Yeah, sure, it's at the end of the last page.

No problem!

I use the latest 3DMark because once I used 3DMark06 and it couldn't display the score because my "graphic card" (which is the iGPU) can't be registered. So, the scores:

With 2x4GB hynix 1600MHz CL11: Intel HD Graphics 4000 Mobile video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3820QM Processor,Hewlett-Packard 17DF

With 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance 1866MHz CL10: Intel HD Graphics 4000 Mobile video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3820QM Processor,Hewlett-Packard 17DF

Although 3DMark scores always fluctuate a tad bit, the results tell me that the Physics scores are a little better with Vengeance RAM and the Graphic scores are a little better with hynix RAM. That would be against my expectation but I don't know if that means something.

Hmm that sounds very strange, I've made 3Dmarks with my HD4000 before. So you can't scores from 06 and 11?

I'd be interesting to see how the ram would work together with an eGPU =)

The Vengeance result doesn't seem to be seeing the CPU engage the turbo. Would be a good reason why you're seeing a significant decrease in the physics result : 7990 -> 6693 (-16.2%). Suggest re-do the Vengeance test.

Or it could be like @Aikimox mentioned, that the memory actually might down clock to 1333MHz?

Is there a sure way to check this?

You're right and I didn't notice that before. It's weird because I used the same power options setting (HP Optimized) for the two tests.

This is the new score I got after changing the power setting to high performance: Intel HD Graphics 4000 Mobile video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3820QM Processor,Hewlett-Packard 17DF

The cores were in full force now.

I dont' think so because it shows that the RAM frequency to be 933MHz.

I found out why the turbo wasn't engaged: it's because the turbo is disabled after resuming from sleep or after going back to AC after using the battery!

It's like the system can't recognize the current state it's in after a state change. Could you guys please check and report how your system behave?

I took the plunge and upgraded my CPU. Ended up getting an i7 3632qm. The main deciding factor was cost. The 3632qm was only about $160, while 37xx and above were double the cost. Guess I could've gone with the 3630, but I think the 3632 will work fine for me...for now. Below is the VID table.

Hey krazyazy, could you please check your turbo mode? Put your laptop into sleep mode and check if the turbo works after waking up. I'd be very grateful!

BTW congratulations for the upgrade! At first, I was thinking about buying the same CPU but at the end I end up with a 240€ 3820QM....

Thanks! I did try sleeping and waking up the 2570. No issues with the turbo mode. Working exactly as it should.

Mine doesn't work after waking up or going back to AC after using the battery :(

At first I thought it's because the new installed 1866MHz Vengeance RAMs but turns out that even with the factory RAMs, it still behaves the same :(

Maybe it's something with the 37xx or 38xx quad cores? Hopefully someone else will test.

Gotta ask though...power options set correctly? Updated BIOS? That's all I can think of at the moment.

Why does it say in Progress for some of the pictures ?

Introduction

- Just convenient!

Ever since I installed my SSD raid my original HDD has just been laying around collecting dust.

I like the thought of being able too boot a secondary OS from the hard drive w/o messing with my raid config,

Personally there are a couple of applications that immediately comes to mind:

 • Secondary boot option: For a while I really wanted to test out Win8.1, maybe and even OSX,
 • Pretty fast file transfers: Look at the results
 • The notoriously large steam folder?

This is where I was suppose to have the pros and cons, but I have no cons after I found the little 'USB 3.0 to eSATA adapter', which solved the lack of USB compatibility.

Instructions

What do I need?

Installation

 1. Remove the USB-interface completely from the enclosure (leaving an open end)
 2. Connect the eSATA cable to HDD
 3. Wrap each short end of the HDD with a cut out stripe of bubble wrap and secure it tight with electrical tape
 4. Now the HDD should fit real snugly into the enclosure (should be a little struggle)
 5. Thats it!
 6. IDEA: By carving hole for the eSATA cable in the unused USB face plate you can make this even nicer!

Results

The enclosure:

eSATA benchmark: AS SSD & CrystalDiskMark

USB 3.0 benchmark: AS SSD & CrystalDiskMark

in progress

Interrupted boot: You can see that our system is capable of eSATA boot

ahh ok, BTW did you test 12V on this laptop, does it support 12V out of eSATA port ?

Hi Compy.

Those pictures will come when I get my thump out of my a*s and make a win8-install in my HDD :)

Also my eSATA->USB adapter was somehow DOA so I'm currently waiting for a new one, therefore no USB3.0 bench atm.

Hello,

How to verify if 2570p does have eSATAp 5v or 12v ? did any one tried that ?

Regards

I'd say both 12v and 5v, according to this source.

It's USB 3.0 spec 5V. Can see for yourself by searching "CN2025" in the 2560P schematic. Only difference with 2560P is it's eSATAp port is USB 2.0 spec. Nobody has leaked a 2570P schematic as yet so it's the next best thing.

These days I found CPU webstores to replace 3610qm and took reference of Tech Inferno Fan's CPU Benchmark. 3740qm, 3820qm and 3840qm benchmark were already existed, so I decided to try the 3920xm. 3920xm frequency is closed to 3840qm, but 3920xm TDP is up to 55w, and 3920xm es is 100rmb($16) more expensive than 3840qm es in our country. I spent 3610qm + 600rmb($96) to exchange 3920xm es, but now i think i made a wrong decision. I will share the throttlestop test between 3610qm and 3920xm. i7-3610QM SR0MV i7-3920XM QC22 ES

First test
CPU TDP Multiplier X12 X23 X24 X25 X26 X27 X28 X29 X30 X31 X32
3610QM (SR0MV) 35W VID (V) TDP (W) 0.8756 10.4 0.9607 19.8 0.9657 21.0 0.9907 22.5 1.0157 24.2 1.0358 26.0 1.0558 28.2 1.0808 30.3 1.1108 33.0 1.1409 35.8 NC
3920XM (QC22 ES) 55W VID (V) TDP (W) 0.8606 14.2 0.8706 21.8 0.8806 23.1 0.8906 24.5 0.9056 26.0 0.9207 27.6 0.9357 29.4 NC NC NC 1.0107 38.1
When 3920xm set multipier to x29-31, it will get to x32, I'm not sure if it is the es version caused. Maybe the power consumption limited effected the multipier, 4 cores can not up to 33.

Second test

use wprime32 caculate 1024M time use power instrument to test the whole laptop power consumption(disable wifi, 100% battery)

the cache benchmark between OC 3840qm(from other site) and 3920xm(up to x36)

Battery test Base on the system default setting, play BDMV with battery, 3610qm may reach 2.5 hours, 3920xm just 2 hours. After use throttlestop limited to x12, 3920xm also reach 2.5 hours, no lag on playing BDMV.

Upon the power consumption data, i think 3920xm at high frequency get more efficiency than at low frequency, and it is no need for 12 inch laptop, because the TDP is too hight and the power limited perfomance.

@pandaleo, nice investigative work that I've added to the i7-quad TDP results. It's a shame that your i7-3610QM to i7-3920XM ES only netted you an extra 100Mhz.

Which begs the question: why isn't your 55W i7-3920XM (ES) is also being limited to the same 45W that i7-36xxQM, i7-37xxQM and i7-38xxQM cpus see rather than 55W. Can you take a screenshot of the Throttlestop TPL screen like shown below? Is it because it's an ES CPU and also runs at 45W? FYI: While I could adjust those settings in Throttlestop they had no effect with my i7-3740QM - I've always been TDP limited to < 45W.

Also, what is your system spec and list of mods? I'd like to add you to the table on the first post. Consider adding those details to your sig.
