Hi svl7 !

I have a Y580 with the bios V8.01 which I want to unlock. However when I try to do the backup I get this:

Intel ® Flash Programming Tool. Version: 8.0.10.1464

Copyright © 2007 - 2012, Intel Corporation. All rights reserved.

Platform: Intel® HM76 Express Chipset

Reading HSFSTS register... Flash Descriptor: Valid

--- Flash Devices Found ---

W25Q32BV ID:0xEF4016 Size: 4096KB (32768Kb)

EN25QH16 ID:0x1C7015 Size: 2048KB (16384Kb)

Error 104: The 2 SPI flash devices do not have compatible command sets.

And when I change the fparts.txt I get this:

Intel ® Flash Programming Tool. Version: 8.0.10.1464

Copyright © 2007 - 2012, Intel Corporation. All rights reserved.

Platform: Intel® HM76 Express Chipset

Reading HSFSTS register... Flash Descriptor: Valid

--- Flash Devices Found ---

W25Q32BV ID:0xEF4016 Size: 4096KB (32768Kb)

EN25QH16 ID:0x1C7015 Size: 2048KB (16384Kb)

Error 104: The 2 SPI flash devices do not have compatible command sets.

I tried to do the backup with another program, however when I try to flash the BIOS on DOS mode I get the exact same error. I don't know what else I could do to solve this issue.

If anyone know something that would help me I would appreciate if you post it here.

Thanks.

Okay, so I've done a bit of experimentation. This is getting me .. Well, somewhere.

Before, with other file names, it just endlessly searched on the USB stick. Now, the searching seems to stop. But then no further reading occurs. All power is cut to the USB stick, it's not even in it's idle state.

The filename I have attempted is QIWY4.BIN. I'm going to let it sit here for a while and see what happens. Maybe it loaded the file into memory, and it's working from there instead.

Edit: Success! .. Sort of! The computer automatically turns off after about a minute, implying that the flash was successful. However, my screen simply remains blank when I turn it back on. Not even the backlight turns on. The keyboard still lights up, as it did before. Not sure what to do here, perhaps my BIOS backup was also corrupted.

Edit Edit: The amount of ram in the machine seems to have something to do with the flashing procedure, but I'm not sure. When only one stick of 4 GB ram is in there rather than two, the computer finds the file, flashes, and restarts (Presumably). But when both are in, it just endlessly searches again.

Edit 3x combo: Perhaps the backup was not a full backup, as I've been hearing.

Hi. I've got LEnovo Y580 with 2.07 bios. I bought the laptop with i3-3120M and later changed the CPU myself to i7-3630QM. After BIOS reset the Intel Turbo Boost has begun to work (CPU didn't use Turbo frequencies without the bios reset). But later I've read that Y580 doesn't use Turbo when gaming with the discrete graphics (660M). Does this bios mod ulocks the function to unlock turbo freqs while gaming with nVidia GPU?

Hello guys!

I somehow bricked my bios. Here how I installed it:

Made a backup, fix a Lenovo Y580 - Y480 BIOS v8.01 (5DCN90WW) - Mod with a tool, put all the files one stick (with fixed fparts) and succesfully flashed my bios.

So when I turn on my computer there was a black display, no sound and no other signs, that OS was booted.

I tried recovery BIOS with fn+b + QIWY3(4).bin file, but it seems the flash stick haven't been accessed ( it doesnt blinks ), I also tried to format for fat16 but no luck, the system still dont see and dont access it.

Is there anybody who successful recovery their bios? (i have a y580 with windows 8 preinstalled version)

Sorry for my engrish :D

Doeas this unlocked BIOS for the Y580 allows its CPU (i7) to use Turbo Boost frequencies while gaming with the deticated nVidia GPU? Because now my i7 doesn't use Turbo at all while gaming, so it stay at max 2.4 GHz while gaming and it should be at 3.2-3.4 GHz.

Still would very much appreciate some input on my situation. QIWY4.BIN does flash. But it, for whatever reason, does not erase the settings that I had prior. The very same setting that is rendering my computer unbootable. Definitely no POST. All I have to work with is the Insyde BIOS recovery.

Hello All,

I'm new to all the stuff, but I've been learning a LOT reading all the posts (I'm only up to page 33)...

