rikrik
HiThe CPU in my GX740 is a 1st gen Intel Core i5 430m: With 2.2 GHz (2.5 with Intel Booststep) it isn't that powerful.I overclock the CPU with SetFSB and it's possible to reach up to 3 GHz which is pretty nice, but as soon as it gets load, the multiplier drops from 19 to 17 or less.Is there a way to prevent the multiplier from dropping down?rik
Pierrinator
I think it's the turbo boost. Maybe try to load only one core and see if the drop happens. In any case, you can use ThrottleStop but be carefu with it.
nhantran1986
Not recommended. doubt the stock heat sink fan can support it or stable. what's the temp with 2.5Ghz always on?
noper
how about upgrading to better CPU? I just replaced the old i5 430M with i7 820QM. faster and more stable with quiet fans.
Uraz
it's much better if you just upgrade it to the latest CPUs your laptop's motherboard supports.
