managerman
Delidded my 4770k and temps dropped around 20C. Put in under water and I'm able to hit 5.0Ghz... Here is how I delidded.. -M
Khenglish
I like the fearless delidding approach! I'd probably go with heatgun + straight edge razor though. So you just left the IHS off right? You did not redo the TIM and put it back on?
Founder Brian Posted August 4, 2013 Founder Share Posted August 4, 2013 I like that brute force approach, its something I'd probably do too.

Xonar
You are very lucky. My 4770k lidded cannot mantain stability at anything over 4.5GHZ (Even with VCCIN @ 2.0-2.1V and VCore @ 1.4V+). At 1.4V I'm only hitting 80*C, so IMO it's stupid to even think about the possibility of higher clocks because it'd require an insane voltage bump for 100-200mhz gain. Xonar
Yeah mine does 4.5Ghz @ 1.3V.
Estens
Vice method is in my opinion much easier and faster then using a razor. My 4770k does 4.6ghz at 1.32v, so not the best chip
yanez
My 4770k does 4.5 1.32vcore for more i need 1.4+vcore... bad chip i guess but it still rocks with gtx780 )
Founder StamatisX Posted December 16, 2013 Founder Share Posted December 16, 2013 Mine can't go pass Prime95's large FFTs with anything more than 4.1Ghz... really bad chip...
Moderator angerthosenear Posted December 16, 2013 Moderator Share Posted December 16, 2013 For those that delidded, do you run cooler on die or reapply the IHS?---This is turning into 4770k owners lounge ;D

Guest
Man, sorry to hear that StamatisX.- - - Updated - - -Delidded my 4770k and temps dropped around 20C. Put in under water and I'm able to hit 5.0Ghz...-MThat's good for 1.488V. Are you using static or dynamic Core Voltage, and are your FIVR regulators disabled? Will it hold a solid 5.0GHz under sustained 100% load or does it fluctuate? What kind of wPrime 32M and 1024M results are you seeing? Sorry for so many questions... yours is the first Haswell CPU I have seen that actually looks like it might be working as well as an Ivy Bridge-E or Sandy Bridge CPU. You definitely did a lot better in the silicon lottery than most Haswell adopters have. Congrats.
blissid
Lucky! I delidded and use CLP on my core, dropped my temps by 23c, but was only able to hit 4.6ghz from the 4.5ghz i had pre-delid. I didn't get too lucky on my silicon lottery, takes me 1.410bios (1.44actual) for 4.6... ekkkk Luckily my temps during avx load doesn't pass 83c, using a thermaltake water 3.0 extreme. icebox3d
I got to 4.4Ghz and idle around 35 40 with my tops being 55 roughly with my 4770K not delidded
xill
Mine can't go past 4.4Ghz on 1.3vcore, basically not one of the good ones.
314314314
This reminds me of the good old days with i7 920. Easily overclocked from 2.66GHz to 4.5GHz, simply with a decent air cooler and core voltage around 1.4v.
clbraver
I have my 4770k @ 5.0Ghz and temps around 30C with water cooling.
Sagath
I have my 4770k @ 5.0Ghz and temps around 30C with water cooling. Then you have a beyond godly chip that some world record OCers would LOVE to get their hands on.How about some screen shots?
svl7
How about a CPU-Z verification link and some pics?
cuethenoise
I had heard the tim in the 4 series was bad, but wow 5 ghz just by removing the cover and water. That is pretty impressive! I was debating on upgrading my 2500k, but this may push me over the edge...
AESdecryption
How about a CPU-Z verification link and some pics? I don't think he'll answer, most of new members on this forum don't revisit.
5ourc3
Mine can't go pass Prime95's large FFTs with anything more than 4.1Ghz... really bad chip...jep same for me even @ 1.3 no chance to get pass 4.2ghz and the temps are not the problem
jtoman
Champion to delidding!!! Delidding is really the only way to go. I've personally delided over 100 cpu's thus far and its crazy hoow much it helps every single one of thos cpus except for a few which are just bad silicon.