I bought my Y580 quite some time ago and have made a couple changes along the way.

It originally came with the 32GB msata and the 1TB standard drive (Rapid Drive) running the "39" BIOS.

I swapped the 32GB msata out for a 256GB Crucial msata and removed Rapid Drive.

I loaded Windows 7 Professional 64bit from scratch onto the Crucial and use the 1TB for all non-active storage. (my battery-life increased slightly too)

Recently I got tired of the crappy wifi performance (constant dropping) and read that updating to the latest BIOS (to the "40" from the Lenovo site) would help, so I did...

That was a HUGE mistake!

Once I clicked the button to Update my machine was useless... It would not boot off any internal drive :(

I tried "Repairing" using the repair disc, "Recovering" (from a 6-month old backup), installing a new Windows 7 and then reformatting and then installing a fresh Windows 7. I even re-formatted one of my partitions on the 1TB drive and tried installing Windows 7 there...

Even with all of that it still wouldn't boot :(

I took the machine to my (not so) local repair guy, who confirmed that it was toast, but then he took both my msata and 1TB drives out, and plugged in another drive with Windows 8 on it.

It booted like there was nothing wrong!

And better yet, it's been running fine (although with the same crappy wifi) since :)

So...

If you crashed your machine like I did (I assume it must be pretty common), I suggest finding another standard drive with Windows 8 on it, and seeing if it does anything...

And to add to my previous post (I do need 5 before I can download)...

The reason I'm here is because of that crappy wifi, so I'm planning on swapping out the original N-2200 for something a little more robust.

I'm looking at the N-6205, 6235, 6250 or the 6300, but I'm not really sure what I'm going to be able to find here in Hanoi, Vietnam :(

Any suggestions for best results running the i7-3610QM with the setup mentioned above?

I just flashed my 2.07 BIOS using the "[Y580][Y480]-'unlocked_BIOS'_660mGHzEdition_WhitelistMod".

I had to edit the platform.ini since it was the same version, but it was simple to do.

Flashing took a couple minutes (still just 3 clicks of the mouse!), but there were no problems at all, and everything seems to be working exactly as it was before.

I'll be swapping out the wifi card as soon as I can find/order one here in Hanoi.

A HUGE "Thank You" to svl7 (and any others that assist in this), and as soon as I get the new card in I will be sponsoring your next drink! :)

I don't think this has been covered so...

I'm looking at the Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 and the Intel® Centrino n 6300...

The n 6300 has 3 antenna, which SHOULD give me better reception, but the AC 7260 would give me access to the ac band (not that it exists anywhere near me yet)...

My question to you is... If I get the AC 7260, which has Bluetooth, is it possible, and will it be better, to uninstall/disable the Broadcom and use it from the AC 7260?

This is actually my system.

I have checks and packing from it.

Explain how I blocked the BIOS.

bought the ssd.

and because I have windows 8 I went to the service center was moved to a system on the ssd.

come to me specialist looked and said that can't throw the system can only try to activate windows 7 which I have established themselves but was not licensed. I activate it and said amount. but she was not given the serial number is not any information that is really the licensing system. In connection with suspicion I refused the services. I was in a hurry to give him money that he used to go and we parted. not checking the laptop itself.

when again sat down at the laptop and updated system.

display a message that the operating system is not genuine. go into the BIOS worth password. addressed to a representative who served me and he demanded that he threw the money into the account (for me that he established a licensing system). and after this will be the password. then I looked at their website and it was very similar to the official website of LENOVO and realized that they are not an official service center.

Here's the situation.

I ask for forgiveness for broken English.

wrote a message through the online translator.

Because the English language has not yet learned.

Thank you.

Give your laptop Lenovo Y580 i7-3630QM, GTX 660M, screen 1920-1080, OCZ-NOCTI (111 GB)

ST1000LM024 HN-M101MBB (931 GB)

BIOS 5DCN89WW(V8.00)

Hoping that will help to remove the password update BIOS but winows throws an error and writes that I have the latest version of the BIOS.

I have in front of this laptop was SONY FZ31-ER so there's all the easier - you take off the battery on the motherboard and BIOS reset. And with Lenovo Y580 even a service center can not only help the motherboard replacement. which is worth more than half a laptop.

If You have other options on how to remove the password, please advise

Thank you
