natelofarrell
Hi all,My laptop came with 8GB PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM 1600 MHz Ram... I have an 8gb stick of PC3-10666 DDR3-1333 laying around --- Would it be better to run the 2x4gb of PC3-12800 or 12GB with one stick running at a slower speed... I also know DDR3L runs at lower voltage so not really sure about thatThanks
Varroa
You need a low voltage sticks for it to work. If that stick is low voltage then it might work but running two sticks of different sizes is never as ideal as running two sticks.Hi all,My laptop came with 8GB PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM 1600 MHz Ram... conscriptvirus
I'd go with 2x4gb. I dont think you'll *need* 12gb of ram. not for another couple years at least.
saryx
If you run RAM with different speeds, your computer will downgrade the RAM to the slowest speed of the slowest RAM stick you have installed. So in all honesty, you would do better running just the 8gb, at least until you have enough to buy at least one 8gb stick at 12800 so you can run 12gb at 12800...
