vahnx
Has anyone else encountered ghosting (image retention) on a retina macbook pro? It wasn't bad at first but soon after I had the thing for over a year I started noticing if I'm on a page for more than 5 minutes like watching a Youtube video non-full screen, it will burn in the window frame and text for a good 30 seconds or so. If I open Text Edit I can clearly see YouTube burned in. I was thinking of sending it back but it's out of warranty and I don't have applecare. rnlddbr
I have had my screen replaced by Apple. They use Samsung and LG displays. The problem only occurs the LG display they use for the rMBP. The Samsung screen is a bit more yellow-ishIf you want to know what screen you have use this command line in Terminal:ioreg -lw0 | grep "EDID" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -rIt will return:????????!xo??UL?% PT?@?4p0 6K??Color LCD ?LSN154YL01001 DLM249602SDF49HBJ ????????!xo??UL?% PT?@?4p0 6K??Color LCDLSN154YL01001 = a Samsung display
Quackers
My mid 2012 rMBP (15") is just starting to show these symptoms. It's a LG first generation screen so this behaviour was expected. I'll get around to having it changed at some time.
jonmorris04
Apple will tell you that this behavior is to be expected. I've replaced screens for the same person over 5 times for this and it never went away. The display will all ghost, some worse than others. cosbykid
Yeah, I initially owned a retina macbook pro and did not experience any ghosting.
landonepps
Sorry for the necro, but in case anyone still has this issue, my rMBP came with the LG display and I was able to get it replaced for free by taking it in to an Apple store. They run something similar to Retina MBP (rMBP) image-retention test on it and will replace it as long as it is still under warranty. Ellepops
Adding into this, mine was 10 months out of warranty and a call to corporate was al it took to strong-arm them into replacing it.
