Skyline
I bought a generic 9.5mm caddy off of eBay and it works fine. The only downfall is that it isn't a perfect fit-to-trim on the laptop. It doesn't utilize the locking mechanism, but otherwise the drive works perfectly.
AcidPanda
In a previous post, I posted that ebay has something for the y400, and i believe the ultrabay for the y400 and y410p are going to be the same. ---------> Here <---------- Sadly they dont have it for the y500/y510pIf the caddy is the same size for the y510p, wouldn't it fit? nkjmin
In regards with the i'm pretty sure that the y500 and y510p dimensions are the same, but between y400 and y500, the y500 will be slightly larger. So i doubt they will have a good fit. it might be possible to take the face plate off and use that on a difference aftermarket caddy. AcidPanda
Yeah... my problem lies with aftermarket caddy's not properly fitting into the ultrabay slot. My last one has a 1mm gap which causes the faceplate to disconnect slightly from the caddy.

I have just recieved this y510p hdd caddy: 2nd HDD SSD Hard Drive Caddy for Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 Y500N Y510P | eBay It came together with a bezel. And it i HOT Swappable - if I boot into Windows 8.1 with it, I can remove it, replace hard drive and insert it into the ultrabay slot again.. Here are some photos of the bezel they provide together with hdd caddy: For a price of 16 dollars, its super nice! I inserted into it original 1 TB hdd which came with y510p (I use ssd inside computer mSata) and I get 100 MB/s speed even.
techmaster
Awesome! I'm placing an order now. Shame they don't include the little locking bracket as well. But at least it comes with the faceplate. I think its good not to have a bracket - it holds quite well in place and is hot swappable - so I can remove the caddy and put it back without windows restart. networkjedi
I bought one of those off ebay, very similar to the one you listed only with the locking bar. Front wouldn't stay on, ended up just super glueing the front back on and it's been fine since.
AndyS
Is it just me but Lenovo support for home use laptops is poor at best. Have a Thinkpad at work support by IT and upgrades are no problem.
AndyS
Seems like the Y500 was short lived. Not being sold by Lenovo directly anymore!
alkmind
Is there a Removable Battery to Ultrabay for 510p?
xlimelight
Nope pretty sure that's not possible since ultrabay for 510p only have a SATA slot that can only read data and power fan.
LiverpoolsNo9
I got my caddy from hddcaddy.com and it only took a few minutes to install.....quite pleased with it, just wish it had come with the front bezel, so I didn't have to take the one off the optical drive.
