[Guide] Modding Nvidia OEM INF Files

J95

Recommended Posts

Hi J95,

Thanks for providing the details on modifying the .ini file. The problem I'm having is that the screen constantly blinking like a strobe light after the install and rebooting to the desktop.

Device ID: PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_11A0&SUBSYS_05511028&REV_A1

M17xR4 / Win 7 64bit / GTX 680M

However, I am trying to install the 310.90 mobile driver from nvidia's website and there is no file that is "nvdmi.ini" in the "Display.Driver" folder.

There's just a "nvdm.ini" file. Also, all the codes that I need to change are all there; seems I don't need to change anything.

What am I doing wrong / not doing that is causing the screen blinking after driver install?

i HAD IT WORKING!

now i tried to update my nvidia driver from 355.60 up to 358.91. i had modded inf and i can't remember the steps very well.. i ended screwing my drivers and im driverless now :(

my hardware ID is:

PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_119F&SUBSYS_04901028&REV_A1

the file i have is for 780m (notebook) v 358.91 for windows 10

358.91-notebook-win10-64bit-international-whql.exe

These were the data for replacing in the file: nv_dispi.inf

Data added:

< Search and paste under >

[strings]

NVIDIA_DEV.119E = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M"

NVIDIA_DEV.119F = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M"

< Search and paste under>

Ntamd64

%NVIDIA_DEV.119F% = Section002, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_119F

Driver is recognized but when installing i get Driver Failed.

It's annoying to get issues when trying to update nvidia 780m drivers on my Alienware R3 MX17 for Windows 10.

Run DDU "Clean & Shutdown" try different drivers, supported configuration so INF modding is not required. Try disabling IGP (HD4000)...if the issue still persists; report it here [url]https://forums.geforce.com/default/board/33/geforce-drivers/[/url] proper thread & main driver thread.

Yeah actually when i got to F8 activated (no idea why windows didn't let this option available by default) and login underDisable Driver Signature Enforcement it worked.

the codes i used are for file nv_dispi.inf:

Hardware ID: PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_119F&SUBSYS_04901028&REV_A1

< Search > [strings]

< Paste > NVIDIA_DEV.119F = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M"

< Search > NTamd64.10.0

< Paste > %NVIDIA_DEV.119F% = Section002, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_119F

Done. updated and running; no broken screen.

Thanks :)

@J95 I have installed a 980M in my Dell Precision M6800. I am reading through your guides and it seems to mention editing the nv_dispi.inf instead of the nvdmi.inf?

I was trying to edit the file from GeForce 359.06 WHQL and it seemed quite different to the instructions I found from you. I am using Optimus as well.

I also read about:

- DDU "Clean & Shutdown"

- Disable driver signing

I suppose I have to do the above when installing the driver using the modded inf?

Sorry this is my first time attempting this and I am getting a bit confused here.

Anyway here are my Hardware IDs.

PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D7&SUBSYS_15CD1028&REV_A1
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D7&SUBSYS_15CD1028
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13D7&CC_030000

@J95

Update 1: I was updating the wrong nvdmi.inf, no wonder the setup couldn't find any compatible card! My bad!

After following the steps again, the driver got installed. However, upon booting up, all I got was three screens with a black background and mouse cursor. Nothing else... No login screen, really nothing!

I was not able to get into safe mode, as I have forgotten to prepare a Win8.1 USB stick, to remove the driver and attempt another install.

Update 2: I got Win10 installed and proceeded with the same steps. However, the only difference this time round is the driver I have used. I used Mr. Fox's GeForce 345.20 Desktop Driver Mod for Alienware and Clevo Mobile GPUs from NBR. It worked before for me in Win8.1 and in the thread someone have tested it out on Win10 and it worked.

I am glad to say it worked for me too. Will try out the newer drivers when I get the time and might try Mr. Fox's method.

I've modded a few different versions of the drivers and was wondering if there was something special to edit to make the drivers PEG instead of Optimus as the drivers always work that I modify. All I change is the subset info though and it installs and works correctly. I even delete the intel graphics and make the 980m dedicated only which sticks after a reboot.

You will need to flash A12 unlocked BIOS. BIOS settings: disable IGP (Intel HD3000) and set display to PEG.

After setting display to PEG HWID 04BA  will change to 0490.

Replace 11A0 (680M) with 11A1 (670MX) and 057B with 0490

cmd (Admin) Win10/8.1 'F8' Boot options 'Safe Mode' & 'Disable driver Signing'

bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy

  -> reboot -> F8 -> Safe Mode -> Run DDU -> reboot -> F8  select 'Disable Driver Signature Enforcement' -> Install drivers.

  • Extract driver package using 7-Zip -> Display.Driver folder -> open nvdmi.inf (notepad) CTRL+H -> Find What: 057B Replace With: 0490  -> Hit 'Replace All'
