m17x r3 - 660m drivers won't install

Recommended Posts

Hello I have a m17x r3 that I got as is from someone. The service tag says it had a 580m and 120hz 3d display. I installed win7 and I can't get any Nvidia drivers to work. I took the GPU out to see what it was and based off the GPU # it looks to be a 660m. The previous owner also gave me a 880m on the side which makes the system beep I believe 6 times. I did flash a12 unlocked but what else do I need to do to get either the 660m drivers installed or the 880m going? I don't care which to use the 660m is in already I just want to be able to install drivers :)

You got a rare one with that 120hz panel as that is typically edp if my recollection is correct so it could potentially use a more modern card but anyway have you considered Win10 as I've experienced much better driver compatibility across multiple generations of Alienware laptops when it comes to mxm upgrades.

Edit: Almost forgot nvclearinstall does a pretty good job at getting ngreedia drivers to install unsupported configurations.
