Alienware M18x R2 heat sinks in M18x R1

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody!

Will heat sinks from Alienware M18x R2 physically fit in Alienware M18x R1?

I have 2 x AMD 6970M. I have read that heat sinks from R2 are better. I do not know which parts will be the best.

Taking this opportunity, which is better to add to M18x R1: two graphics cards AMD AMD 6970M or one 7970M?

Could anyone help me? :)

Between you and me, the heatsink performance is the same. However, if you can get the R2 heatsinks for the same price, you might as well. They provide more coverage though you will need more heat transfer material to cover the areas that were not covered initially in the previous revision.

Just did a GPU upgrade myself. Upgraded to 8970M. Got all the upgrade parts in a nice package from eurocom. They were kind enough to include the installation instructions as well. The heatsinks they recommended for R1 were 05WJ8P7 or 05G1VG for primary and 0Y48TK for the secondary one. don't know which one they sent, didn't look the code, but works nicely.

Yes, they will fit. I just did the whole hog upgrade from M18xR1 to M18xR2 with 980M's in SLI. Still waiting on safe drivers to update to more current than 353.30.

Same, i have done a lot of upgrades from 6990M's in systems to 7970M's and the 100WATT heatsink although PN is different, it physically looks identical :)
