Also, from what I've read on other forums, the i7-3610qm even at stock settings should have absolutely no problem with the 7970M. I used to have the P150EM with GTX 680M, and everything ran smoothly, even when the GPU was highly overclocked via a vbios. The i7-3610qm shouldn't be a bottleneck in your system in any way,

What you can do with that cpu is allowing the turbo "phase" to be longer. You have to work with the max tdp but it means that your cpu will be more hot before the turbo stop for cooling. It isn't really an oc but you can gain something in particular circumstance. But can I ask why do want to oc your cpu because it's a good cpu and it's not restrictive for the 7970m.

3610qm can only have its reference clock overclocked I believe. You might be able to squeeze ~+5% out of it.

All other settings such as multipliers are locked.

Is it difficult to overclock with this method on a laptop?

Intel has intergrated it's own overclocking, where it oc's when needed. No need for further OC-ing either, considering games, 3610qm is a god

for gaming. Your graphics card, for voltage unlock, needs a bios mod. You need to research where to get that mod, and flash the bios(with a prepped usb)

Many games only run on one or two cores, so overclocking the CPU can definitely give you more performance in gaming. Especially in games like Skyrim that tend to be CPU limited.
