M14X start up problems

Lucid

Recommended Posts

FYI: I tried searching for this problem and couldn't find anything earth breaking to get me over it.

I received my m14x about 2 weeks ago. Now I'm thinking this is happening when I go from using the computer off battery, shutting down, then trying to start up with the battery in (May be wrong). The white line appears at the top left but the computer never goes on to boot windows. After fiddling (turning on off, with the battery in/out (boot up with battery in,,, fail... out.... fail.... in... success).

Again if this is a common problem, sorry for starting a thread over it, there should probably be a common M14X problems 'sticky' :lemo:.

On an unrelated note (that I'm not all too worried about) while browsing with firefox sometimes my display driver 'fails' and the screen goes back for a second

returning with the error message 'display driver has failed blah blah. If anyone has any input on this as well it would be much appreciated.

I'm using driver version 275.33 for NVID

EDIT: Just updated my Intel driver, I'll update my post if I get the problem again.

So it doesn't start up right when turning on from battery power after you have shut it down using the battery? Install virtual box, then ubuntu to it and reproduce it, maybee its windows. My laptop doesn't like win 7 sleep sometimes, just a glitch in wn 7.

@Lucid - Need more info to really troubleshoot. Here are some questions and things to think about.

1. What customizations have you made (software and/or hardware)?

2. Has it always done this from the date of receipt?

3. Have you completely format the hard drive and installed win7 fresh?

4. Sometimes i have issues with sleep mode in win764bit, its just not very nice sometimes but it is what it is.

5. Any other errors within windows itself?

6. Do you have a SSD? If so do you have the intel RST installed?

Good luck, StevenX

I noticed this problem the first time I used it without the battery, so maybe 2 days after I got the computer.

So far I have only updated the NVID driver, updated windows to sp1, and installed a bunch of games etc, (which run amazing ^_^).

I didn't do a fresh install of windows and no I don't have an SSD.

Besides this one thing, my m14x seems to run flawlessly which makes this even more annoying >.>

Alright guys, I just turned my computer off/on a good 30 times.

Note: When I've been booting up I've been in "balanced" power settings.

Anyways, it seems it has nothing to do with the battery (sorry =/), it would fail to start up on and off battery in no recognizable pattern based on when I shut down on last.

However, strangely enough, 10 out of 10 times I pressed the start up button and right after repeatedly spammed a key (any key, (f1,l,y...etc), it would start up. Probably just crazy luck but worth stating... At this point I don't really know what to do.

EDIT: Tested more trying to fiddle around with things. It starts every time if I spam a key....

So after calling up a tech, thinking we fixed the problem I realize what's really going on now. The problem is that I can't boot when I have too many USB slots filled. (Mouse,Keyboard,Hard Drive), With this combo is things the black screen happens, if I unplug any of them so only 2 items are in the boot will succeed. Could anyone try and let me know if they have this same problem? Should I try and get a new motherboard/m14x with my warranty? Not sure if this is actually a "Problem".
