I think that guy is faking.

That's Wesley-Alex who was permanently banned from techinferno.

If "automatically view results at 3dmark.com" is clicked then the score must be shown in the web. But it is not.

I think he is lying again.

Look at this. This is his old fake-shot of 3920xm + 680m sli 2 yrs ago.

Oh snap!!!!

One more thing.

That guy said he bought from EUROCOM.

I jus got a mail from EUROCOM

Hello.

I have been watching your Techinferno experience..

There is no 84.04.58.00.F2 vbios, or if there is I have not located it.

The current vbios available that I have are:

84.04.22.00.10

84.04.22.00.12

84.04.22.00.0A

I know from testing the 10 and 12 work in P570WM.

10 works in P15xSM and P17xSM

12 works in P37xSM.

And of course the default SM-A.

None of these work in the M18x R1.

Weirdest thing. Take a look at the feature sets for the 880m and the 980m. Even optimus is omited (along with a bunch of others)??

GeForce GTX 980M Graphics Card | GeForce

GeForce GTX 880M Dedicated Graphics for Laptops | GeForce

Now I'm wondering if the 9xx is another sign of where laptop gaming is going?

But clevo notebooks can have 980m SLI.

SLI dont have optimus.

Instead of watching/waiting, try to contact @svl7 or @Prema customers are waiting too...invest a little for a change.

Eurocom is who I have been communicating with and offered to assist with Alienware non-Optimus testing. I directed them here and to NBR. I am still waiting for them to respond to that offer.

I think reaching out to @Prema and @svl7 makes good sense. In fact, I had assumed someone had already done that. Rather than waiting for NVIDIA, they may be able to compare the vBIOS to 780M and 880M and figure out what needs to be flipped or deleted to make a vBIOS that we already have work. I cannot imagine trying to do anything meaningful without their assistance. We already know that anything we get from NVIDIA, Alienware or Clevo is going to be messed up in one way or another.

I really want this to work, too. 980M SLI is the only thing keeping me interested in laptops at this point. I don't want to go back to desktop gaming and benching if I don't have to. Almost everything available for purchase that is new seems to be an unimpressive BGA pile of dog crap. The only exception seems to be the screwed up Haswell-powered Clevos that have crappy CPU heat sinks that cause overheating like a blast furnace and don't overclock worth a damn.

I would consider buying a Eurocom Panther (P570WM) but if they are just selling out remaining stock and Clevo has formally discontinued the manufacture of it, that leaves me in a very uncomfortable spot paying $5,000 for something obsolete that may not have service parts available in a year or two. Rather than buy something that cannot be maintained, it would be a lot smarter to spend the same money building something. Even spending that on a new Area-51 would make more sense than buying a discontinued laptop.

Hey all, LTNS. Just wanted to throw in my .02. I emailed a seller that's advertising the 980m as compatible with all Optimus 17/18 AW's.

The thing is, I believe they are a Eurocom reseller or related to Eurocom in some way.

Ebay ID: upgradeyourlaptop

"we have them working in all of models that support Optimum M17x R3 R4 R5

now working on solution for M18x and 18 non-Optimus models"

Ebay link: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=121468830850&alt=web&globalID=EBAY-US&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123

Any ideas?

Hmm.. hopefully we can get results asap.

Optimus is listed under 'Features' GeForce GTX 980M | Features | GeForce

Still I think they're using a different implementation, GPU upgrades are way too popular so they messed up this one.

Very reasonable theory from @technos, not removed but changed. Meaning a BIOS upgrade is required for AW17/18 users.

M17xR3/Unlocked BIOS has these options available.

Here is my theory on that: My answer as to why it won't work in our systems? nVidia decided to remove optimus components from the vBIOS. The M18x uses a multiplexor switch to alternate between the iGPU and the dGPU. The M17x uses a muxless switch where the dGPU passes through the iGPU to drive the display. Both AMD and nVidia cards have coding in the vBIOS to handle these types of switches. If nVidia omitted that code from the vBIOS, the 980M will never work, as it will have no idea how to handle the switch. I can't believe nVidia decided to remove one of their redeeming (and very successful) features from their 980M

HDMI bypasses the LVDS or eDP connector altogether, which is why it would work.

So if Nvidia made that odd change, that means we have to wait for Dell to upgrade the AW17/18 Bios...

Yup, It looks so...still, then why Clevo laptops won't require any BIOS upgrades...? conflicting.

That is weird. When I followed your link it said so on the right of the page. Then I refreshed it and they all changed to icons, with optimus not there any more (along with it missing from the list on the left) .I was looking at the original page I posted to, I thought...

Jeez, this is confusing

And now we Alienware users really need to wait on Dell to sell those AW 18 with 980M because I do not think Dell won't bother with the Bios if they do not intend to sell those 980M GPUs.

Sigh...

Will see in a little while, I suppose. No reason to feel compelled to hurry up and do anything. My gosh, with 780M there is no reason to have any kind of sense of urgency and 980M is still new. Just let the little panty-waisted Ultrabook jockeys have some fun on the stage for a little while with their turd HQ BGA abortions. They won't get many chances to feel good about their wimpy machines. They'll get their teeth knocked out soon enough. Like Serious Sam always said, "It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye."

@LVNeptune - exactly the same people I have been communicating with and waiting to hear back on the offer to help with testing.

Hahaha, I feel you, brother Fox. I do hope Eurocom would send you those cards for testing. If I were Eurocom, I would give them for you for free. :32_002:

Hey, 680M is still an awesome mobile GPU... better than almost everything else. 680M > 780M > 980M... your GPU would be the envy of millions.

I didn't count 880M because it's defective and worthless.
