowed, there is no problem either. Weird right?

I'd like too see more info on the GPU's, even if I'm not sure the problem is with the GPU's. I saw some-one post a screenshot on this forum of the Catalyst software, with temperature info etc. Where can I download that software?
